I have to thank the Pegulas for making my evenings far more productive than they used to be.

No. Their irrelevance started before I started posting on message boards. You guys are a habit. As I’ve mentioned a couple of times already, my son has commented that I am more interested in the off ice than the on ice. 12 years is a long time to cement that behavior. We’ll see.

For most of the last era I told myself that I would become a fervent fan again when the team became relevant again. I don’t know. I was a fervent Bills fan until about the 6-7 yr mark of irrelevance. They have been a top team for what, 4 seasons now? I don’t make a point of staying up to watch the prime time games. It’s not important to me anymore. Not even the ones that are truly meaningful. I check the score first thing in the morning. So, I don’t know. I don’t know if it grows back, or if reprioritizing is long term. I suspect the latter.

By then the team will need to replace all the mid career guys like Dahlin when they lose their love for the game.

Overhyped

Nope. Its over. It was over before Christmas. We’re at the halfway point now. It’s definitely over after the Kraken game. There is no wishing and hoping from here. The pace they’d need is nearly historic, with no prior indication they have it in them.

Oof.

The only way I am trading Greenway is if I am upgrading the exact need in the forward group. This team is built lopsided. Greenway is the only real heavy player in the lineup right now. There are a couple with the physical assets to do it, but the personality is lacking. Greenway does it, does it well, and is comfortable with doing it. If we move Greenway without directly replacing it our forward group will be negatively affected. If the GM senses that he won’t resign when his contract ends, the right move for this team is to trade him IN THE OFFSEASON when we have the opportunity to tweak the forward group to better balance it.

By the end of the first half, we can: 1. Reasonably ascertain that we corrected too late for a playoff spot. and 2. Judge results that have already been witnessed. Neither of the two comments I was responding to had the benefit of actual data, or even historical perspective.

Let’s not hand out second half of the season awards yet.
