Ugh. Horrible news. Was so hoping we’d here another remission report.

Would you be happy if Hall was acquired by the Sabres?
Weave replied to SabresFanInRochester's topic in The Aud Club
Focusing on this part, if our timeline is not now, why? Jack is now in his mid 20s. I’ll want to hear a good justification for why now isn’t the time to go for it. -
The problem is, as much as we want analytics to make it so, separating Trouba from Pouliot is not a science, and no team can do it consistently over the long haul. Expecting this team, this draft, with the upheaval this scouting department has had, to pick the Trouba this year is, well, optimistic.

Related to Joe Finley?

Draft picks are lottery tickets. At 8 it isn’t much more than a coin flip that the player hits the 100 NHL games threshold. I agree that one of us needs to adjust out expectations. I’m pretty good with what I expect out of a draft pick. It’s why my excitement is quite tempered over the draft.

Matt Ellis to be Named Director of Player Development
Weave replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Agree with all of this, including the Botterill reference. His hiring was pretty well praised at the time. He pushed the right buttons. I'd love to know where it went wrong. Unlike most, I think alot of it may not have been of his doing. But the GM takes the bullet. -
There is alot of 2nd line talent at #8 overall. And a fair number of busts as well. There is no shame in a safe pick at 8 for a team with no prospect pool to speak of.

Matt Ellis to be Named Director of Player Development

I don't think this is correct. The sentiment being displayed in here is that the guy being promoted is another OJT guy. Think of a team with a good player development record. Had the Pegulas hired someone involved in the player development program of one of the teams with a good reputation for developing their players there would have been significant praise being handed down. And rightfully so as it would have indicated that the team went looking for someone with experience in a successful developmental organization. Instead, we get Matt Ellis. Maybe he's an excellent choice for the role, but at face value he looks more like someone they are comfortable with as opposed to someone with a proven successful background. Given where this team has been, and where it is currently, I know what I wanted to see here. -
I know too much about this now.

Matt Ellis to be Named Director of Player Development

He’s a skeptic, not a troll. If the Pegulas ever start getting decisions right I think you’ll see the difference. PA had been more right than wrong through the last decade. And the diversity of opinion is why I keep coming back. Yup. The guy in charge of player development is at the mercy of the guys that get drafted. -
Agree with the general sentiment here. A mentor for a young, future elite defenseman is highly valuable. I'm in favor of the concept. Wish Jack had the same.

I guess I am an old man. I have no idea what flossing is. If the gif you posted is representative of flossing, WTF did that name come from?
-
Apparently I am still missing something. That's what happens when you haven't seen a live game in almost a decade.

This comment fits here as well I think. This isn’t an inspiring hire. It’s also not really indicative of anything else, positive or negative Either. Good luck, Seth. The fans need it. Skepticism seems understandable to me given our past history with these types of hires. We’ve certainly dipped into this well in the past.

I’ll posit that you don’t see many superstars in coaching or administration because they are paid well enough in their short years that they don’t need to work at the end of their playing life. The Matt Ellis’ of the NHL weren’t set up quite so nicely at the end of their 6-8 yrs, so they coach or take administrative roles in the only industry they know. Regardless, this isn’t an inspiring hire. It’s also not really indicative of anything else, positive or negative. Good luck, Matt. The fans need it. -
I caught a headline that COVID immunity is estimated at “up to” 3 months. That's not much of a timeframe for immunity if accurate.

I don’t want to consider this.

Long time Flyers hater but this version is compelling. Flyers-Lightning could be an interesting and fun conference final.

Inky, I love you.❤️

And now it goes to the politics thread...

I haven’t liked a Sabres uniform since...... well, since they last looked like these. Its still nothing but fluff until they get a 2C, 2RW and a goalie.

Don’t type out the name a 3rd time.....
