  1. You make plenty of assumptions. Nobody is trading more for Watkins then a high 2nd round pick if he has another year on his deal. As for Gilmore, that didn't work for Carolina and they ended up looking petty for tying up Norman until most teams spent their money. As for taking on Darius' cap hit, if they so choose they will have plenty of room to absorb hit as cap is expected to continue to rise and the Bills are already in pretty good shape next year. As for the rest, I still feel there is no benefit to completely gutting roster. Football is not like other sports. Top 10 picks are still a gamble and completely scorching your roster will take years to redo.
  2. You are so funny. I can find clips of Reid talking about Kolb and Folks the same way. What makes him a QB guru? His GM picked McNabb and he's spent the last ten years looking for his "next" one. Maybe he finally got it right, maybe not but so far PM hasn't done anything that countless flame outs before him have done.
  3. Just read another article detailing how bad the NFL is at identifying QB's. If only they could hire our resident expert.
  4. The point you seem to miss is that the role of GM has changed drastically over the years and even within that change every organization views it differently. Beane has surrounded himself with former head scouts and past GM's. His roll may be that of the administrator absorbing the information, studying the analytics and leading the ship. It's not like he has no football background.
  5. That implies that most users want fluff pieces which I would vehemently disagree with.
  6. So let's see, whose opinion should we take more seriously, Greg Gabriel or Jeff the Magic Man? Just another NFL insider who understands and approves of what the Bills are doing.
  7. Wood and Williams are back because those are the kind of leaders they are building around. Wood's extension is market value. Tyron is way belie market value and hardly a pr move, in fact precisely a Bill B move getting a starter to come back for half the money he was supposed to earn.
  8. It's not.
  9. They are not being dishonest. They have not gone full tank mode yet. What have they done to tank? Sammy wasn't hear most of the year. Darby was awful last year. They changed the defense to better fit the personnel and have returned as many as 7 of 11 starters of last year's 10th best offense.
  10. I still haven't heard from anyone wanting last ticket. If I don't by Friday I will ask eleven if I can cash his check and not solicit anymore people until I come up with more tickets.
  11. Therein lies the problem, you never really know until they have to do the job. I can tell you people that work with the team on a daily basis have, without solicitation, talked about how different the players are behaving when outside the public view. McDermott, in spite of what is portrayed in this board, has been viewed as a coach in waiting for a couple of years. His attention to detail and his unwavering belief to do things his way without backing down is seen as Belichek-esque. Reporters from Philadelphia and Carolina talk about how he has that presence, that command of the room. Beane, I haven't heard as much about but the fact that he hired two well respected people that would be candidates for his job tell me all I need to know. Again, there is no way of knowing if any of it is different. History shows that there are no past experiences that predict future success. I still believe a lot of it is really beyond anyone's control. New England makes as many personnel mistakes as anyone but as long as they have TB, no one talks about it.
  12. But who says it's going to be crappy. They been basically a 9-7,8-8 the last three years. With any kind of defense the last two years they would have made the pkayoffs. They haven't list anyone that was a key contributor last year and have added Lawson and White and put their entire defensive front in a position to succeed. On top of that, they added three high picks next year and another in two years. They also will be in a great cap position next year.I understand all the negativity. I also realize this team could implode this year. There is a real chance that they trade Shady if some team becomes desperate. They would love to dump Darius but likely can't. We will see but I'm telling you, good times could be around the corner. There is a real belief they hit a Homerun with this coachi and GM. I know that ultimately that's what we all want.
  13. The Bills were 10th in the league on scoring last year, but yeah, chronic inability works.
  14. Can't argue with any of that except that there are several levels of bad. Some are bad and learning, others over their head but I stll maintain that none are undisciplined. Check how and when all those points were scored before hanging your hat on that stat. Also, the team did score 57 points in their first two regular season games despite the first team offense doing nothin in preseason.
  15. First that's an incredible leap and incorrect. Second, his only role with respect to Beane was to give his opinion after he was on a short list. I know it won't matter but I'm going to say this. The Pegulla's very much wanted these two hires to be right and consulted several owners before having a list put together. There is no way of knowing how it will turn out but history shows us there is little to know correlation between past success ir experience and future success. You got guys like Mike Tomlin coming out of nowhere, Bill Belichek coming off of a first time failure and you have Andy Reid seemingly reliving his past success. As someone who has had to interview and hire people I can tell you that you usually know the minute you talk to the right person. One thing that looks encouraging to me is the incredible front office staff that they put together. Time will tell but the only certainty is that the past three games have nothing to do with predicting future results. Actually, the Bills have started several of the past 20 seasons very well. The finish, not do much.
  16. Undisciplined is the most overused explanation when discussing penalties. Teams become good when they don't have to think. Teams make mistakes when they are learning a new system or being put into situations they are unfamiliar with. That's a much more likely explanation unless your only agenda is to dismiss coach and GM cause you didn't like the hiring process. Penalties as a whole are terribly overrated anyway. The best teams in the league usually lead the league in them.
  17. It's clear you have no clue about what's going on if you think Brandon has anything to do with what's going on with Bills since he was named president of Pegula PSE. They have opened three restaurants, a hotel, bought numerous buildings, are discussing major renovations to the Arena and traveling the globe studying different stadia. He would have to clone himself to do anymore then be kept informed about football ops.
  18. It happens all the time. When the Bills were good people would scream about how bad they were in preseason and how it would effect them when the season started. Marv Levy had the best September record in spite of that. I really don't have the time or desire to go and find recent examples but you can look up teams that have killer pre-season records that translate into nothing and vice versa. It means absolutely nothing.
  19. It still amazes me that in spite of an avalanche of historical references to study, people still put in any stock at all in pre-season.
  20. Can't argue the results, just too early to tell the doubters they are wrong. This year should be definitive. Schedule a lot tougher and big expectations.
  21. I was just being a jerk but the point remains, as long as criteria for Tyrod is that he is only good enough to get into playoffs and lose, then anyone without a win is unproven.
  22. The stat I care about is playoff success since that seems to be why those that want TT replaced draw their line. "He might be able to sneak in but he'll never win!" A lot of guys can put up Dalton numbers but is it any different if they can't win in January and February?
  23. Not saying I disagree other then that I would choose Marriotts but people we both respect have said otherwise. Maybe it's the David Carr effect, who knows.
  24. I don't know about that. If he has Gannon's smarts with his athleticism then Callaway is right, he'd be top 5.
