I was 18 once, full of pee and vinegar......said no to the YANKEES so I could serve my country in Vietnam. Let's hope Owen is smarter than I was.

Yes, thanks for your service, but it was the Yankees!   So, were you drafted by them?  Just saw something that the first MLB Draft was in 65.

I remember a high school classmate was drafted by the Pirates and also didn’t sign.

Can deals be made on the 22nd?

Starting to think this drags past the draft. As for Eichel’s demeanour that people are taking issue with: it’s ridiculously tame relative to what we’ve seen from other athletes - It’s most like Kawhi actually. And two, I’d probably act like that too if I became aware it was the rookie GM’s mission to trade me as I was somehow responsible for the ineptitude of the franchise since drafted. He’s being scapegoated at best and used as a tool to pave Adams’ long rebuild at worst

You’re right on with the Kawhi comparison, who did it first with San Antonio and now again with the Clippers.

I still don't see how any team would be willing to trade for an injured player.

IMO, this "resolution" is about Jack's health.  Combined with KA's statement it's the agent's way of saying Jack's neck is improving without throwing his client under the bus.

I agree with you.  While many trade scenarios include the Sabres getting another 1st round pick in the upcoming draft, I can’t see a team wanting to trade for Jack with his health future unknown.  If a team was willing to trade for him now, the Sabres wouldn’t be getting much in return anyways.

These guys are so well-spoken. It's refreshing after Murray and Botterill. Will it mean anything in the long-term? We'll see.

    Back to you, Jim.

Murray was embarrassing at the draft and came across as a moron.  While every other GM was saying things like “The Blankety Blanks would like to thank the ‘host city’ for their hospitality.  With the nth pick in the 20xx NHL Draft, the Blankety Blanks are proud to select ‘player’ from the Bippity Bops of the So-and-so Hockey League”, Murray just says “Jack Eichel”.

Eating out has gone up substantially in the past 15 months.

Along with supply chain demands/costs and everyone having a different definition of what “living wage” means. Not to mention those that actually want to work instead of living off the govt. teat, this is the new norm. So those that weren’t making a lot of money to begin with, are still not able to afford certain things. It hasn’t gotten better/more affordable for the minimum wage worker. At all.

It’s incredible that a typical large pizza used to cost around $18-$22 about 15-18 months ago. Now that same pizza costs $26-$30. And that’s one or maybe two toppings. That’s just one example….

    The new norm

But, of course, they’ll lower them when all is back to normal

In the earlier statement it also says he likes the Michigan guys. Probably just means they showed him some game recordings to see Power play and he probably went who's that guy pointing at one of the others or that guy, that guy looks good. It don't mean a lot, just that he likes the Michigan guys. They probably really want another high pick to get Beniers, as many others here do too, but I doubt they'd take Johnson as a top 3. If they did it's stupid. More likely thinking about him with a pick from Vancouver or LA maybe . At 8 or 9 Johnson would be an okay choice I think.

So, is he good on the “power play”?

If Jack and Reino are dealt, will we feel  the same way about this off-season as we did the day Drury and Briere left town?

Yeah, I like the idea of holding onto Reinhardt until the trade deadline.  Then he/the team/we can first see how the returns on the Eichel deal fit and go from there.  If by some miracle that the team is in playoff contention at the deadline, then try and talk him into resigning.  If he refuses, get what you can to help the playoff push and/or the future.

With all the chaos surrounding this organization, thinking of good things can't hurt.

To recap,Dominik Hasek's story is that Buffalo picked him up as a backup goalie from Chicago for next to nothing. In Buffalo, he developed into arguably the greatest goalie of all time. Listening to the Hockey Guy talk about Hasek on youtube brings it all back. One thing I realized in his talk about Hasek is that it's probably true Buffalo was not even a playoff team without Hasek. He took them to the Finals but...we know the rest. At the height of his fame, the Sabres paid Hasek a huge $9 million a year salary. Hasek enabled a team of pluggers to have wild success but in the end, the talent and depth on the team was too thin and possibly his salary hamstrung the team, much like Eichel-Skinner does now.

Then Hasek went to Detroit who was in a much different position...the team had the stars, talent and depth the Sabres lacked and acquiring Hasek was the coups de gras. Lesson learned: there is no shortcut to building a great franchise. You can't spend huge chunks of change on one or two great players. Do it right and then add the final pieces like Hasek in place to cement winning.

And another mistake there was letting Hasek dictate the other half of the trade.  If he really wanted out, he would’ve folded on his demands.

IMO this holds even before potentially liquifying Jack. It's maybe even inclusive of it - the gap will increase even more so and our "system" will improve. Timeline.

If Jack is liquified, I can’t see any team interested in trading for a bucket of human liquid.

I remain skeptical that another team will part with premium assets before seeing Eichel back 100% from his injury.

Then, let Eichel get back to 100% and show he’s healthy and take it from there. However, If the Sabres have a slow start, Jack’s unhappiness could rear its ugly head again and they could be forced into making a deal.

I do agree, though, this injury could likely affect any offers.

I think Buffalo just caught up with everyone. Pizza used to be way cheaper here than anywhere else.

I’ll say.  I moved out here to California and it’s mainly chains.  First experience was with Straw Hat and I ordered a small.  It was very small and was like $9.  I was then amazed when I’d go back to Buffalo and a large was still like $6 and tasted a lot better.  Didn’t change much thru the 1990s.  Haven’t been back in a while.

Things are really reading to me that it's not Eichel who wants to be traded, it's that the Sabres FO has decided to move on from him. I really hope it's not true, but the language being used by both Adams and Karmanos sure seems to be hinting at it.

This is similar to the O’Reilly situation.  To me, when Ryan, as captain, says he’s not having fun playing hockey, he had to go.  Unfortunately they got garbage in return for him.

Eichel does not seem to be a good leader, so him being captain is sketchy.  Keeping him but making someone else the captain wouldn’t work.  He expressed disappointment in losing at the end of last season, which can be good but now comes off as a whiner that doesn’t want to be in Buffalo any longer.  If Adams is going to trade him, he just needs to hold out for the best possible package.  They just can’t get garbage back for him.  If they don’t feel offers are good enough, don’t trade him then.  Some team will likely up the ante eventually.

Also, unless the best offer by far comes from an eastern team, they need to trade him to the west.

I'd move both to the Western Conference, if I could.  Keep the East clear of them.

Eichel to LA seems to work.  Turcotte would fit in perfectly with the type of team that finished out the season.  Something like Turcotte, Vilardi, Bjornfot, and a 2021 1st.  That's the "4 1sts" Adams reportedly wants for Eichel.

Reinhart to Vancouver, Calgary, or maybe Seattle post-expansion draft.  See what Seattle picks up.  They won't get anyone as good as Reinhart, for sure, but they might have some nice pieces.

Projecting, something like Bellows, Kunin, and a 2nd.

Yeah, I’d definitely talk to Seattle.  They’d have more flexibility in building their team.  You’d think they’d jump at a deal for Eichel to start their team with instead of relying on a bunch of fading veterans and unproven youngsters.

I think Rob Ray is hilarious. I think Rick needs to retire. I really wish they would separate TV and radio calls because a radio call needs to be more descriptive than TV does. I also predict no one following Rick will be liked because they aren't Rick.

I’ll never forget the experience listening to a San Francisco Giants radio broadcast by a Phil Stone, who had previously only done TV broadcasting.

His call was something like this: “Here’s the pitch. Centerfielder’s under it.  Inning over.”
