His drafting failures can be partly attributed to the absence of a legitimate scouting department. Money was tight and Regier was forced to rely on video scouting. This put him at a huge disadvantage.

He’s a likely 4th line center replacement for Larson if we don’t resign him. Possibly 3rd line Center but that is a reach.

In an interview today he implied that Skinner is a defensive liability and Vesey, Girgensons and everyone else who has played with Jack and Sam was responsible defensively. This is his rationale for not playing Skinner on the top line and to get balanced scoring. . I didn’t realize that VO was so good defensively.

Scandella was at least a solid player. Another terrible trade. I know it wasn’t a direct trade.

No evidence we had to overpay. Botteril was just inexperienced and got played by the agent. If Botteril was smart which he isn’t, he would have traded Skinner at deadline and resigned him during free agency probably 7 years 7 million per year. He already knew Skinner wanted to be here so there was a high probability he would have resigned at a reasonable price.

I don’t think any quality in demand coach would want to work with an incompetent like Botteril. I suspect Krueger is having serious regrets about taking the job

All of those were bad moves no doubt but context is important. Eichel and Reinhart we’re very young and Gorges was brought in for leadership along with Gionta. Unfortunately neither could play at that stage of their careers. Losing Mcnabb and Pysyck for garbage was not good but Okposo was clearly TM biggest error.

The German Tim Stutzke looks pretty good and may be available at 3. I’ve read that he could play in NHL next year as a 2nd line LW.

Unfortunately Okposo isn’t going anywhere.

There’s a big difference between drafting at #9 vs #32. Still too high for RB either way but Michel was a much better pick than Spiller.

Kane was recovering and out for the season when he was acquired. That was part of the intentional tank. It worked like a charm. I wasn’t happy that TM gave up a first for a goalie but Lehner has proven to be quite talented. Botteril has done a terrible job with both the goaltending and Center positions, the two most important positions.
