  1. No. That's almost assuredly not the case. The WHL was supposedly his second choice. Only about 30% of NHL players played in college...

Not really sure what that has to do with anything. Isn't that more than go to Europe first? And given the overall numbers, isn't 30% just about right in line?

  2. i certainly don't read it that way. i have plenty of respect for Paul Hamilton, and that he can't get this is an indication that there is also a script and plan in place.

    Interesting.

And not to get in the middle of a lovers spat, but this is exactly the kind of thing that Ghost has been warning against for a while now, all while getting ridiculed by others for needing a sturdier tinfoil hat. Just sayin'.

  3. as just noted on a certain social media site, a certain local radio -- and sabres -- flagship station finds itself in a very tough spot with its relationship with the team. how wgr is citing "reports" of a deal being "close," and has done very little of it's own reporting overnight on this is a bad look and sound. to know and not report because of partnership rules certainly dents reputation.

If I had to guess, it probably has to do with all of the "reports" of a deal being "close" with Babcock that turned out to be not all that close.

  4. Eh, they'll drop off some naturally soon between the cap crunch next year and Hossa's age (I'm assuming he will, at some point, prove to be human).

Don't think anyone can argue that

Hossa is something special. I always thought he was really good, but never realized just how much. This years playoffs has really showed me something. His game is so understated, but he is never not a part of the play if he is on the ice.

  5. I'm so happy this is going to game 7. Partially because I love Chicago, but also because a game 7 between these two teams is gonna be freakin' awesome.

More hockey, as opposed the less hockey, is always a good thing,... I mean,... unless you are talking about the Sabres this year.

  6. New toys are awesome.

I managed to convince the wife to let me buy another smoker.  Our son graduates from high school in June.  We're hosting the party in our backyard, and of course, we're catering it ourselves.  We're billing it as Porkapalooza.  And, conveniently enough, the old smoker isn't big enough to do this without multiple cook sessions and lots of freezer bags.  So, seems like a good time to convince the wife that an upgrade in size is in order. Bought a Brinkmann vertical smoker.  The cooking chamber is 20" in diameter and 50" tall.  5 shelves.  She should hold 10 pork shoulders easily.  It's got meat hooks on the top to hang sausages or hams, so I got that in my future.  And I purchased an aftermarket gasket and latch kit to improve the seal.  Can't wait to light her up this weekend.

No way weave isn't woken up by this sound soon

    It might even be me.

  7. Agreed.  I wasn't trying to say all posters suck or anything like that.  But how would one know just reading through random posts.  I would postulate that 99% of Pens posters didn't know that his d zone puck retrievals were something of an oddity and were eventually copied around the league.   His traditional system had the 1D go get the puck and the 2D be close by for an immediate pass.  Normal retrievals have 1D get the puck and 2D skate behind the net or near the far circle for an outlet safety pass.  Part of Bylsma's philosphy is to get the puck out of the zone asap so the big horses can skate with it.

I agree as well, you dont accomplish those things by having one rigid system that you refuse to change at all costs.  I thought he really blew it in the Olympics not bc of X's and O's as much as giving Orpik way too much ice against top lines on the big ice. He just trusted him too much.

That sounds and awful lot what the Sabres were doing during the 05-07 run. So, Bylsma copied that from Lindy, then?

  8. That was my idea. One dollar more. Just to eff you everyone — and to boost Bylsma and shoot down the idea we "settled" for "second best." Do it, Terry. Do it. Race him!

Let's just hope they get cable TV and Amazon on the internets in Buffalo by the time we hire him so his wife has all the conveniences of that big city life.

  9. You said it yourself, you'd move "back." It's always an easier decision to come home. Babcock is not from Buffalo. If you had a choice between Calgary and New York City would you seriously move to Calgary? I doubt many WNYers, if any, would.

To be angry with Mike Babcock or his family because they decided on Toronto over Buffalo is a waste of energy and really seems silly. It's time to put all this

"whoa is us" BS behind us. It's not hard to understand why to Mike Babcock decided that Toronto is the greater challenge why his family would feel that Toronto as a city offers them more. What is there to mad about? 5 years ago I doubt Mike Babcock would give the Sabres anything more than a courtesy interview ala Mike Shanahan. The Sabres lost out to the greater challenge, no shame in that.

I certainly don't have a woe is me attitude. I live in NYC. I could easily say that it has way more to offer than Buffalo. I don't believe it does, though. It's the same chit everywhere. Now, if Mrs Babs and Babs himself said that they wanted to "go back home", then that's fine, but don't tell me it's because TO offers them something they couldn't get from Buffalo. That's why I think he is full of sh!t.
  10. Nobody would ever choose another location over Buffalo if they're informed and smart, eh?

I live in the NYC for one reason, money. If I could make the same money in WNY I'm moving back. Period. I'd even take less money. There is nothing I can get here that I can't get in WNY, except for maybe lines thare are a lot longer and more a-holes. Thjis isn't the 1700s FFS.

And the funny thing is, it probably takes me longer to get into the city to be able to take advantadge of all the "benefits" of a big city than it would for her to go to TO and take advantage of it.

Babs can use his wife for and excuse if he wants to, but I will never buy that he didn't always want the TO gig and used Buffalo to maximize his dough. F him and his wife.

  11. My closest friend is a huge gamer.  His kids are, too.  Basically, they all play together--except his wife, who just hangs out and watches the rest of them.  They don't watch TV; they play TV instead.  In the words of my Godson, "we're a video game family."

It's a little weird to me, but, hey, works for them.

    Sorry, man, I've no idea.

Took an hour of sleuthing but I found it. Vanguard.

  12. I really wonder if the fact that coaches like Murray described (Nolan) being gone from the NHL are the reason we are getting the kind of hockey that everyone has been complaining about. When every play is analyzed down to the smallest detail, and every player is analyzed down to the smallest tendency, when everyone is coached to do the right thing on every play, doesn't it make sense that the only outcome left is the flukey goal?
