  1. Making disagreements manageable is dependent on the Constitution and the rule of law. The fact that there are perpetual challenges those constructs illustrates that. Disagreements should be difficult, changes to it should be a challenge. That idea was referenced by our founders, so it’s nothing new. It is folly to think that we all need to agree on these matters. That is unrealistic at best. But it’s essential to question our elected leaders and hold them to account. If I offended anyone by bypassing the language filter, I apologize. Sometimes my frustration with the bozo in charge gets to be a bit much. But the least he and his followers can do is remember that he represents not only the maga voters that elected him. Anyone who gets less than 50% of a popular vote can’t claim a mandate and he should respect that. But he insists on running rough shod over the government anyway.
  2. I no longer live under the illusion that most of us live our lives between the 45 yard lines. That may have been the case previously, but it hasn’t been for a long time; not since the advent of the culture wars that would have you believe it’s a battle between “conservative” vs “liberal.” Use to be the big debate was all about revenues and the allocation thereof. Now we argue about trivial crap like what bathroom trans people can use and who can marry whom. And that’s all by design but that’s a different discussion. If extremism means bringing us up to the basic standards of the vast majority of the civilized world, then so be it. So I propose Dems should copy the Western European model and propose policies that provide universal health care and education to the citizenry. Unlike far right radicals, I believe that a healthy, well educated citizenry is essential to our national security. And no, I’m not proposing a socialist system of government, which is what the right starts shouting whenever they hear “universal health care” and “free education.” And yes, that means raising the tax rates of the super wealthy. At a minimum, they should return to pre-Reagan era rates. Dems also need to convince people that the key to these programs is a booming, free-market economy. And it’s utter bull$hit that high taxes on the ultra rich will mean loss of jobs and hurt the economy. That’s supply-side voodoo economics as Bush I would describe it. The key to a booming economy is demand side economics which, ironically, helped to create the greatest middle class in the world and it was post WWII government policies that were the catalyst to that growth. Policies that both Dems and GOP politicians helped to get these programs passed. This is historical fact and it too, is another discussion entirely.
  3. Once the preeminent organization of its kind in the world. IN THE WORLD!!! And we are reducing it to a 3rd world level. All because Donald “we need to stop testing and that way we will have less cases” Trump who won’t let another pandemic derail his administration like COVID 19 did. These morons have made us less secure, less healthy, and more vulnerable in a matter of weeks. So much for MAGA to be proud of.
  4. Lol. I posted the exact same response a half hour ago. Great minds, Punch, great minds indeed.
  5. I’m sure there will be no shortage of rabid fans to replace those of us that don’t give a crap anymore. And good for them as I honestly hope they see the success we’ve wanted to see and enjoy the ride along the way. Ultimately, it’s about the journey which is the only reason I’ve stuck around this long. But until recently, I’ve never felt intentionally lied to and played for a sucker. Getting off the ride has been a liberating experience and I won’t regret it one bit.
  6. Apathy is the right word for it and it’s a lot worse than simply being angry. Anger you can fix but apathy means crossing the threshold into simply not giving a crap one way or the other and that is much a more difficult challenge for Pegula to correct. And I’ve been there since the second time they blew a three or four goal lead (I forget exactly) vs. Colorado. I know at least a dozen ST holders who feel the same way and they aren’t coming back, either.
  7. Dems need to grow a pair and stop being afraid of losing the middle. We’ve been pulled so far to the right over the last 45 years, there is no middle anymore, anyway. For crissakes, republicans like Goldwater, Nixon, Kemp, Dole, etc. would be considered left of center nowadays. Dems need to show the far right what a far left really looks like and propose policies that reflect what people actually demand of their government. Old school Dems simply have to go.
  8. My mutiny has nothing to do with Pegula doing something to fix the team or not. My mutiny is beyond repair at this point. He’s played me for a sucker for too long and even if he fixed everything overnight and wins a cup next year, I will NOT renew my season tickets, I will NOT buy individual game tickets, and I will NOT spend another dime on merchandise. He doesn’t give a flying F about me as a decades long ST holder and won’t be sorry that I won’t renew.
  9. Say what we want about Cruise being a jerk in real life or not, but there is no disputing he has legit acting chops as his work in Born On the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia illustrates.
  10. If there is one person that Pegula loves more than KA, it’s Lindy. One can hope I guess.
  11. Lindy knows what’s needed to construct a competitive hockey team. Kick him upstairs to president in charge of hockey ops and let him hire a gm who also knows what it takes. But I wonder if Lindy would even want to do that at this point.
  12. The new stadium overages have been offset and then some by the equity sale of the Bills alone and Pegula doesn’t need a dime of Sabres money to meet his cost overrun obligations for the new stadium. I think he simply doesn’t give a crap about the Sabres, simple as that.
  13. UPL is a 25-30 game backup NHL goalie. He is capable of hot streaks but also capable of cold streaks. He lacks stamina to be a full time starter and I attribute his poor mechanics on fatigue due to overuse. This idea that he is simply a victim of the poor play in front of him is just an excuse. Yes, the play in front of him outright sucks and we need better players, but two things can be true at once: our defensive play sucks and UPL isn’t good enough, either. Just not enough key saves vs. wide open looks at opposing shooters. And his lateral movement is a liability as well. We need a bonafide NHL starter between the pipes and Levi ain’t ready yet and needs another full year in the A, imo.
  14. That would be two things about Ottawa.
  15. He won’t get the support required by the rest of Congress. But Hawley’s point about packing the courts with more conservative judges is a reality. It’s shameful that Hawley used the term “republican judges.”
  16. And yet another move out of the 1930s German playbook. Unphuckingbelievable. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/speaker-mike-johnson-floats-eliminating-federal-courts-rcna197986 These fascists need to be stopped.
  17. Held for no other reason than spite by this phucking racist, fascist phuck who is mad at Canada. We are rapidly becoming the laughing stock of the free world because of this cheeto toddler in the oval office.
  18. Disgusting. Can anyone show me a pic of a caucasian being held by ICE?
  19. I only switched to the Sabres at halftime of the St. John’s/ Arkansas game. March Madness will always be my favorite sporting event anyway.
  20. Join the club. It’s been a very liberating experience. Watching them with total detachment is much more healthy.
  21. There is no federal domestic terrorism statute. In 2022, the House passed the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, but it died in the Senate. Ironically, it was filibustered by Senate Republicans. I think we all know why.
  22. I’m glad you qualified that. There are two alternatives to progression: stagnation and regression. Neither are healthy for a democracy.
