  1. Yeah, i think he has a more important issue to be working on other then trades at this time....... I do wonder if Calgary rallies around the coach filling in tonight for Peters and they get the win, or if the issue is a distraction for them.....
  2. Everyone I have talked to seemed to think it was time to get rid of him and weren't shocked it happened (there's been rumored riffs between him and Dubas), but most were shocked at it happening during a road trip. I figured he was gone at the end of the season when they lose in the 1st round of the playoffs, guess Leafs management figured with the 6 game slide that they wouldn't get the chance to have a 1st round exit this year.....
  3. I would like to see the Sabres bring in Babcock to coach. Call him up, make him an offer, then on the day of his press conference to announce it, have him show up to an empty place with no press conference and no job, and the Pegulas speeding by in their car flipping him off and laughing.......
  4. Gretzky was always known for his defence........
  5. I didn't even know he was coaching there....
  6. When I read it, I assumed he has either a Drug or Alcohol issue and it's a rehab program he would be going to. Since they can't put him on IR, this is the way for the team and league to let him get help during the season.
  7. I don't think they will go out and try for a #1 unless it's an older vet on a short term deal. They have UPL who will probably be coming up in the next couple years so I doubt they want to use alot of resources for someone else who's young.
  8. Depending on the return, sure You gotta give up something good to get something good in return, your not going to get Crosby by giving up Okposo.... If you look at the lineup, he might be the most expendable player outside of Eichel, Skinner, or Dahlin to get you something good in return. Otherwise your stuck with what's here now and keep hoping there's a prospect who will be coming up soon and explode on the scene.
  9. He may not do the Saturday night segment anymore, or another version of it, but he still does the Sunday Night 'Home Town Hockey' where he and Tara Slone travel around Canada and do a broadcast from that City. Last week they were in Welland and had former Sabres Dan Paille and Matt Ellis, along with former NHLers Bissonnette and Dan Girardi out to talk about growing up and playing in Welland. It's usually a full weekend thing where they have meet Nd greets, games and other stuff to see and do for fans, then it ends with the hosts broadcasting from the location and the location showing one of the nights games on a screen outside (they showed Toronto vs Chicago). Ron isn't out of work if they cut out his Saturday segment. It might be nice for him because he won't have to travel back to the Toronto studio for Saturday's broadcast. (It's a short trip, but he did a bunch of things in Welland on Friday, went back to Toronto on Saturday for Cherry's last segment, then back to Welland Sunday for the broadcast and his apology for not saying or doing anything at the time) As for Don, Sportsnet gave him the chance to apologise for his words and he refused so they let him go. He wasn't fired just for this comment, he has had many comments over the years that got him in trouble and have been viewed as controversial and this was the last one. His comments were directed at refugees/immigrants coming here (and just like south of our borders, it's been a hot button issue that's divided the country) and in today's world comments like that are not being tolerated anymore. His supporters keep saying it's because of him saying 'you people' and twist it to make it out to be him refering to everyone in the country, but it was what followed that got him in trouble, when you add the "...who come here and enjoy our milk and honey, etc." He has always been someone who has had harsh comments about the Euro players who play in the NHL, along with the French. You might be able to blame it on him being from another time where his comments and words would be acceptable, but times are changing and now so is the show. Don could have easily come out, said he misspoke on air and explained what he was trying to say (that Remembrance Day and wearing a poppy is becoming less and less celebrated) and even met with some of the people who have come here and talked with them to possibly inform them of this part of our culture and its importance.
  10. There have been many other times where he has been close but they stuck by him and just passed it off as "Don being Don". Considering he has always been vocal against non North American players, I'm not surprised he has issues with immigrants. He gets away with it because he portrays himself as 'Mr. Canada' and he supports the Troops/Veterans so he can't be a bad guy I'm not surprised, but it's kind of sad to see how many people are trying to defend Cherry and are angry at Sportsnet for firing him. This is the same guy who said that players suing over head injuries are looking for a money grab, after he made millions selling videos of the hits that gave those players head injuries.
