    Agreed.

I've recently befriended someone in analytics and had a number of good conversations with them on the topic.  This sounds healthier than a lot of arrangements they described in the front offices of professional sports.  They indicated that egos, personality differences, closed-mindedness, ultra-cut-throat internal competition, and general ***** management culture and/or player culture ruin many, many opportunities for positive data-driven growth within franchises.

KA and DG seem like they're committed to building culture first; hopefully a positive culture extends to and within the analytics department.

Unfortunately, it seems that analytics has ruined baseball.  The hitters became focused on launch angles to hit home runs.  Prior to this season, it became a game of home runs and strikeouts.  Now, the change in the baseball has resulted in many of the recent big HR hitters just flying out but also still striking out a lot.  Zzzzzzz!

I think that there's always been a concern about fixing games or spreads. I think legalized gambling increases the likelihood of this occurring more often.  I do enjoy light betting on some games, but it's not a big deal for me.

There might not be as many Guidos out there as in the old days but I think they may just have been replaced by Borises, Serges and representatives of other ethnic groups.

It would be naive to think that there won’t be any issues with games now or in the future.

Can’t stand the non-stop advertising, especially the disingenuous concern for gambling addicts. Who are they kidding? Gambling addicts are their best customers.

Yeah, I subscribed to the NBA League Pass and during timeouts they kept running this ad, which sounded like Ian Eagle talking, about “If you’re going to gamble, do it responsibly.  If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, please seek help”

I thought ‘WTF?’   I don’t know if this is  one you had heard, but this was disingenuous with a capital ‘D’.   Does somebody really think they were doing good with this?

With all of the RJ hype of late, I had fogotten that Ted Darling was pretty good in his own right.  When I watched Ted Darling broadcasts as a kid, I always thought "How does he know that guy is from North Tonawanda?"  Looking back, I realize how funny that was.  What I also remember about Ted was whenever he talked about tall players (Andreychuck, Adam Creighton, etc.) and their "loooong reach."

Back to RJ, he's truly one of the all-time greats and will be missed.  I'll be sad that we won't get to enjoy his calls anymore.  I don't think he's at that point yet, but I lived in Chicago at the end of Harry Caray's career.  For Harry, it was definitely time to hang 'em up.  He was getting players' names wrong (Ryne Sandberg was "Ryan Sandborn" and such) and forgetting basic facts about the game.  I don't think RJ is anywhere near that level of decline, but as others have said, it isn't bad for him to go out close to the top of his game.  We'll miss you, Rick!

You must be talking about the pucks into the crowd.  I was 10 when the Sabres started so I fell for that too.

Caggiula and Bjork I'm done with.  Eakin can go and I hope he does but I could see where he is brought back.  I think we can easily fill his spot.  Butcher is done and I hope Miller is too but he's the one JAG D I could see Adams hanging on to (similar situation to Eakin).

They need Eakin as the designated face off guy.

Congrats to SUNY Geneseo who will be playing in the D3 National Championship game tonight in Lake Placid. They advanced after stomping NE 8-3 yesterday. Tough test tonight against the "big and heavy" Adrian hockey team, who are riding a 30 game win streak. Speed vs. size tonight.

Adrian hockey?  So, is Rocky there?

    ”Yo, Adrian!”

He played over 11 minutes and got hit in hand the second period. There’s no way he missed a period getting hit in the neck.

Golden Knights win, but lose Eichel to injury

Eichel actually experienced two injury scares during this much-needed Golden Knights win.

Earlier in the game, he was slow to get up after seemingly getting his neck/head bumped while he was low on the ice. Eichel was able to hang in there, though.

Later on, Eichel seemed to hurt his arm/hand blocking a shot. While he made a return after quickly leaving the bench, but the Golden Knights held him out through the second period. It’s currently vaguely deemed an upper-body injury.

Jesse Granger reports that Peter DeBoer didn’t have an update directly after the game. To put things mildly, the Golden Knights’ injury list is swelling like a sore wrist or knee.

In one of the twitter threads, it said he took a pretty bad shot with the puck off of his arm.  I didn't see it so I don't know if its true, but it might be an explanation that would be non-neck related.

Earlier in that game he supposedly took a shot around the neck and shoulder and left the game for about a period.

Easy answer is just money. There is not many rinks in Poland to even have a place to begin to play. Poland got pretty crushed during the 2nd world war and then until early 1990's we were under Soviet rule, so rebuilding was a slow process until we got our independence.

Even the soccer team, has had a resurgence in the last 12-14 years, but prior to that they were not good besides in the 1970s when they were a power before money ruled the sport. There was no modern soccer stadiums or facilities until around 2010. Even the first highway in Poland wasn't build until like 2010.

Polish player like Wojtek Wolski who made the NHL recently, grew up in a wealthy family in Poland and moved to Toronto area at a young age where his hockey talents took off.

Most popular sports in Poland: hockey, volleyball and ski jumping.

I don’t know if your line about the popular sports was legit or you were making a joke but the mention of ski jumping made me laugh, and I’m Polish.

It was like:  What do they call leapfrog in Poland?

There is a ridiculous amount of complaining about the announcers in here.  FFS.  That was a great freaking win.  The team is coming together.  They are fun to watch.  They are finally getting respectable goaltending from the old man.  Dahlin is turning into a star.  Cozens brought the thunder again.  They beat Toronto in a national TV outdoor game that wasn’t slowed down due to the elements.

There was so much to like about that game, especially on the heels of the Vegas game.

    That’s what matters.

The Toronto homerism of the studio crew was also ridiculous.   Boohoo, your goaltending sucks!  Who’s this Bizz guy?  Did he play in the NHL?

This was a Buffalo home game at a site about equidistant from Buffalo & Toronto.  They seemed like a Maple Leafs studio crew.
