  1. Oh, I am sure he has. Those guys were giants in the 1960's before Hull ran off to Winnipeg. Mikita continued to produce, but it wasn't the same one-two punch. They won their only cup together in 1961. I think Bowman was referencing Kane and Toews cause they were a huge part of the teams that brought the cup back to Chicago for the first time in 49 years. Twice in Four years. Hence, "back on the map." Compare that to the quiet days before those two came along During which the Hawks only made the playoffs once from 1998-2008.
  2. Blackhawks GM: Kane and Toews will be here "no matter what" http://espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/story/_/id/9641368/gm-patrick-kane-jonathan-toews-chicago-blackhawks-forever "I can't predict what the salary cap will be in the near future, but I can tell you that Jonathan and Patrick will be on this team," Bowman told the team's website. "Those two players put the Blackhawks back on the map. They're up in a couple years, and whatever the numbers are, we'll figure out the details. The notion that the money we're spending now will affect our ability to keep Jonathan and Kane ... it's a non-issue. They will be here no matter what." I would love to see the day when a Buffalo GM is able to say this in regards to two players. Hopefully it's not too far off.
  3. You can't go wrong traveling along the South Carolina low country from Charleston and down into Savannah Georgia. St. Augustine Florida isn't too far away from Savannah and that's a jewel too. Lots of history and beautiful scenery. The ladies in Charleston are an extra added bonus.
  4. Yes, Regier addressed The Briere Situation the other day. He said that Danny isn't the same player he was before and when specifically asked if Buffalo was interested he said, "Let me think on that." http://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/regier-doubtful-sabres-will-land-top-pick-miller-and-vaneks-future-still-in-air/
  5. Don't feel like digging up the Islanders coming to Brooklyn thread, but this thread ought to do. here is the Barclay's center with the boards all in for hockey. Getting pretty excited to walk to a hockey game...and bar crawl home. Can't wait for Buffalo to come to town.
  6. Listening to this Chicago crowd, you'd never know their team was on the verge of the Stanley Cup finals.
  7. Woah. Hold up. If the sabres start operating like Wang runs that club, people are really going to moan and cry. Yes they made the postseason, as an 8 seed. Yes they have some great young talent. But at this point they are not a model franchise.
  8. This game has all the bad feeling of that game 7 against Philly a few years ago.
  9. Rangers TV announcer pinning the third goal on Buffalo fans. Saying Miller heard the Bronx cheers for a simple shot from the blue line and he lost focus because of it.
  10. Did Weber get 1st star? MSG always cut off, but I think I saw it on the jumbotron at the start of the post-game show. If so, good for him.
  11. NBC sports just made some comments about Brooks Orpik being the Penguins all time leader in games played by a d-man. Have they made any mention of Miller setting Buffalo's mark for a goalie? I missed most of the 1st period.
  12. I have been using that major league quote all season with my friends. So appropriate.
  13. I went to the game last night, and when I see Buffalo in NJ it's a tradition to go and watch the Sabres come out of the locker room and get on the team bus. The team is very accessible and many of the guys will stop and chat/sign autographs and take pictures. that being said, for me, the saddest thing I saw last night was not my favorite hockey team blowing a 2 goal lead with 5 minutes left. It was watching RJ walk out the door of the Prudential Center with a cane and hobble slowly through the falling snow toward the bus with his head down. The man looks like he is on his way out.
  14. Got some cheap seats 4 rows from the glass in the end the sabres shoot twice. I bought them last night to make myself feel better. consolation prize for not being able to drive back to buffalo for the labatt blue pond hockey tourney. My teammates are from the city and the forecast scared the hell out of them. They refused to get in the car. I still hold that the drive would have been totally doable had we just driven through PA on the 80 instead of driving straight through the Catskills and the southern tier. This storm was amateur hour here in the city.
  15. I can think of one specific play where he covered for a pinching D-man and was the first back when the Bruins took the puck the other way. Then he retrieved the puck from the defensive end, and skated it back down into the offensive zone.
  16. Funny that you should ask. He has been moved to center.
  17. I am going to put this in here, since he's still considered a "prospect" Cody Hodgson's hand is broken.Bummer for him, the Amerks, and the Sabres. According to Bill Hoppe, he was on an 84 point pace. Per Twitter:The break in Cody Hodgson's hand was caused by a slash from @Phantomshockey D-man Brandon Manning Oct. 27. "Two-hander" #Amerks center said.
  18. The CHL Super Series begins on Monday. Russia is playing the QMJHL. Grigorenko is on the Russian Roster. So is Yakupov. Catenacci is on the OHL Roster for the Nov. 12th game. NHL Network is airing it. http://www.subwaysuperseries.ca/
  19. They can't tell him to stop, but they can ask him. Whether or not he complies is up to him, and it sounds like he decided not to put up much of an argument. It would be different if the county had posted signs that ordered people to stay out of the water.
  20. NYC is a mess. Half a million people without power, and there are whole neighborhoods that were destroyed (fires and flooding) Just came in from a walk around my neighborhood. So many trees all twisted and torn to hell. The front of my building got ripped off. It's sad, and we are on the high ground. Our neighbors just a few miles away are really in a bad way. I feel lucky to have power and a dry place to stay.
  21. http://gothamist.com/2012/10/29/photos_fdr_completely_flooded_east.php#photo-6 If anyone is familiar with the city, FDR drive is completely submerged uptown in the mid 80's.
  22. Checking in from Brooklyn. Wind is picking up, misty rain is getting more steady. During The lead-up to this storm, people seemed to be less active than the prep period for Irene, but now that it is closer, it's fair to say that people are heeding warnings. Streets are quieter than I expected them to be. It's spooky to see the train stations cordoned off and Pizza parlors and bodegas with their doors shuttered. Personally I have supplies all ready to go ( featuring 6 gallons of freshly brewed hard cider). Getting ready to indulge in Boardwalk Empire from the beginning (never seen it)
