Does it matter? Unless they changed the definition of "two-way contract" in the last lockout, it just affects salary, not where he can play.

Woohoo, my jersey is valid again! Welcome back!
-
True, but being traded to a team heading to the playoffs is often a good enough reason to waive one's NMC.

It's time to separate the wheat from the chaff, the men from the boys, the awkwardly feminine from the possibly Canadian.

I'm hoping TM "helps" some teams make room for their shiny new toys and gets paid for doing it.

I figured that you did and was mostly poking fun since you used the exact definition. I'd actually wonder which is a better predictor, junior numbers or AHL numbers. I'd actually guess that in both cases, the second (and maybe third) year's numbers would have the greatest correlation. First years would reflect how quickly players adjust, but not necessarily their potential, while later years would show experience at that level more than actual relative skill (think about over-age players in juniors and lifer AHLers.) Really, though, if all you are putting into your model is points, then it probably won't tell you very much. However, if points were used along with (including interactions with) other factors, such as size, speed, etc., then I could see that being very useful.

Actually, that's what correlation literally means. Of course, it's not perfect correlation; there's still noise around the projections due to the numerous factors that can affect each player's trajectory. However, that doesn't mean that the projections are without value, especially when they account for differences in junior leagues, etc.

Yeah, w/ his right hand. Then uses his left hand to flip the bird at the rest of the NHL.

I'd honestly have to say that I've heard Koo-ba more than Kew-ba, and would have thought that was the correct way to say it based on that. However, if he says Kew-ba, then that's what it is.

Yeah, we "talked" briefly about that in another thread (I believe) last week (or so). Off of the top of my head, he led the league in takeaways the two years before the lockout-shortened season, too, and was on pace to do so that year, but didn't play enough games. He was also very low in giveaways and was third behind Hossa and someone else (can't remember who) in takeaway-giveaway differential.

Wait, I thought that Draisaitl was a center. He's listed as such everywhere that I've seen. Don't tell me that he's a "center" like Gerbe was.

Get enough guys like Z&Z and it might be the other way around. There are plenty of examples of guys who had motivational issues that resolved themselves when added to a strong team. I'm not necessarily advocating keeping Staff and Myers around, but I'd be willing to bet that either would look more motivated on the Kings or Blackhawks.

So what [he] told you was true, from a certain point of view ... You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

This season has been defined by important scenes being rushed, while less important scenes drag on.

Glad the Rags won. Now, LA can win it at home. -
It's OK, he does 'em with his Ditka!

2014 Stanley Cup Finals - NY Rangers vs. LA Kings

It's not useless and it is not meant to be taken as a slope. Much like a Pareto chart, it's specifically put in decreasing order of y from highest to lowest, so that you can clearly see who/what falls at the ends and their levels relative to the rest of the data points. In this case, it shows Quick at the "book ends" and illustrates how unusual high his first run was and low this one seems to be. -
2014 Stanley Cup Finals - NY Rangers vs. LA Kings

I hope that the Rangers take game 4 and then LA wins game 5. It's so underwhelming when a team wins the Cup on the road. I want to see a home celebration. -
Not sure the word "and" is appropriate in that first line. Last I checked, the only way to have a rapid change in velocity is by having great acceleration. Wow. I'm about 74" in both and if my arms were 3 1/2 inches longer, my finger tips would end at my knee caps. Do you have very broad shoulders?

One thing to consider about Boyle's NMC: it was far less of a big deal for him to waive it (assuming NYI would normally be on his list) now, since he can't be forced to ever play for the Islanders. Maybe he agreed to the trade to see if they threw stupid money at him, figuring that he could always ride it out and go to free agency. If he had a year left on his contract, then I would assume it means that he's likely to sign. Without that, I am less inclined to believe that it means he will.

I understand why they had to make it all one story line (Night's Watch), but it left me saying, "wait, what about *insert other story line* ... aw, damn, have to wait a week."

At 18 (freshman), we used to do finger-tip pull-ups on the door jams to train for rock climbing: (Closest picture I could find. Usually, the thumb wraps over the finger tips.) Required the same arm strength, but a lot more finger strength. I was surprised to find that I could still do one twenty years later.
