Is Adams done with his "overhaul" of the Sabres 25-26 roster?
mjd1001 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
You may be correct, but to me I look at him as a 'unit', him and Tage. As I posted a week or two ago, as a combo, the two of them meshed so well they were one of the most dangerous combos in the league. It wasn't just 2-3 games, in almost 20 games together, when they were on the ice they scored goals at a greater pace than Draisaitl/McDavid and Matthews/Marner. Now, can you EXPECT that level of production to continue? Probably not, but I don't think its unreasonable to think it can tale a step back and still be really good. In 352 minutes played together, when they were on the ice even strength, the Sabres scored a goal about every 12.5 minutes. That is super, super productive. Again, since it wasn't over 20 minutes, or even 80-100, it was over 352 minutes (not a small sample size), I think it would be silly to not see where that combo can go this year. For comparison, Draisaitl/McDavid scored a goal together on the ice ES last year in just over 400 minutes once every 13.1 minutes..and their career numbers together are close to once every 14 minutes. -

Greenway is a 4th line guy when healthy. I think Tage - Norris - Tuch as a line has a playmaking deficiency, it also means other teams can match all their good D players against 1 line. -
Do you really think that I’m unaware of the limitations of KA? Have you read my posts about his lack of ability as a GM and his less than mediocre performance during his tenure? You may expect him to act beyond his ability but I don’t.

Elite defensive forwards play on FL2 against an another teams first line (when at home and you can matchup better). I have no issues with him moving up to a second line role (assuming Greenway/Zucker aren’t both injured or producing). I also now he is an analytics darling and loved by the masses on SS. But you need your best talent on the first line. Tage/Norris/Tuch. These are known quantities. Men who score goals. -
I know, but that's been an ongoing thing with me forever. Don't build a regular season roster that you know will fail in the playoffs. Start with the idea of building a playoff type roster and keep upgrading talent until you get there and stay there and compete there. We need players who open up space for the other skill players and players who are on the ice when somebody rocks Thompson or maybe this year it'll be Dahlin. We need grit on every line not just the bottom 3. Joshua isn't Tom Wilson (the ideal version of top 6 grit) or Sam Bennett etc. but he has shown enough skill at times that he could succeed in an elevated role. Again, I just think they construct the roster in a bad and always failing way. Insanity. Just doing the same thing over and over again.

Because Benson is elite defensively and 2 of the "better" players he had were Cozens, a guy who can't shoot for *****, and first half Quinn who wouldn't score on a goalie until December. It's unclear if Benson sticks there though. -
It’s simply a statement of fact - yet devoid of context - akin to the sort of excuse making diatribe one might hear at your average Kevyn Adams concert everyone gets it. It doesn’t matter, relative to: the bar being merely their ability to field a playoff team *once* in 5 years. The discussion isn’t about becoming a mainstay Stanley cup contender. You know who can whine? The Jets and their fans. They are frequently (and most recently) ranked WELL below Buffalo *even now(!!!)* on player destination lists, bust their ***** because that’s the job..sorry, let me rephrase that: simply operate with basic competence because that’s the job, and due to the fact *mediocre* teams make the playoffs every year they’ve found a way to make the playoffs…8 times. THEY are hard done by from the system cause they’d be doing even better if not for the handcuffs we squander what we have. Theres no compelling case we are being screwed out of anything we wouldn’t screw up ourselves no, it is not an inhibiting factor - not a reasonable one to the small ask we have of a singular playoff appearance Beyond this, Adams has proven he CAN acquire higher level players: McLeod is a higher level player, relative to the simple goal we are trying to achieve. As is Zucker. what did McLeod cost? Only some humbleness. Cutting away a little bit of your slow play plan, admitting defeat and choosing to be better. Namely: a prospective player. it hasn’t been ability that has held Adams back, primarily, neither inside the individual nor without: it has been the will to act. The will to deviate - because his plan lacked the will, to begin with

How can you say in sequential posts how crazy the fan base is to even consider Kulich starting on FL1, then follow it up with penciling in Benson there? I think the fact either starting there is equally egregious. In fact it kind of explains the impotence of the organization, doesn’t it?. There are zero 10 goal/28 point forwards slotted on the first line around the league. Benson had the same point total as Krebs, with better line mates, and a higher ATOI. No one is clamoring for Krebs to play alongside Tage. Until Benson puts up a 20 goal season like JJP, then first line LW should not be a consideration. In terms of age and pedigree, why would Quinn not supersede Benson in the overall hierarchy? I think it’s more probable than not he out points both Kulich and Benson. -

You don’t believe that it is true and an inhibiting factor in pursuing higher level players?

The offseason so far - Are the Sabres better?
GASabresIUFAN replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I wasn’t being sarcastic. I was being dead serious. After all two genius talking heads on the NHL network said Jones is great. Why shouldn’t I believe them? Of course it does raise the question is if Jones is so great why didn’t he have better options then signing here? -

Ditto. I will wait for the actual line combo's and D pairings. Camp will sort that out. Not buying any of the combo's listed above. Byram believes he's playing with our Captain, which is fine. Goalie still worries me. UPL turned into a head case last year. Can he rebound ? -

Absolutely. Jones is the savior of the Sabres inept defense. It was the signing of the century. Didn't Adams give Johnson a 3 year deal? I think Metsa has a better shot of making the Sabres then Zac Jones. -
