  1. I just read an article in The Hockey News magazine and they were discussing deadline moves involving 1st round picks and how they look good, but don't usually end up hurting the team that traded them because most of the time the team trading them has a late 1st round pick and its less likely that player turns into anything really special. It was said that most good GMs of contenders are willing to move that late 1st for something decent over better prospects because they know the better prospect will probably amount to more in the league and is worth more then a rental at the deadline
  2. i would be shocked if they didn't keep this years with Tavares out. They have a good chance of getting a top 3-5 pick now without him playing and moving Vanek & McDonald. With a decent offseason and an upgrade in net, they could be a playoff team with a healthy Tavares and Buffalo gets a bottom half of the draft 1st from them Of course with Garth Snow in charge I wouldn't be willing to bet money on that though............
  3. Penguins used the #1 pick to obtain their current starter before they obtained one of the greatest players ever (and have only one cup to show for it)The Redwings won a bunch of cups with the greatest goaltender to ever play the game, Hasek, and potential HOFer in Osgood The Blackhawks seem to be the the odd one out here that are doing it without having to have a top tier goalie I can't see the Blues agreeing to move Allen unless they have an extension signed on the dotted line by Miller. They are not going to move their current starter, and their #1 of the future in order to get a few months rental of Miller. I think its highly unlikely the Blues make a move thats going to cost them Allen, and they don't acquire Miller without moving Halak or Elliot in a deal I agree, I think it makes them significantly better, but I don't think it raises them the top of the pact over Chicago or Anaheim like acquiring Miller would do for the Blues
  4. You could say that if the game was even remotely close, but as far as anyone outside the Seahawks team knows, It may not have been that the broncos contained him andymore then them having a big lead and everything else working that they didn't try to do much with him. Also, Lynch seems like the type of guy in Seattle that quietly gets a few yards most of the game, then rips off a couple of big runs once in a while that help up his stats and make it look like he did even more.
  5. Miller for Subban and Briere so he can replace price for the game or 2 he might miss (Day to Day)With Subban they can also convince the Bruins to trade his brother to Buffalo for Erhoff, and then they can send someone else to Columbus to acquire Foligno (the older). The Sabres then send Moulson to LA for Jordan Nolan and TP considers this a huge win for buffalo and creating the "family atmosphere" he wants Garth Snow agrees. Are the coaches won run teh practice going to refund the season ticket holders who paid good money to see Price play?
  6. Yeah, He's right, its been a proven fact that successful teams don't build from the goalie out. Just ask the Leafs, Islanders, Oilers, and Flyers
  7. It was a joke, its not like the Sweedes needed a backup goalie, Henrik spent every second on the ice.
  8. Theres always risks for both the player and the GMs. The problem with Darcy was that he always wanted to be the obvious genius in the deal, he would never take a chance to move someone if he didn't end up as the winner of the deal right away. No one knows what offers were presented during the summer, or last deadline. DR could have sat there and said that it wasn't enough for him and he would wait til the market picks up again at the deadline. But you take a risk because you could end up with other teams that come out and decide they want to move a goalie also, or teams that end up not needing to bring in someone from outside. At teh start of the season, teams that you thought were looking may find they don't need one, while others that appeared solid might need someone. For Miller, he could get a Henrik offer from the Sabres and decide to re-sign or take his chance in FA. He could end up in a FA market where a few options come in and flood the market weaking his bargaining. Right now you have a team like the Canes who can screw the market up by putting Cam Ward out there on the table because Khudobbin (the backup goalie they signed in the offseason) has stepped up in Wards abscence has taken over and played better. A team interested in Miller may now look at the Canes and find they would get a better deal and feel comfortable enough in Ward that they can win with him.
  9. Enroth had to put on his equipment and sit on a bench Sunday, as I said, the most time he spent on the ice surface was waiting to have the Silver medal hung around his neck.
