  1. Eid al-Fitr.

Ramadan ended at sunset today with confirmed sightings of the crescent new moon.

I miss Ramadan already.  When it ends it's a bit of a let down in a way.

Eid prayers are tomorrow morning and we celebrate for three days.

It's good to be back, but am not sure how much time I'll have over the next few days to read and catch up.

Thanks to all for the good wishes and I will try to address them in the coming days.

    So, did I miss much?

    Salam / Peace.

    Good to have you back.

  2. Today, a song came on the Ipod (Classic) randomatizor from an album I was really into for a while. Now this song is stuck.

Parts would make a good goal or entry song.

... might have to steal it.

  3. I just don't get recent college grad job hunters.  I graduated in 2006, and did everything the career folks at my school told me to.  I don't get these kids nowadays.  They bitch about not being able to find a job, yet the people I've interviewed for an entry-level sales position just don't get it.  They do nothing to try and stand out, have resumes filled with spelling and formatting errors, and don't follow directions.

I specifically ask for a cover letter, yet most don't submit one.  I had one kid tell me they're "not necessary anymore."  I explained to him that the whole reason we ask for one is to see what kind of writing skills an applicant posses.  Is it cut and paste or original? Can they sell themselves? By not even submitting one it shows you can't follow directions.  When I explained this to him he just looked at me and said, "oh."

With three of them I came away from the interview feeling "meh."  Not bad, but no wow factor. They easily could have gained some favor with a simple thank you email.  Nothing, so they stay in the "meh" pile.

We've been advertising the position since mid-May, and I've had two out of maybe 20 candidates that did what I expect a serious applicant to do (I offered the job to one of them, but he chose another offer).  The other one I met with yesterday, and while her personality was spot on, again, her resume was replete with spelling errors (a graduate of one of the SUNY schools FWIW).

This whole process just leaves me baffled and wanting to band my head against a wall.

I find this somewhat ironic.

  4. You may well be right with the other groups, but not police. Makes no diff. to the officer how often you have been charged. Paper work does not get any lighter, we do not get a bonus for repeaters, nothing to be gained. And I, too, miss the days of no damage/injury - we take your keys and drop you at home. The people that ruined that are those that wouldn't stay home after being dropped off.

    No OT for court dates?

J/K. When I read this again this morning I thought the same thing. Could probably add judges as well. You're just administering the laws put in front of you.

  5. What's your point? Drunk driving still lead to 9,000 people dying. If bad decisions weren't made, the 2,000 not drinking would still be alive and the 7,000 drinking and driving would also still be alive. Poor decision making led to the death of 9,000 people. That's why countless groups are against drunk driving. They're not just thinking about those killed by a drunk driver.

If a sober driver kills a drunk pedestrian, that is an alcohol related traffic death. Just sayin'.

The only reason this is such a big deal is because a bunch of puritanical mothers got together and formed some political power. Don't get me wrong, drunk driving was an issue that had to be addressed, but the pendulum has swung way to far in the other direction.

Putting a scarlet DD on someone over a .08 is ridiculous. when the average BAC for incidents is .18, is ridiculous. The only reason the limit is so low is money. It is a huge revenue generator for all involved, the _ADD groups, lawyers, judges, police, insurance cos. Believe me, they want you to get that first DUI. Their livelihoods depend on it.

  6. At least Patty was smart enough to get in a cab.

Has anyone ever tried to take a cab not in the city of New York? I have. It's a f'n joke. It usually takes an hour for them to get there, if they show up at all. Hopefully Uber will cut down on these type of incidents. Although, not sure there will be a surplus of drivers at 4am when they are needed the most.

  7. Ink, good.  Love ya.

Can't some other people post in here?  Wow, what a ###### day for me.  And everything Bills and Sabres is coming up ######, too.

It's like we're sailing into a ###### typhoon, Randy, so we'd better haul in the jib before we get covered in ######.

I need more positive stories from you people today.

It's awesome that I didn't have to go to the ER yesterday. My daughter cut a three inch gash on her Achilles on the corner of our aluminum screen door. It was frickin deep and gushing, but some quick triage, with some gauze, tape, bacitracin, tape, a sock, and some more tape, all while my wife sat on her to keep from kicking me, stopped the bleeding. It looked pretty good this morning.

Sorry, I guess it's all relative. My "awesome" is probably more like "not entirely awful" to most. It was actually a pretty good weekend.

  8. An old guy takes a swing at a kid for stealing his stuff.A Canadian kid has a few beers and run into a T-HO.An American drunk kid tweets a porn star to hook up.Welcome to the big happy normal dysfunctional family.Have non of you people ever been to a family reunion? Who's the crazy uncle that no body talks about is the real question?

Frank Zappa said that life is like high school with money. The proliferation of social media has made this painfully obvious.
