Not necessarily, players can be placed on IR retroactively. So, this just means that he'll necessarily miss the Filly game. They don't play in LA until Wednesday (9 days after the Habs game) so even getting IR'd if Tage is good to go by then he can be activated. And Ruff doesn't seem to be happy with Aube-Kubel, so Kulich gets the call-up.

OK, so Krebs goes back to the 4th line. But does Kulich center the 3rd line? Know that technically Kulich is a C, but he hasn't played there at the NHL level. Do they keep Krebs 3rd line C and bump either Quinn or Kulich onto the 4th line with Lafferty at C there? Does anybody other than the 4 guys that have been seeing time at C besides Thompson have C in his NHL past? We seem to be looking at a 3C - 9W situation. (Which doesn't QUITE work.) Am presuming that Aube-Kubel is the odd man out and not Quinn. (Not sure if that's a great call, but A-K is the 1st guy to have his butt stapled to the bench when the bench shortens and Quinn is, for now, on the top PP unit.)

In hindsight, yeah, the deal doesn't look good and good call on not liking it at the time. But still don't see that deal handcuffing them in any way for at least another 2 seasons if even then. And still prefer the idea of locking the guys up that they see as being part of the "future core" sooner than later. Especially knowing as we do now that they aren't going to be legit fishers in the FA pond. They simply need to be better at identifying WHICH guys will legitimately be key components. (And trading Savoie away indicates that they MIGHT be getting better at doing so. (No need to look at the Mittelstadt trade for tea leave pondering. 😉 ))

Because with $8MM or so in available cap space and his contract only being ~$5MM they can't realistically get to a point at present to even get any cap help from BF-LTIR. And, as much as it would be a great thing to have some player(s) brought in to make the cap an actual constraint on the roster wherein his next injury could bring some relief through that mechanism; am not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.

And THAT is part of the GM's job too. If he strongly believes a certain move will help the team either today or down the road (or ideally both), he needs to make the case to his boss strongly enough that the boss comes around to agree with making the move. IF he is getting vetoed (and people that have credibility have implied it if not outright claimed it) then he needs to improve his communication and persuasion skills. We ALL need for him to be better at that or we need somebody else in the role. (And personally still see the playoffs as very much a possibility if not actually kinda likely.)

Yup. We're entering "evil genius" AND "dumbest GM EVAH" territory. (But as long as Gord Stellick and Garth Snow aren't scrubbed from history, at absolute worst he can only be 3rd from the bottom. And that's not even including all the late 60's and 70's GMs that thought trading with Sam Pollock could somehow work out for them.)

Pretty sure he's been on Anaheim's roster for more than 30 days; if so, no they don't have dibs on him.

That stinks. May he RIP. Prayers and condolences to his family.

Personally, would like to see the offsides review remain, but give the refs/linesmen a 1 minute time limit (or maybe even 30 seconds or 40-45) to decide if it's onsides or not. If they can't tell in that much time, then its "inconclusive" and the play stands as called. The rule is there to take away blatent goal hanging and to force guys to actually play hockey to get scoring chances. It isn't there to intentionally make a low scoring sport significantly even more low scoring.

That lot's been where we park since literally the 90's. Stupid easy access back to the Kensington and Ra-cha-cha after the game and also the Union Pub before heading back. Fun game. But so tired of getting 31 reffing our games. He's done at least 4 home games so far and he is not good. Waiting until Calgary scored to call the wrestling match outside the Sabres blue line was par for the course. Had Gilbert not been pinned there, there would've been a D covering the left side of the zone and clearing the puck away after UPL's initial save. That guy is a joke and we seem to get stuck with 13 often too. (Pretty sure that's his 3rd game in Buffalo.) Don't they make these guys travel the full league footprint anymore? -
Which is more credence to the belief that they SHOULD be a playoff team when all is said and done, but will be hard pressed to be in the division's top 3 and with any sustained lack of focus at all can easily miss the dance once again.

