Chad D: expect a Byram trade at or around the draft
oddoublee replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
I have no issue with "redundant" talent on the roster. For me, the concern with the defensive structure is the average age. They are simply too young. The D needs to get older and more responsible. -

Chad D: expect a Byram trade at or around the draft

Why drop it? I don't want a player with one year left. That's my stipulation. If they get a player with one year, that will disappoint me. Not understanding your disapproval with this. -

Toffoli or Coutre? Bertuzzi or Teravainen? -
Chad D: expect a Byram trade at or around the draft

The only way a late first will work for me, personally, is if a solid vet comes back with some term. Wonder if SJ or Chicago have any late 20's early 30's players with 2 years left that don't fit there immediate plans... -
I would think we would all be tired of over priced, under performing young defenseman at this point. Let's find a 29-32 yr old vet to lead this God forsaken D group of ours. This group needs to get older...not younger.

Lol...you got me to actually it up. The answer....Yes! Ice is always wet. -
It's a shame it won't happen. But this is exactly the high priced asst HC you bring in at a time like this. Lindy fails, he steps in. Lindy does well, he gets hired somewhere else as a HC - OR - Lindy retires/gets an office position and he becomes our HC. It's a great move from an improvement/insurance perspective. This is an asst HC you over pay for.

Jason Robertson rumored to be on the trade block
oddoublee replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
If Dallas is looking to move Robertson, they most likely will not want peterka in return. Their motive would be cap based, and peterka counters that. I could see 9, kulich and a B level prospect/2nd rounder getting it done -
Jason Robertson rumored to be on the trade block

25 year old w 40 goal ability and rfa restriction after next season....and they want to trade him, why? I'm not buying. Could they be floating to see what his perceived value is before making a contract commitment? Guys who shoot the puck like this should never hit the market......id give up a first and a couple more A pieces to get him. -
Matthew Fairburn Latest Article regarding Terry Pegula and Adams
oddoublee replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Article was mostly meh. Not a lot new came from it. Mostly reinforcing what most of us know; the bills are #1 and the sabres are a distant second....magnified by terrys insistence on being involved from the ivory tower. He's trying to have his cake and eat it too -
Reading a lot about minny wanting one of phillys 1st round picks for Rossi. If a team likes Rossi? Is a first really an overpay? For the sabres, id think it would be a no brainier. Worst case he ends up the sabres 3c or top 6 wing. Best case he slides up and down between 1 and 2c. How are the sabres not better for this? Or a lot of NHL teams for that matter? NHL GMS are way too greedy w 1st round picks, imo
-
They are speculative still. Just bc I'm hopeful and relatively confident in them doesn't make them a guarantee. Being a good GM is more than drafting high upside prospects. That's usually a give. It's using draft capital and highly thought of prospects to obtain middle 6 players. (Not middle 6 players that are middle 6 players on a non playoff team/see sabres). Additionally, it also knowing when to go after FA'S on the 'wrong' side of 30 to slide up and down your top 3 lines/top 4 D. Adams has drafted upside prospects. He even parlayed a prospect into a middle 6 winger. All to the tune of a bottom 1/3 team. He has simply not been aggressive enough and in the right way. Their record is very clear on this. We haven't even discussed goalies yet...
-
I'm simply looking at what each did with full bodies of work over the course of a full season. 15-20 game seasons mean very little to me, personally.
-
I don't know...they have both played 2 full seasons and rossi statistically and corsi outperformed him. I hope Quinn fully healthy blossoms, because if Norris can stay healthy....we needs goal scorers on the wing. Although a Norris, Tage and Rossi C spine does sound 'neat'

Hockey Heaven? what the Sabres are competing with
oddoublee replied to mjd1001's topic in The Aud Club
I've lived in western NY, Florida and Ohio. You are underestimating just how expensive WNY is overall - and you're overestimating the value WNY brings in education, insurance and especially government. Ohio and Florida are lapping NY right now....and it breaks my heart. Maybe 20 years ago it was close...but it no longer is. -
Is pulock available? If so, great. Cannot always be opposed to a player aged 29-32 with term. Winning teams have them. Avoiding them is overly risky adverse imo
-
I think they are a bit overrated. Our top line is a descent scoring second. We lack a versatile top line that can adequately score and play two way hockey. From my perspective, minutes deserved, we have a second line, 2 third lines and a mediocre fourth line. This team is far from being competitive.

Ruff and Adams end-of-season press conference: Saturday, April 19, 4:30pm
oddoublee replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Not saying your proposal is what I would do exactly...but your style of thinking is what is needed. Major shakeup moves. D needs a reset. -
Not saying I want it...but I don't hate the idea of him getting 20 minutes being top dog and refining his offensive skills. Play PP and a lil PK. Dominate against men rather than boys. I'm not sold on everything I just wrote...but if the sabres actually were able to bring in vets that can help push to the playoffs...it's a scenario I could 'live' with.
-
Do the rules allow for it? If so, depending on his off-season and training camp, I don't hate the idea.
-
I'm not sure he 'should' be a top 6 forward already. Many teams outside of the sabres would not have him in their top 6. Our team sucks. Him currently being in the top 6 is a problem imo. Not a forever problem...but a current one.
-
That's the tough part - and probably why you don't bring 18 year old kids to the NHL unless they are truly special offensively. The Sabres believed they were a playoff team the last two years, preventing them from 'developing' his game. Sink or swim. Good news, I think Benson has the mental chops to fight through the meat grinder. Definitely not untouchable though - for the right haul, you move him.
