  1. I agree with both Free and Taro here. It’s also important to note that the spirts landscape is sure to be different, at least in the short term. I have read articles were at least three teams have admitted to being in a “cash” crunch and not “small market” teams. I’m talking teams in SF, Houston and New York. In addition, municipalities are going to be in a financial crisis and even less likely to foot the bill for trivial things like sports teams and stadia.
  2. And if it was all about the money they could have saved $15-20 million this year and you could argue the on ice results would have been the same. They spent way over the cap this year. There are two simultaneous arguments going on here. If the question is, has the team been good, then the answer is obviously no. If the question is are they committed to building a winner and do they have the financial wherewithal, I believe the answer is yes.
  3. A) I’m not defending the Pegulas, just making a point against all this doom and gloom about their solvency. B) You are right, the team’s performance has been terrible, but again, I was just commenting on the business viability. C) In a quarantined society, with a top writer and twitter presence soliciting their responses, I know most of them saw it. D) if you don’t think that disgruntled employees want to talk about it, you have not been looking at employer reviews closely. People I respect, like and yes, even Love were part of layoffs and furloughs. Some of them upset, some of them understanding. Tim Graham did his usual solid job with the article. John Vogl showed his pettiness with some of his tweets. I’ve been among the most disappointed by the results of the team as well as the game day presentation. However, I still don’t question their commitment and I am hopeful that the moves they are making will make more sense once normalcy returns, whenever that will be.
  4. 30 people out of about a thousand that have worked for them the last two years isn’t 30%. And Graham has been taking messages for four days. I’m surprised at the low mumber
  5. Thirty people, mostly fired or self serving employees out of a few hundred. I challenge you to find a work place that has a less percentage of disgruntled empliyees
  6. I’m actually pretty surprised that everyone seems to be so negative about this. 1) it was naive wording it as “maintaining their lifestyle” but it’s the goal of every business owner. The point of incorporating is to make sure fluctuations in business don’t effect your personal wealth. 2) anyone who was there at the beginning will tell your the first few years were run without regard to profit. That is unsustainable no matter how wealthy you are. 3) they have made mistakes, their admitting their mistakes and they are actively correcting them. 4) if they really wanted to save money they would have vetoed at least a couple of JNOT’s moves which would probably have been a good idea. The sky isn’t falling. Relax.
  7. I’m not sure if this is elsewhere but Grigorenko signs with Columbus.
  8. Again, I know most don’t remember but Roger Crozier was unbelievable till stomach issues did him in. I believe Miller was number two because of Crozier’s limited tenure but after that Barasso, Puppa, Edwards and Sauve were all about on the same level in my opinion.
  9. Anyone can sell tickets when things are good. I’m not sure about scope of #3. My point is just that you can make the case for the firings without all the drama and assuming facts not in play.
  10. While we can all speculate on their cash reserves, and we all have an opinion on why their standing in the community is where it’s at, can we agree on 1) their ticket sales suck 2) their media relations suck 3) the live experience at the arena sucks They fired the head of ticket sales.(1) They fired the head of media relations(2) They fired the head of live events(3) Most everyone else was furloughed(guaranteed their job) or asked to take a temporary pay cut(common across basketball and hockey)
  11. No, as far as I know they’ve been assured they will be paid on time dependent on NHL and NHLPA negotiations. Players pay is a league issue, really is irrelevant to this discussion.
  12. Players will be paid but I’m not sure if NHLPA made a final decision with regards to taking it or foregoing it in lieu of escrow.
  13. They are correcting some past mistakes within some of their other companies but they have remain committed to letting their sports franchises spend as needed. They could have easily tied JBOT’s hands and not let him spend anywhere near what they let him spend.
  14. I should have wrote “would look better.” In other words, who knows? Let’s not pencil him in till he proves it.
  15. A) I think the cap space thing is a little overblown B) Asplund would look good as the 3LW/ 4C. Again, it’s what good teams do. You slowly move guys in and if they overachieve, great!
  16. I’m worried you may be right about and I agree with your original post. Larsson is the kind of guy that good teams keep and I think he will be even better on a team with a true 2C.
  17. I actually had a Dudley 17 jersey. I’m sure there is a lot of “lore” as to why he left but I know Punch regretted not keeping him. He was a lot like Dumont in that he brought more to the team then numbers.
  18. I know one of the other ones but not sure how to do the spoiler thing.
  19. Larry Hillman Tim Horton Lee Fogolin Tracey Pratt Jerry Korab Reggie Flemming Brian Spenser I’m sure th year had a few hits lost in a time where TV stations taped over other games not understanding that any of us would want to seen them again.
  20. I think he might be. He is presently considered one of top free agents available. He’s had a couple good years in KHL.
  21. OMG, a VO-Strome-Sam line would get lit up against a team like Colorado. They might be the slowest line in the league. Someone brought up Grigirenko. You could get him for nothing and I think he’d be a better acquisition.
  22. I don’t know, a 29 year old Gil Perreault, Danny Gare scoring 56, Rick Martin 44, Luce and Ramsey, a youth infusion with Ric Seiling, McKegney and Derek Smith, Edwards and Sauve. A defense core that added Mike Ramsay after the Olympics. The 79/80 team was third in goals and first in goals against and easily won the first two series. If only the Islanders waited another year to start their dynasty.
  23. Just wanted to let everyone know that I am alive and well. Unfortunately, one of the little known pieces of the early years of this franchise has passed. RIP.
  24. The cap might remain flat but no way it goes down $12 million even if revenues reflect that.
  25. Like I said in the past, I’d really like them to concentrate on speed but if they can’t come up with a better option......
