A key component for a 3rd line player is that you can use them on the PK or PP just like a key component to making the 53 man roster is being useful on special teams. Same concept but Adams decided to build a roster that didn't make any sense and this was the result. He needs to grow up quick because the only excuses left are incompetence.

Let's think about the wingers we have. Benson, Tuch, JJP, Quinn, Greenway, Skinner. Are any of them worse than Olofsson? The answer is no and that fills out the top 9 wing slots. You need an upgrade for VO, someone that makes it easier to bench anyone of Skinner, JJP, Quinn, Greenway, or Tuch. Don't ever bench Benson, he is a pitbull.

If you want to make the playoffs, the Sabres can't have Olofsson on their team. He has been surpassed by JJP, Benson, Greenway, and I would bet Savoie. They need a veteran player in that spot who brings a lot more grit.
