So what [he] told you was true, from a certain point of view ... You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

This season has been defined by important scenes being rushed, while less important scenes drag on.

2014 Stanley Cup Finals - NY Rangers vs. LA Kings

Glad the Rags won. Now, LA can win it at home. -
It's OK, he does 'em with his Ditka!

2014 Stanley Cup Finals - NY Rangers vs. LA Kings

It's not useless and it is not meant to be taken as a slope. Much like a Pareto chart, it's specifically put in decreasing order of y from highest to lowest, so that you can clearly see who/what falls at the ends and their levels relative to the rest of the data points. In this case, it shows Quick at the "book ends" and illustrates how unusual high his first run was and low this one seems to be. -
2014 Stanley Cup Finals - NY Rangers vs. LA Kings

I hope that the Rangers take game 4 and then LA wins game 5. It's so underwhelming when a team wins the Cup on the road. I want to see a home celebration. -
Not sure the word "and" is appropriate in that first line. Last I checked, the only way to have a rapid change in velocity is by having great acceleration. Wow. I'm about 74" in both and if my arms were 3 1/2 inches longer, my finger tips would end at my knee caps. Do you have very broad shoulders?

One thing to consider about Boyle's NMC: it was far less of a big deal for him to waive it (assuming NYI would normally be on his list) now, since he can't be forced to ever play for the Islanders. Maybe he agreed to the trade to see if they threw stupid money at him, figuring that he could always ride it out and go to free agency. If he had a year left on his contract, then I would assume it means that he's likely to sign. Without that, I am less inclined to believe that it means he will.

I understand why they had to make it all one story line (Night's Watch), but it left me saying, "wait, what about *insert other story line* ... aw, damn, have to wait a week."

At 18 (freshman), we used to do finger-tip pull-ups on the door jams to train for rock climbing: (Closest picture I could find. Usually, the thumb wraps over the finger tips.) Required the same arm strength, but a lot more finger strength. I was surprised to find that I could still do one twenty years later.

I was surprised that The Mountain rolled over and did his number on Obe from above. It made more sense in the book, where he was too injured to get up at all (thus, Oberyn's overconfidence), but used his sheer strength to pull the Prince in and cave in his face. The show made it seem like he wasn't that bad off, afterall.

Though, if it has to be a Bruin, there are far worse choices than Bergeron.

Ryan O'Reilly is not physical, but he is hard to play against. He led the league in takeaways in 2013-14 (by a lot) and 2011-12, and was on pace to do so in 2012-13. He did this with considerably fewer giveaways than most players around him in takeaways. Only Marian Hossa and Jaden Schwartz had a higher (barely) differential per game this season.

Nah. Definitely the Bowl, probably the Cup, but not the Trophy.

But they have. The two conferences do not play each other in the playoffs (and barely do during the regular season) until the SC finals. Instead, each conference has a three-round (conference quarterfinals, semifinals and finals) tournament to figure out who the best team in that conference is, and then they play each other in the SC finals to determine who the best team in the NHL is. In this way, it's like the WHL, OHL and QMJHL, each having its own tournaments to figure out who the best team is in the individual league, and then each one gets a berth to determine who the best team in the CHL is. Likewise, collegiate conferences have tournaments to determine who their best teams are, and then those teams go on to play in a tournament to figure out who the best NCAA team is. In the NHL one teams gets two awards (SC and conference trophy), one gets one (the other conference trophy), and the rest get nothing.

6(.04) = .24 or 6(4%) = 24% (Actually, with annual compounding, 4% per year for six years works out to be 26.5% higher. 1.04^6 = 1.265.)

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Lundqvist is now 5-1 in Game 7's and maintains his 1 GAA. Safe to say that he is "clutch".

Makes sense; I'm early in Book 4.

Without giving away too much, does the book series cover Ramsay/Theon in greater detail after Tyrion's trial? I'm only slightly past that part in the books and I remember Theon being taken and then something about a piece of his finger skin being sent back; nothing like what we've seen to date on the TV series. Is that a relationship that the TV series has expanded upon or is it just out of order with the books?

I know that it's been said before, but I'm really glad that Peter Dinklage finally has a role that lets him shine.

My brother built one a couple of years back and has improved it each year since. It's amazing now. Even has a lighted Sabres logo under it at center ice!

Former Sabres prospect Gregg Sutch talks about leaving hockey
carpandean replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Aud Club
Unfortunately, no matter how much you enjoy doing something, when it becomes a job, it becomes "work". There are pressures, politics, demands, etc., that come along with being paid that make it nearly impossible to be just fun. My first real job was a dream situation; a kid in a candy shop. It became work pretty quickly. That said, he wasn't being asked to be a skill player anymore, but was instead risking his long-term health (especially with concussions), so it's understandable why he walked away. -
I got the feeling that he was upset that the Blues felt they needed to upgrade from him. Then, it came out very early (before he physically got here) that the Sabres were looking to flip him for picks/prospects. TM may even have told him as much. So, his comments, which were something like "I won't be here long," were probably reflective of that state. Had he been in the plans for Buffalo, he might have felt/acted differently (after he cooled down about the Blues slighting him.) If the Isles were to tell him that he will be the #1 (and offer him a lot of $$), then that might be enough to sign.
