What consequences, in your opinion, should Mair face for his actions?

My point isn't some harsh criticism of the Sabres drafting, it is a note that Buffalo needs to make sure they are scouting forwards better because they don't have enough in the pipeline. Personally I would bet money that after the 2022 draft and 2023 where they took 4 forwards with 1st round picks, Adams and the braintrust down there were like "oh we need RHD! We better draft some" and have let that bias pervade their process. They probably haven't even realized it yet. Keep in mind this is not a criticism of drafting Mrtka this past year, he's a good pick with a lot of potential.

BPA is a myth, truthfully. And the Sabres certainly are not getting the best players available. Other teams routinely out-draft them and have far better success because of it. That's neither here nor there. In the first 4 rounds of the last 3 drafts, Buffalo has selected: 7 defenders 6 forwards 1 goalie In the top 2 rounds the last 3 drafts Buffalo has selected: 3 D and 3 F Some might look at that and say "well that seems balanced" and sure except there are 12 forward spots and only 6 Defense spots. On top of that you are talking about a team that has Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power. So there are only 4 defense spots. The Sabres have and continue to overdraft Defense including 5 RHD in the last 3 drafts in the first 3 rounds.

This post confuses me. We already know that A. Dahlin will start on the right side of the top pairing and B. That Byram will be his linemate. They literally don't need a new rhd on every line or I guess you dislike Kesselring and Timmins. They are new and better defensively than the players they replaced. The D lacks experience, I'll agree there.

I'd give him another year in junior and then ahl or find an ncaa team. Then 2 years there. Mrtka as others have noted is going for his class with a June bday. He honestly might be better than Owen Power in the end. Sabres need to prioritize forward for a couple of drafts. Their forward prospect list is not great and it keeps getting weaker.

I don't worry much about Benson or Kesselring.

Leinonen started. Tbh, I expect more from Mrtka. There's a few elements of his game I thought really shown late last season. I like Mrtka more as things go on.

Östlund, Rosen, and Novikov each have an A Novikov - Mrtka is a defense pairing... God help opposing forwards.

Owen Power doesn't play hockey like Ristolainen. That's a bad comp, imo.

If they had a combined 1500 games more experience, I'd be inclined to agree. They don't though. They are 1,000 games less experienced than the 31st place team.

Finally watched this... when Benson jumps with all that weight, my word his legs are trees. Glad he said he needs more burst. Fun video, really cool look into his life and seeing him with his family was great. Offered Grandma, mom, grandpa donuts in that order, he gets it.

I think Power can be a good defender in the NHL, but I'm not convinced plays the game the way I want. Not sure if that distinction makes sense but I'm not saying he needs to run ppl or hit everything. He plays passive, which was my initial impression of Mrtka until I got to see more of him. Power let's players come into his orbit, he doesn't manipulate much defensively. There's no, "attack on defense" and he's basically the opposite of Benson who very much attacks opposing players. On Mrtka, I've seen more and more of him attacking in the D zone. He shuts plays down by his own will as opposite which is sitting in your lane waiting for the forward to come into the space you want to defend.

I didn't even put power top 5 in my 2021 rankings.

He was the first pick in the draft because covid, awful draft, and nhl teams are stupid. Anyone tall who can skates jumps up draft boards.