  11. Does he have that already?
  12. All that to go with Matthews indefinite suspension (after he is released from prison and forced to be on a sex offender list), the Leafs can't catch a break, lol A local radio station made sure Wednesday afternoon to post the Leafs parade route early for those who want to get prepared to have the best seats.....
  13. I think the video game NHL20 did their version and had Buffalo near the bottom with 82 points, Ducks were below them with 81
  14. Eichel looks stoned wolfing down wings Stamkos (or whomever it is from the lightning) looks like he may be playing with himself under the desk starring at the cup....
  15. I watched him a bunch in the OHL, he has alot of talent, just has a bad reputation. It was never going to work with him on the Islanders, they kept holding him back. He needs a change of scenery. I would love to see him here but I think he needs a place with a good locker room where some veteran leaders could take him under their wing and show him how to do things, I don't think they have that here right now.
  16. Former Sabre & Amerks player Mark Mancari made his debut as an assistant coach for the OHLs Niagara Ice Dogs last night as the beat Luukkonens former team that looks to be really missing him.
  17. Except I think Clarkson is only owed like a million or so of his contract IIRC, it was front loaded so it mostly just cap hit with little cash needing to be spent.
  18. Apparently between Clarkson and Horton both on LTIR, the Leafs will get an additional $10.5 mil in cap space once the season starts. They will probably wait til the season begins to announce a Marner extension....
  19. Those numbers have bust written all over them......
  20. But GMs have to look at it is having to pay most likely overpay for a player to get a team to not match and give up draft picks for them. GMs are less likely to spend that capital on a player who is not elite or isn't considered anything special unless they see something in that player that everyone else has missed. Marner, Aho, Laine are guys that have proven a bit in the league and have potential to be very good high-end, possibly elite players in the league so teams may be willing to role the dice and give them a big salary while also giving away picks to acquire them.
  21. While true that Tage didn't play well, it's not like Nylander did anything special to make him deserve being given a roster spot on the NHL team. Prospects should earn/force the team to give them roster spots, not expect it to be handed to them cause of where they were drafted and their fathers name. He did nothing special while here to earn a roster.spot
  22. I guess the choice could be to take $1mil to play for a team that was a cup contender last season or make $5mil for a bottom tier team that will be lucky to make the playoffs? Teams aren't going to make RFA offers to guys that aren't potentially elite players.giving up assets to have to sign a FA isn't a favorable thing for many GMs. The teams with higher picks they would be willing to move are typically playoff teams with little cap space. The ones with cap space are typically the lower teams risking losing more valuable better picks.
  23. So apparently Nylander took some shots at the Sabres and the front office on his way out the door. Said he expected to be playing in the NHL by now. It's ok, we all expected him to be up in the NHL by now too, along with the Sabres management. Not their fault Nylander couldn't crack a bad lineup and didn't out up numbers in the minors that warranted him being given a full time shot in the NHL.........
  24. Actually sounds like this defensemen wasn't disappointing, saw something from someone in Chicago saying he is top 4 defencemen now who could be a top pairing guy. Was loaned to Finland for the World juniors where he played alot of minutes and was one of the top 3 players for them.
  25. The only way I can see that happening is if Carolina made a low ball offer, Aho made a crazy counter that he was standing firm on. Carolina says fine, go to the market. Montreal says they will offer sheet him early with a reasonable offer that they negotiate with him. Carolina wants this so they don't drag out negotiations all summer. Aho sees the offer as reasonable when no one else shows interest at what his asking price is and signs. Carolina matches and keeps him at a lower amount Highly doubt that's what actually happened, but that's probably the most realistic way I see it having gone down if there's was discussions before hand. Can't see why Montreal would agree to it (unless they had noninterest in making any big moves bit wanted to make it look that way to their fans). Also seems unrealistic for Carolina to risk him finding a taker at what he wants and possibly being forced to have to let him go cause they can't afford him.
