If the rumors are false, the Sabres aren't doing themselves any favors by keeping Jack hidden away. If they're true, his disappearance makes perfect sense.

That's quite a stereotype. What percentage of young people do you think do drugs? Are we counting pot? I don't think a majority of young people even smoke pot, at least according to reputable surveys I've seen, let alone hard stuff.

For the purposes of sports entertainment, there's Hall the player and Hall the person. I bet even the athletes recognize the difference and don't take much offense to the sometimes vicious attacks on them. It's theater, mostly. Otherwise, no one could ever yell, "Kill the ump!"

Thanks. That does change my thinking on him a little bit. It makes me wonder why he hasn't gotten a shot in the NHL before now. I'd still treat him as a candidate after the season as if he never got the interim job here. I don't put much weight on these games. I think that adds up to Granato shouldn't be a serious candidate.

Good point on practice time. The other anomaly I wonder about is when was the last time someone coached a Sabres game to win it — serious video study of the opponent, giving the team a specific game plan for a specific opponent, the nuances of matching lines, strategy and tactics and all that, etc. I could be way off. But it just feels like we've been in this bizarro world of evaluating talent, establishing theoretical systems, building a culture and so on. Maybe I just miss the playoffs, when winning is the only thing.
