No doubt... They'll be doing the exact same thing for Seattle too!

It’s been too long to remember, but I think when the Sabres and Canucks joined and for some latter expansion, the expansion pool consisted of like 4th liners, 3rd D pairing, backup or even Minor league goalies.  Also Some older players. Ex: Sabres selected Don Marshall, who was 38.  He did score 20 goals in the Sabres first season.

Why anyone would willingly pay money to go see this sh*tshow of a team covid or not this season is beyond me. You’d get far better use fertilizing your lawn with your shredded money than giving anything to this organization and owners. I haven’t spent $1 on anything Sabre related in the past four years. Smartest decision I’ve ever made. Wish I had done it a few years earlier actually.

And that should be the way to get the attention of the owners and management.

How about, for that first game, nobody shows?  They make this big  deal about fans returning and the arena is still empty. The Sports shows will report this and it should be embarrassing to the owners.

Unfortunately, with the pandemic, they’ll just say people were being health conscious.

I agree, but, were fans, emotionally vested in the team, and that will bring out the inner child temper tantrum in most of us.

I do try to use humor to mask my own disappointment lately, although I have espoused changing both management and the players, a fresh slate.

Is it the analysis of the past 6 or seasons that drives that view I have? Sure, I can admit to that.

Is there a less deconstructing way? Anything is possible. But some of these players will have to be jettisoned to make it happen, again, in my opinion.

Can they petition to be included in the expansion draft with Seattle?  Vegas has maintained a very good team with what they started with in the expansion draft, trades and free agency.

This franchise needs to start over from scratch.

Is it okay if I voted to bury Skinner AND fire Kreuger?

I might agree with the Skinner fans if he'd even come close to playing well when he got that stint on the top line, but he didn't. He's been rubbish.

I don’t expect everyone to read all my rants, especially when they are as unpopular as my opinions on Skinner.

But your stat breakdown fails to properly address Skinner’s first Krueger season by looking at it in linear fashion, the way a new coach would.

    • October: Skinner scores 7 goals in 13 games while getting 18 minutes a game
    • November: Skinner slumps to 3 goals in 14 games, but Krueger keeps playing him 17 minutes a game
    • December: Skinner’s slump continues. He scores once in 12 games putting him on a two-month streak of 4 goals in 26 games, and 11 in a row without scoring before he gets injured in a Dec. 27 game against Boston. Krueger starts cutting his ice time more as the streak continues and he ends up averaging a shade under 16 minutes - still top six minutes - for the month.
    • January: Skinner averages 19 minutes in his two-game return, but is -3 without a point.
    • February: Skinner’s goalless streak grows to 22 games where his stat line reaches 0/3/3/-17 before he finally scores. Skinner’s stat line for the month ends up 3/1/4 at a little over 14 minutes a game.
    • March: Krueger, perhaps encouraged by a brief spark of recent offence, gives him more ice time - 18 minutes a game over 4 games. Jeff responds by going -5 and pointless.

To me it looks like a textbook case of a player who played himself out of his coach’s good graces and then failed to play his way back in. What am I missing?

Good data to show Skinner just hasn’t performed.  Still, I don’t know what putting him on the 4th line accomplishes.

What do you mean by “his huge contract is no longer in play”?  Clearing waivers does not change his contract.

I guess I was thinking of the NFL, without guaranteed contracts, where players become free  agebts if they clear waivers.

I am past critiquing the celebrations.  It’s known around the league that this is not a team that plays with intensity, or emotion, or for one another.  Why that is I don’t know, but clearing out the longest tenured players is a solution and it is painful and it requires a talented and shrewd hockey mind.   Are RK and KA up to the task?

It sure looks like we will end up a bottom 6 team, we will lose Hall (among others) at the trade deadline for picks and prospects, and watch Staal retire.   Then we start over with finding a 2C, a goalie, and more scoring, all while we ponder the salaries of Skinner and Okposso, and what to do with our superstars that aren’t very super - Eichel and Dahlin.

Maybe Staal can pull a Vonte Davis (Bills) and retire in between periods.

Wasted season... maybe Jack's sulking needs to go.  Sabres may need a new captain... someone with some fire and not one who gets sad.  Kid is uber talented but not a leader... I think I'd send him to army basic training for a month.

We thought we were getting that kind of captain with O’Reilly but even he got infected by the suck.

Hahahahaha ... who are the shlubs that think the worst decision in 10 years was drafting Reinhart (the major major consensus at the time) over LD? I think I know who two of them are 😂😂😂

And I’ll never view the tank as one singular action or move. It was multi moves and multi years to achieve.

The Fire Sale at the 2014 trade deadline resulted in the following draft picks and how they were used:

    2014

Two 1sts- own- Reinhardt (already heavily discussed)

Islanders- Isles took advantage of condition of, if Top 10 pick, push to 2015

    2015

    Three 1sts- own- Eichel

Islanders- traded to Ottawa for G Robin Lehner

St Louis- traded to Winnipeg as part of deal for Evander Kane

    2016

One 1st- own-  Alex Nylander: showed signs of development last season with Chicago after being traded for D Henri Jokiharju.

They also received a bunch of 2nd round picks that were mainly used as part of trades (the picks or players drafted) for O’Reilly and Kane

Present Time: out of all of that, the Sabres currently retain an All-Star center in Eichel (who may not want to be in Buffalo any longer), an average Top 6 forward who didn’t pan out as a drafted center, a solid defensemen and a couple bags of pucks.

Overall, a poor use of assets.

Have to go back a year but I think letting Ruff go was a blunder.

Yeah, I’m all for continuity, especially when the winning history was there, but, after 14.5 seasons, it sounded like the players started tuning him out.  Hindsight is 2020, with no playoff appearances since he was fired.

I don't understand the fanfare for the blooper kickoff. If anything, it should have brought a few snickers. This girl is a Division I scholarship soccer player. She should be able to hammer that football. They could have just as easily picked any player from the Vandy roster to kick the ball the way she did and spare us all the fake accolades. I could dress an 80 year old female for a kickoff and make sure she doesn't get hurt just so she can claim she played in a power 5 conference football game. Meanwhile, Patterson has to follow her on the highlights.

Supposedly the trolls of social media gave her more than her share of grief.