GDT: Ottawa Senators @ Buffalo Sabres 7 PM ESPN+, MSG

Fork it; they have to win again sometime. Why not tonight? Go, go, Buf-fa-lo!!!! PS - hadn't noticed before, but Freddy even has a prehistoric rudimentary Buffalo Sabres logo on his hat! -
Don't believe there's an exact time spelled out. It's when the ball is stationary and nobody is making an effort to make a play on it.
-
That game wasn't on Levi.
-
A big blank? What had you posted?
-
Why not ask Blandino (who actually knows the rules) or the other guy (Pererria?). Steratore is usually good for getting it wrong. As to why the refs would pick up a live ball they'd ruled a fumble? If no player from either team goes to pick it up, they will blow the play dead. (I.e., if both teams treat it like a dead ball, the refs will deem it to be a dead ball.) And, at that point, the ball goes back to the Jest at the point they last had possession of it.
-
Not sure what you're getting at with the bolded. As you'd said earlier, the ball did roll slowly out of the end zone and it was a touchback for Houston at that point. Were you referring to the playoff game in Houston and just misselected which portion of the quote you were responding to? Yep. And you can't advance a fumble that's intentionally kicked or batted, but the refs decided (correctly IMHO) that Allen's kicking the ball was accidental. (Had he not kicked it, he likely would've recovered it himself several yards back from where his teammate eventually recovered it.)
-
Not sure about being smarter, that's probably the case but not positive about that; but when he finally learned to skate (not at an elite level, but good for a big man) he became a perennial AS. He was SOOOOOO awkward when he 1st came up w/ the Aisles.
-
You can advance a fumble in general. You can't advance one in the final 2 minutes nor on 4th down unless the fumbling player is the one recovering it.
-
Presuming the ball stays in the end zone: If the Texasses recovered it, the ball would've been theirs at their 20. If the Jest recovered, it would've been a touchdown. If nobody bothered to recover it, the ball would've been the Jest and placed at the point of the fumble (roughly the 1 yard line). If it didn't stay in the end zone: As it actually rolled out of the endzone, it ended up a touchback for the Texasses. Their ball at their 20. Had it come back into the field of play and been recovered, it would've been the recovering team's ball at the spot of recovery. Had it come back into the field of play and gone out of bounds, it would've been spotted where it went out and whichever team (most likely the Jest) that had last controlled it would have possession. That covers MOST of the ways the play could have played out. And, had they been playing against the Bills with the ball going out of bounds or the Bills recovering, some jackhole that wasn't an actual in-game ref would've come over to the refs to tell the refs that the Jest player MEANT to score a TD so just give it to them.😡

Didn't say Adams should go get him. Said he was believed to have been in on him and wondered if he still was and what Anaheim would make him give up to land him. This thread says Adams wants to "add." Well, Zegras was a guy he wanted to add earlier. And right now, that is a player type that he has not added to the mix. (He has a bunch of guys in the wings that are more in that mold; but they're all really young. If he did want Zegras then, and a significant portion of the flaw of the top 6 is that Quinn is performing well below expectations; well, Zegras gives the team a playmaker down low on the PP (something the team lacks) and he's a legit top 6 offensive F (what Adams thought he'd have in Quinn) and personally wouldn't be surprised if Adams still wants him. While most here want another power forward, and personally expect in a slightly different vein the team could really use another McLeod; would not be at all surprised if, should Adams make a deal in the next month or so, that he brings in Zegras or that sort of player.
-
The rumor over the summer was that Adams was trying to get Zegras. Wonder if he's still on his radar and what Anaheim would want for him?
-
No, he has knocked down a ton of clearing attempts that get past lesser mortals. Won't disagree that the puck gets past him some at the boards (particularly the left boards, which is NOT where he played coming up through the ranks). Will be watching for that more. It could be as simple as he's not as adept at using his body to keep it in the zone as guys that are used to (aka grew up) always playing on their "strong" side.

And the guy this kid saw in past seasons would make some miraculous keep ins that led to great scoring chances and oftentimes goals.

And the schedule lines up that way nearly every year. The schedule is quite sparse in October and compresses significantly after Christmas. (Apparently after Halloween this season.) The league doesn't want to compete against the NFL (but can't really do much about that for 4 months) nor the WS (which they can and do alter their schedule around). So, maybe @Brawndo's plan to keep Reimer up for the 1st couple of months and then flipping him and Levi makes sense; but again IMHO this team has too little room for error to have the 2nd best guy down in Ra-cha-cha while the 3rd best guy is dropping 2 points every 4th start. AND in both of the past 2 seasons, after Levi got called up for real, UPL's play tailed off noticably. (Was it because UPLs play tailed off that he got brought up, or (more likely in this kid's opinion) did his play tail off because he now had legit competition for the starter's job?) If it was because Levi got called up and now UPL was no longer 100% the starter in his own mind; well, guess what very possibly happens again when Levi gets called up in December. And Levi will be getting at least 1/2 the starts in that situation anyhow. When all is said and done, Levi's likely going to get ~32-35 games which is a bit over 3 of every 8. And, while this is a slightly tangential discussion, if UPL can't be his best self without playing at least 3 of every 4, he is NOT the goalie for THIS team. They are too young to be playing in front of a sieve every 4th game just to keep the starter in a good space mentally. (3 years from now, when they're actually a team with a standard age distribution, sure. But not now.) MHO, ymmv.
