“Even though we have traded Staal we still don’t think there is any room on the roster for R2 to get a look.

Give me CJ Smith, R2, Fogarty for the rest of the season.  They have nothing to lose.  Fogarty atleast is the type of player they want “a Sabre” to be. Plays with some grit and passion.

Cozens, Mitts, R2, Sheahan should be the centre spine moving forward.  Let’s see what they have got.  What is the worst dat happens, they lose a couple games.😉

Of course, after reading dis post and mention of Fogarty, now “Put me in coach, I’m ready to play” is playing in my head.

Team A drives the NBA's ratings. Scott Foster and Joey Crawford know their job and that job is to get the Lakers to the finals. They've taken up Dick Bavetta's mantle.

Of course there was that one time the Heat won the 06 title by taking a thousand more foul shots than the Mavericks after the Mavs took a 2-0 series lead.

Actually, nothing compares to the 2002 Western Conference Finals Game 6 between the Sacramento Kings and the Lakers. The Kings led the series 3-2.  The Lakers shot 27 free throws in the 4th Qtr.  One of the most blatant foul calls was when Kobe Bryant raised his arms with the ball and elbowed Mike Bobby in the face and they called the foul on Bibby.  That was a disgrace.  Of course, many said the Kings could’ve still won Game 7 at home but they didn’t.

Make-up calls aren't the problem per say, if a ref screws up on a call it is only natural for them to try and return to an equilibrium of sorts with a call against the other team so each team has a PP.

The thing was with this hot mic situation, you don't hear about if he's making this call to make up for something but rather it sounds like he's trying to manipulate the game's flow as a whole. The quote: “It wasn't much, but I wanted to get a penalty against Nashville early in the,” sounds far more like he wants to punish the Preds for some unknown reason than as a make-up sort of call. Maybe it was a make-up call, but from the snippit we heard it sounds damning and thus the hasty firing.

Just wanted to add, that make-up calls don't bother me. What does bother me however are game management or game flow adjustment calls. For instance when Team A takes multiple legit penalties and are playing dirty thus have 4 PKs to lets say 0 PKs for Team B; the refs begin calling weak calls on Team B to help de-skew the appearance of the game. Likewise if one suspects the refs are making a call to stir up a game; for instance, Team A jumps up to a quick 3-0 lead so the refs give Team B a PP to attempt and start a comeback.

I wish the NBA refs would do more of it.  I don’t like when Team A  has 25 to 30 fouls called on them, resulting in like 30 to 40 free throws for Team B,  while Team B has only about 12 fouls called on them, resulting in only 10 free throws for Team A.

    Shouldn’t trade him.

If we do, it’s gotta be mostly current players, young players, we need a high level of certainty.

I’m don’t think I’d hypothetically trade Eichel for Nylander, Mittelstadt, Dahlin, and Cozens right now. And that’s who we picked at the top of the draft - where the picks wouldn’t be.

Never mind the fact that we’d be “getting” what those assets appear as now, in 5, 4, 3, and 2 years from now respectively.

If a team literally offered 4 firsts, I’d immediately hang up. Gotta be players.

I agree.  It would be very shortsighted to want past and future 1st round picks.  You can do this for the NFL or NBA but not the NHL.

Just off the top of my head is the 2014 draft.  Sabres take Reinhardt 2nd and jury still out if he has justified that pick. Taken 3rd was Draisitl, who’s a star.  Taken 4th was the other Sam, Sam Bennet, who has been a disappointment, as has Michael Dal Colle, taken 5th.  Then, late in that 1st round, Pasternak was taken 25th.

Between Black Sunday, The Tank, Ville Leino, the ROR trade, and multiple GM/coaching changes, there’s been a lot of dark days. It’s hard to pinpoint which has been the lowest.

For me, it’s a never ending nightmare, and debating which point has been the lowest, is the lowest point.

July 1st, 2007, when Briere and Drury both left.

Fans shouldn’t buy any tickets to watch this shitshow. I thought the tank years were bad but this is rock bottom. If fans do show up they need to be booed from start to finish.

When they announced “one minute remaining...” at the end of each period, I could almost hear fans cheering.

  7. Living on the West Coast, I used to get the NHL Center Ice but stopped around the time that Briere and Drury left.  At this point, I don’t know why but when they have a freebie week, I record the Sabres games.  Today I found out by accident that there was a Free Preview so I recorded the game.  Pathetic.

I will have the opportunity to watch tomorrow’s game also, and since the opponent is the Devils, the one team the Sabres have been able to beat, I guess I’ll watch it.

For those looking for Ralph to get fired, this seems to be an opportune time.   If they get embarrassed by the Devils, that has to be the last straw, doesn’t it?  Doesn’t it?

This has all the makings of another 5-2 snoozer.

Good guess!  In their last 8 games, they’ve lost by 3 goals 6 times and there’s no reason to dispute that those teams are 3 goals better than this Sabres squad.

It was nice to read that they showed some heart with Miller’s response to the hit on Cozens.

  9. I think there is some similarity of Eichel’s relationship with the Sabres to Joe Thornton’s when he got traded by Boston to San Jose.

Thornton was selected first overall by the Bruins in the 1997 draft.  (Jack of course was taken 2nd)

Thornton’s career started out slower than Jacks’s as he had only 7 points in 55 games his first season and then 41 pts in 81 games in his second season.

Thornton eventually became a point per game player and exploded in his 6th season (the 2002/03 season) with 36 goals and 65 assists for 101 points in 77 games.

Thornton was named team captain prior to that 2002/03 season. (Eichel was named captain before the 2018/19 season and had his best season to that point with 28 goals and 54 assists for 82 points in 77 games).

Thornton regressed in the season following his career year. (Eichel regressed this season after arguably his best season in 2019/20)

Thornton eventually became unhappy with the state of the Boston franchise and upset with criticism of his play. He was under heavy scrutiny for his leadership style and was criticized for not raising the level of his play in the playoffs. (Some similarities to Eichel)

The Bruins were struggling to begin the 2005/05 season so he was traded to San Jose for forwards Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau and defenseman Brad Stuart, the 3rd overall pick of the 1998 draft.

Now, if the Sabres were to trade Eichel, I sure the he!! hope they get a better return. Marco Sturm became a 20+ goal, 40+ point player for the Sharks and continued that pace for 5 seasons with the Bruins before his career fizzled out. Primeau was mediocre with the Sabres and continued as such after the trade to Boston at the age of 29.  Brad Stuart made the NHL ALL-Rookie team in 2000 but never lived up to his high draft position.  Overall, a mediocre return.

Rieder has played his role and is a solid pickup. I still like Staal for MoJo simply so Cozens can play with a center and not a left-wing at center; by April I expect to see Cozens taking faceoffs as it's obvious that Staal retires after this season.

Thompson's contract should have instantly protected him from waivers and he should be in ROC. Girgs is overpaid but incomplete. Sheahen has been pleasantly surprising as I expected him to be a taxi squad guy all season so either Thompson or Mitts could be ROC.

It's Hall that I don't understand now that I've seen him in RaKru's alleged system. You want an offense-first puck carrier to play with Eichel, except that's Eichel. Now he's on the second line with a slow-footed center, and NOW with Okposo too, rather than Cozens... So he's not being re-signed. Why would he sign here? Which means he's got to get moved.

We're paying the price for our lack of vision.

The Pegulas are throwing Kevyn to the wolves.  He doesn’t have answers. He’s going to get rag dolled.  I hate this team so much.  They do nothing right. None of it.  Every move is the opposite of what it should be.

Kind of similar to when they threw  “outgoing” Bills GM Doug Whaley out there without any answers?