  10. I believe that if there is a deal to be done in St Louis for Miller, it won't be just a pick or a low prospect, its going to include either Halak or Elliot coming back the other way with maybe a pick. The Blues aren't going to keep 3 goalies on the roster, and getting someone like Halak back gives them someone they can re-sign and give them a starter for now until one of the guys in the minors can take the spot As for the Callahan part, I'm not even considering weither Callahan would sign here or not, my point was that there have been comments about spending whatever to try and bring him in and how the cap shouldn't be an issue so who cares if they overpay, yet in discussing miller, people comment that they should overpay and that they shouldn't tie up cap space.
  11. well Miller could have always left Saturday and had a day advantage on getting back if he left Saturday. But the same could be said for Jhonas, but he should only be feeling jet lagged, its not like his job was anything more then opening the door and patting Henrik on the back after the games. I think the longest time he spent on ice in Sochi was waiting for them to put the medal around his neck.
  12. So you want to see them make a move for the sake of making a move? Priority #1 should be to re-sign him, the best thing a young developing team could have is having a strong goaltender in net that can allow them to not have to worry about mistakes so much and focus on other things other then trying to protect a young goalie. If he refuses to work on negotiating a new deal and you can get a reasonable offer for him at the deadline, then move him, if your not getting reasonable offers, keep him and continue to work on re-signing him then if you still can't convince him see if you can move his rights prior to July 1st like they did for Erhoff. In the Callahan thread everyone was gushing over giving him whatever he wants even if its overpaying because they have so much cap space available, so why can't this apply to Miller too? Why are people worried about overpaying a goaltender but not about overpaying a 3rd liner (whos salary demands are only a few million less then what Lundqvist was given a season)?
  13. What the heck did John Scott do that was so bad to be punished like that?
  14. Making Speed skating more like Roller derby would definitly liven up the sportI've also thought about changing Biathalon participants to be able to shoot at other participants during the cross country skiing part and adding jumps to the Bobsled/luge/skeleton tracks Its 2014, time to make the olympics more XTREME!
  15. And that happens to every team, they lose FAs for nothing all the time. The issue with Drury/Briere thats different is that they had the ability to re-sign them and failed to do so. Briere was almost begging them to just make him an offer but they passed to focus on Drury who had already checked out and was obviously headed to the Rangers.
  16. Sounds like Ghostbusters 3 won't be going ahead now, if it ever really was
  17. On Wednesday Night?
  18. ......And its Jeremy Roenick
  19. because its probably the only thing we are both good enough at that we can compete at the top level of the sport against each other
  20. This should make all of you feel sooooooo DirtyCheering for the Lumberjack
  21. You don't see many Mercedes around the Niagara area, but when you get to the GTA area, they are everywhere
  22. I have a question for everyone, it seems like there is alot of excitement over this new management team in place and alot of people here feeling that the have some great minds in place to turn this team around. My question is, besides being a great Sabre player and a fan favourite, what has Lafontaine done in a management position since he stopped playing to make people believe he is a great hockey mind or someone who can be in charge to turn this team around? I ask this seriously, he worked in the Islanders front office for a short time, but what did he do there that would make people believe he is someone who can turn a franchise around?
  23. Has he been the #2? I haven't been able to find any info on who their backup has been because Henrik has played every second for them he's from Sweeden, are they into Kinky Sex? I would have said he was injured while disassembling some of the IKEA furniture he brought with him for his room I see the opposite, I think it will be a tight close game, Canada will obviously give up one goal cause Price is in net (I say this wearing a Team Canada Price jersey right now)I think if they lose though, theres going to be a lot of questioning directed towards Crosby who seems to have disappeared. One question I have to ask, What type of reaction do you think Kessel and VanRymsdyk will get in the first game back in Toronto if they win this game and come back with Gold? Will the Fans in Toronto Boo them for beating Canada, or cheer on their Maple Leaf players for what they won?
  24. Years ago maybe, but in the last year or 2 its much better compared to the nicotine flavoured stuff Timmys pours
  25. Mercedes and Canadian? Maybe if they are from toronto (well, moved to Toronto from somewhere else....)And the Canadian paid for the jeans, along with the new shoes they are wearing, the old ones were just ditched in the parking lot garbage cans so they don't hyave to declare them when they get back to the Border
