Taylor Leier Signed to One Year NHL Deal by Sabres
7+6=13 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
My reply was based on "low round draft picks". So in that case, IMO, it's not worth making the team even slightly worse. That's the fundamental difference between our opinions. I don't think 4th round picks to make the team worse is the best thing you can do for the team. I completely understand value in trading, so long as the return is at least reasonable to help the team in the future. -

Because at some point you have to show the players you plan on keeping that putting the best product on the ice for them the remaining 23 games - matters more than, eh get what you can. -
What a special shot that young man has.

Heck I'd be willing to watch a team that stinks with a great goalie. Ben Bishop should be on our team.

Still time to win rookie of the year

Victor is an example of how important young players turning into real players is.

Jack is a stud period.

Why Hutton?

Our goaltender's handle the puck so poorly

I'm getting really close to that too. I've been buying the center ice package for as long as it's been offered and I'm 50/50 on getting it again next year. I'm tired of wondering if it's the coach, GM, players and I'm getting tired of caring about which one.

Admittedly I'm overly optimistic about the Sabres and have been since drafting Jack. I'm not seeing a path to becoming a playoff team and answers are so unclear.

Good grief Pilut -
Of course the Sabres were implicit in his value - it would be impossible not to be. That's why I don't think spending 7.5 mil on a single player in FA is the answer nor will give us a direct comparison to losing O'Reilly. Build a second line totally and that's what will make us relevant.

I get that having Kyle out helps but....
-
Except he's not the best 2-way center right now. The point is, so what, he's gone. We lost the trade by a country mile but the market set O'Relly's value at the time. It's about what do we do from here. Building a second line can/should be done. I also don't think firing GM's every few years is the way to go.

One of the best players in the league? That's a huge stretch. He's not even the best player on his own team and he wasn't the best player on our team. We can overcome that trade, though I agree it was awful.

I was thinking about this during last nights game. There's a few players that I thought had a really nice game. Jack, Frolic and Vesey. I was thinking, why do we have so many players that I kind of like, they have really nice games, which is normal for middle tier players - yet we still stink? I believe the reason isn't that we're completely void of good players, it's my opinion that we're missing an entire 2nd line. I think the above graph illustrates that. We need Jack, Skinner and Sam on the top line, a real second line of non current Sabres and the rest of the players moved down a line and the bottom moved out. Since we may not be able to attract top free agents or have enough ammo to trade for these players - I think some have to come from FA and we must have the farm system fill these voids. Finding and building a 2nd line should be something we can do and I'd spend any resources available to get a goalie too.

Please God let this young man be one of the many answers we need.

Hockey last names are especially tricky.
