If fans could fire an owner, would you fire Terry?
nfreeman replied to PASabreFan's topic in The Aud Club
Do you think this is how McD and BB were hired for the Bills? Or JB was hired for the Sabres? -
What is the point of this post? "Ha, ha, some people are so dumb that they don't realize that young athletes tend to put on muscle over time?"

Our dishwasher, after 17 years of heroic service, died last week. It is a freaking PITA doing dishes by hand. And: I bought the replacement yesterday, with promises of a confirming email and a call scheduling delivery today. Still no email or call.

Interesting. I haven’t heard this before either. Pretty GD stupid of TM if true.

To be clear: this is a memorial thread, not a thread for discussion of whacked-out conspiracy theories.

Movies / TV Shows - I Have Watched / Plan To Watch
nfreeman replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
There is a lot of gut-wrenching family drama in the first couple of seasons that is hard to watch. But @Neo is right that it gets better over time and turns into a really gripping and well-made crime drama. (I still don't have BB as high on my list as many others do, but IMHO it's definitely worth watching.) -

The HBO show "Deadwood" is on Amazon and is on par with the Sopranos and the Wire at the top of the HBO drama canon, IMHO. If you get FX shows, I think "Fargo" fits well into your list and was outstanding (Seasons 1 and 2 more than Season 3 though). Also, "The Americans" was a great spy thriller, although it ran out of gas in its last 2 seasons, and "the Shield" was a great cop show. If you get Sundance, "Deutscheland 83" was also a great spy thriller, although Season 1 was much better than Season 2. "Friday Night Lights" (the show, not the movie) is on Amazon and was mostly great, if a bit uneven in parts, and not as dark or violent as the shows on your list. "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" were both great HBO WWII mini-series. Larry Sanders, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage are all good-to-great HBO comedies. "Catastrophe" is a great Amazon comedy. I saw the QT movie a month or so ago and thought it was excellent. My wife and I saw BBTL over the weekend. It wasn't a great movie IMHO, but it was pretty good and as a Bruce fan I really enjoyed it. -
Prospects Challenge GDT: Penguins at Sabres, September 9 @12:30PM

As someone with a good-sized nose myself, I'll note that RK has quite a honker there. -
I agree with @Drunkard that Bogo is pretty unlikely to agree to LTIR. If he plays 65+ games this year and has a decent season (2 big ifs, to be sure), someone is likely to give him a 3-year deal, which could easily be the last NHL contract he gets. OTOH, if he is on LTIR all year, he's looking at training camp tryouts the following year. However, @Brawndo is certainly right IMHO that the Sabres have a strong case if they want to push for LTIR.
-
It's not a "lazy narrative." He was lousy from about halfway through the 1st quarter until the 4th quarter.
-
Also worth noting IMHO: Allen, despite struggling for 2/3 of the game, looked better than Darnold.
-
I think it’s useful to boil this down to open roster spots and guys competing for them (assuming 13 F and 7 D). Forward locks: Eichel, Skinner, Reino, Jojo, Mittsie, Erod, Vesey. Forward near-locks: KO, Olofsson Forwards competing for last 4 spots: Sheary, Larsson, Zemgus, Wilson, TT, Sobotka, Asplund, Cozens, Ruotsie, CJ D Locks: Dahlin, Montour, Risto, McCabe, Miller D competing for last 2 spots: Bogo, Pilut, Joker, Scandy, Borgen So, that would be 10 forwards competing for 4 spots, and 5 D competing for 2 spots. (NB that a Risto trade will likely result in significant changes to the above.)

Negative. The ball was at Beasley's knees, not in the dirt. It was a bit low, but that pass, into that defense, is supposed to be low. Those photos are indecipherable, but the TV replay from the QB's perspective showed that it was absolutely catchable.
-
I don't necessarily think he's done -- I just think he had a down year last season, he's not cheap and he's covered in Sabres stink, and therefore no one is going to give up anything of value for him.
-
I don't think anyone will give the Sabres anything better than a low draft pick (i.e. 5th round or lower) for Sheary or Scandy.
-
Well, presumably if Laine is traded, a contract will be part of the deal, and that contract will establish some parameters for the other RFAs.
-
Well I guess it is deniable! Good fact. I stand corrected.
-
Well, perhaps I overreacted to the 1st half suckitude, but I did watch the whole thing. Totally agree with both of these points. That INT was on Beasley, and he dropped a long one late that JA lofted over the defender beautifully and dropped right into his hands. Otherwise: - That was Allen's best game by far IMHO, even though he was pretty shaky for most of the 1st half, and reason for hope for the season. - The O-line looked greatly improved. - John Brown might be the best FA that McD/BB have brought in. I think Hyde is the only one close. - The D is very tough. - Pretty undeniable that Singletary didn't get loose until Mosely went out. Still, he delivered, which is great. - They were pretty lucky that the Jets' kicker pooped the bed.
-
Awesome. Another $250 or however much Sunday Ticket is down the drain.

Is the stream from sabres.com working for anyone? I keep getting the circle but it doesn't load. -

It’s probably my #2 show of all time after Mad Men.
