This is where our entire team suffers. Asplund just had time to slaughter Fox. Didn't even touch him... and Fox was able to make an easy, uncontested pass, because he knew none of our forwards will finish a hard check. Fox should have been buried there.

Yep, other than losses, one thing this Sabres team leads the league in is fewest penalty minutes.

”But, doesn’t that just mean they’re disciplined?”

For anyone mentioning Halak, the last time we acquired him he refused to report and play for the Sabres.   He dressed for one game and didn't play, and basically forced Murray to trade him to Washington for Neuvirth.  I'm sure he's not coming here now either.

Oh, really? I hadn’t heard that.  I thought it was part of the “end up with the worst goalie so we don’t win”.

I had to put my cat down this afternoon. It's been an emotional day. These kids picking up a fun win tonight was something I really needed. Grateful.

My condolences.  I had a tuxedo cat that acted like a dog.  He unfortunately developed cancer around an eye and the vet said he was probably in a lot of pain.  Still it was tough.

I wouldn't be worried. Besides, we need to see where he is at.

If he is an NHL caliber goalie, he wouldn't be "ruined" by getting shelled. The really good ones have no memory, moreover they don't give a sh**.  If he has a confidence problem after getting shelled after his first NHL game, he's probably never going to be NHL worthy.

I’ll never forget when the Sabres put 18 year old Marty Biron in.  An opposing player fired a shot, which hit the back of the net, and then Marty’s glove hand came up.  He was definitely not ready but it didn’t ruin him.

But who would be get back in trade that is a proven upgrade over all the kids I just listed? The answer is likely no one, because what we will get back are similar young players, prospects or picks.  Nothing that is a sure fire upgrade.

I’m not trading Eichel for any reason or any offer.  I believe this team has actually turned the corner.  I’m no longer interested in more prospects.  have those and those kids are proving with each passing game that they are ready to move this team forward.  Why on earth would I remove the best of the lot when he finally has help?

    Kevyn?

The Rangers have plenty of assets. Soon to be 1G, Fox, Kakko/Laf, Zib, Miller, Buchnevich.

Would anyone not take Shesterkin, Fox, Laf and Buchnevich for Eichel?

Wouldn’t this offseason be a good opportunity for a trade?  I don’t want to see it, but teams have to prepare for the expansion draft.  They may be more willing to give up players in trade to get something in return, rather than losing them in the expansion draft for nothing.

From the Sabres standpoint, doesn’t this youth movement also put them in better position for the expansion draft?  They can expose guys like Okposo and Hutton, while not needing to do anything regarding some of these youngsters, if I recall the rules correctly.

  7. Unless you were in the room with Adams fielding offers, it’s hard for anyone to say he should’ve got more in return.

That being said, why not wait until closer to the deadline to MAYBE getting a better offer?  Again, though, we don’t know how it happened.  If it was the only or best offer and Boston pushed for a decision or they were moving on, then Adams would’ve felt he had to agree.

Go read what Boston fans think of Bjork over the years. He blew his shoulder out which slowed down the start of his career. The rest reads just like any report on players like Thompson or Mittelstadt over the last two years:  has all the tools there but isn’t putting it together playing grinding minutes for the coach.

I agree losing Lazar hurts, but he’s a 4th liner we saved from being out of the league entirely a year ago. We still have Girgensons. Caggiula is an equivalent to Lazar. Boston is right to target Lazar but in the grand scheme of things he’s easily replaced.

Lazar was leading the Sabres forwards in hits by a large margin.  That’s been a team weakness other than him.

If there was no retention of salary for Hall (and there was none for Montour), then financial considerations (i.e., reducing financial obligations) was an unfortunate part of the decision making with regard to these trades.

Finances have been considered for the most part all year.  The signing of Hall was an outlier.

Did you hear Weekes on the NBC broadcast tearing into the organization for the weak scouting staff?

    What?

    Impact players... like?

So you're talking about a different league. Be precise then.

Interesting that 4 hours later there is still no response.

Eichel was a no-brainer so even the Sabres couldn’t screw that one up.  I guess Reinhardt is a hit but in hindsight Draisital is a definite “impact player” they passed on.  Jury still out on Dahlin, although he has looked very good since they dumped Ralph.  Ullmark showing probably going to be a good starting goaltender.  Oloffson as a 7th rounder can score on the PP on one-timers.

It’s also too easy to say, if they drafted impact players, why are they the worst team in the league.

After all these years, you finally blame the goalie and I can't even agree with you. 🤣

I mean it was a crappy rebound, but it was a bad pinch by Dahlin to allow the shot in the first place, and Fogarty completely missed his man.

Plenty of blame to go around.

It's not that I disagree , but he does have two points and is +4 in the past five games.

Results gotta mean something, right? 🤷‍♂️

1G, 2A, +7 in the past five games, playing 24 minutes a night.

Is he finally shaking off the COVID?

This. Granato's refusal to answer the question was so telling.

I mean I'm mostly with @Taro T that the biggest change is Linus, but have never seen so many individual players look so much better after a coaching change.

They are legitimately entertaining to watch. Casey, Joki, Thompson, Asplund, Monty, Okposo...they've all sudden morphed in to the best versions of themselves.

    And Dahlin...

Tonight was the type of game you expect from a first-overall franchise player — I can't believe he wasn't the first star. Two absolutely elite plays for his points, the second absolutely mind-blowing with the game on the line.

    It was so beautiful

    Dare I say BobbyOrr-ish?!

One win does wonders for the outlook, doesn't it.  We are not close at all. Likely not as bad as we've shown, but we need work.

It was interesting to hear the national (NBCS) comments during this game.  They really like Bryson and thought the prior regime made a good pickup.  They also showed clips of the difference between Dahlin last season vs now.
