  1. We get people asking in the middle of a giant thunder storm if that loud boom sound was gunshots.
  2. It feels like the first time since that initial group of hirings (Craig Patrick and others) where he has actually tried to bring in outside help.
  3. It’s not, but with a new and inexperienced owner, it’s an understandable approach. That’s all I’m saying.
  4. I really thought they were going to focus on that “senior” side a bit more and go with an older advisor trying to step back a bit. Scotty Bowman did that a bit once he finally stopped GMing. Granted, a lot of that was for his son. But that’s pretty clearly not what this is. At 58, he’s only 8 years older than Adams. This is a guy who should have a good number of miles left on those tires. I’d love to be a fly on that wall and hear some of these discussions.
  5. Housely was a coach on the rise, at least. He was going to get that shot somewhere very soon. Boterill is a ridiculous stretch. That would be the equivalent of being nostalgic over that one random peanut butter sandwich you had back when you were 6. I lump Nolan and LaFontaine together in my mind since it all happened together. That one at least makes sense as you’re just taking over the team and you want to try to show this connection to the fans. The rest up until last summer, I really don’t see it as them going out of their way to hire ex-Sabres. If that was the case, Perreault would have been wooed to some ambassador position or something.
  6. I think you’re forgetting Ted Nolan.
  7. Weren’t they a top 10 scoring team that closed very strong that last year before the lockout? That would definitely count as a significant move towards offense And then, yeah, they blew up after that. It’s crazy how much goal scoring went up those first few years after the lockout. I’m too lazy to look it up and see if anyone has topped 300 goals since we did it in 06-07.
  8. Are you just messing with me by not actually changing anything?🤔
  9. He has the cushiest job on the face of the earth. If they fail, it’s Adams fault. Any success and he gets credit.
  10. I don’t think anyone in the organization actually thinks that. You don’t hire a senior advisor to learn the ropes. The title says it all, they want experience. And I also don’t think this team is going the POHO route. They’ve shown no interest over the years in doing that, and quite frankly, I think it’s a fake position anyway. I’d imagine over half of the league doesn’t even have one.
  11. If that was the plan, why not just do it now? The only answer I can think of is that they need to hire Jarmo quickly before he gets away. But still, if that’s the case, just make the changes right now. Edit: And I just now saw Brawndo’s post from Harrington. That could potentially answer my question.
  12. I think the comments on reporting to Adams are a bit overblown. This isn’t a position where Adams is going to be ordering him around. He’s a sounding board… “hey, maybe you should hold out for a little more than just a second round pick”.
  13. One of those random rumors when everyone was throwing things at the wall a month or so back was that Appert would take on a bigger role. Maybe he is a better fit as a talent evaluator and not behind the bench. Not that I see any world where Adams is still calling the shots, but I don’t think that Appert would be the guaranteed head coach on the Adams ship.
  14. I really hope they threw a curveball with that one and Kelly was cast as faith.
  15. I know we like to crap on Appert, but Leone is more than likely not here without him. They coached together with the USNDT. He’s been Alpert’s successor twice now. You better believe that he had a lot of input on that hire.
  16. So what’s the alternative, that they’re happy with the direction of the team?
  17. What do politics have to do with whether or not JJ Peterka wants to be a sabre?
  18. Can I get a translation on the text in that one?
  19. God save us all when the inevitable shipping warehouse explosion happens.
  20. Chicago is a bottom 3 team in the league and next year's draft has a mega-prospect in McKenna. The blackhawks are not risking that high percentage lottery ticket for JJ Peterka.
  21. The guy who doesn't live locally wasn't present for exit interviews. Gee, I wonder where he was.
  22. Options aren’t a thing in the NHL. It would be a cap nightmare, recapture penalties all over the place.
  23. He didn’t have to stay. He’s unrestricted and would be free to sign anywhere in the league in July. This woe is me “because buffalo” response to every single thing needs to stop. A marginal European talent decided to go back to Europe. He’s not leaving Buffalo, he’s leaving the entire NHL.
  24. He’s unrestricted. The Sabres have no control after July 1.
  25. That pesky little thing called the CBA prevents that.
