  1. Past hour
  2. I wouldn’t go that far. Bennett was certainly looking like a bust relative to his draft position. But, he had built a reputation as a strong playoff performer in Calgary (11 goals in 30 playoff games, while being an abrasive hard to play against wanker). Florida got him in April 2021 for a 2nd and prospect Emil Heinemen, who is now in the NHL with Montreal. At the time Bennett was headed into the last year of a bridge deal that paid him around $2.5 million. Any team could have beat that offer; Bennett did not choose Florida for the palm trees and low taxes. Different positions and styles, but like Bennett, Bowen Byram was a 4th OA pick. He is at about the same point in his career as Bennett was when traded to Florida. It looks like we will trade him. On the expected Buffalo Podcast they did their mock off-season part one, and Byram went to San Jose for Timothy Lilegren and the 30th overall pick.
  3. Being a pirate has its perils. It means that you haven chosen a life adrift from the normal. 🥲
  4. All season long it looked like Oiler management had erred big-time in not keeping Holloway, McLeod, and Foegele and opting to keep Henrique and add J. Skinner, and Arvidsson. Then after looking finished early in rd 1, they rattled off a 13-2 stretch to put themselves up 1-0 in the cup final. Now though, it looks like they are running out of steam. The Oilers are still an elite team. It was said last night on here that it doesn’t seem that the Oilers have “IT”. Maybe so, but if the Oilers don’t have “IT” then the Panthers are the only team that does. Maybe the Oilers are getting sucked into the Panthers game, but watching the last few minutes last night, it seemed to me that the Oilers were doing what we would want the Sabres to do. They were sending a message that they aren’t going quietly. And, they have a lot of guys who can participate in the shenanigans. One line after the other had someone willing to drop the gloves or mix it up with the toughest of the Panthers. Maybe this is fence sitting, but I would not count the Oilers out until they are down 2 late in an elimination game. I could easily see them losing Thursday and then winning game 5 at home, putting them one road win from a game 7.
  5. Sorry, McDavid has the charisma of an old shoe. Sure, his personal stats are great, but the league and NHL media have been shoving this guy down our throats since well before he was drafted. That alone is enough to be sick of hearing the name "McDavid", but combined with the flatness of his presentation, the roster of dooshy players surrounding him, I am far from compelled to root for the guy.
  6. McLeod, Broberg and Holloway were 3 homegrown guys that were entering their productive years. You are right that getting futures for these guys cost them depth and experience. Skinner was a gamble that didn’t pay off but Kapanen was a good pickup. If they don’t seal the deal this year I wonder what tweaks they undergo? Nurse is hugely overpaid, they could get similar value for half that price, imo.
  7. True, until right now in the Cup final series. McDavid has ZERO goals so far in this series. He has to be better in game 4 than he was in game 3 (no points). He has to take over.
  8. Someone say darn gun style?
  9. The story is not dissimilar for McDavid.
  10. Makes a good story until you look at Allen's stats. Allen would have needed to score points (mostly TDs) on every single possession for the Bills to win in their last two playoff losses. A very poor defense and some untimely missed blocks/dropped passes on offense are too much to overcome.
  11. I see what you’re saying now. I really like Cook and I understand why he’s doing what he’s doing (although I think putting his house up for sale cause he’s pissed is over doing it). But the NFL has shown how giving big deals to RB’s isn’t that smart. Especially teams that have an MVP QB who runs the show. There are definitely RB’s who deserve those big contracts. But Cook on this team unfortunately isn’t one of them.
  12. The $10 mill came from the gate keeping fans in the replies, not me. I don’t care what he’s worth or what he makes. If they get a deal done, great. If not, Ray Davis is in the wings.
  13. Today
  14. I would like to subscribe to your podcast. I’ll even pay twice.
  15. Sure. He’s good at certain things. But I believe he was asking 15. And there’s a reason the big boys upstairs aren’t paying him. Beanne didn’t even try to sugar coat it. Simply said, no. Glad to see he showed up to camp though.
  16. Oh whatever, this is such an obvious bait and switch job, like the Warren Commission. Heck, if you listen to press conference at the point just after the one minute 30 second mark and before the eleven minute eighteen second mark you can almost hear Ruff say "I'm only a patsy." Sure, he's to blame for fourteen years of failure The NHL, big corporation, G. Gordon Liddy, Howard Hunt, the whole Watergate crowd, and Hillary Clinton, of course. It’s all just a coincidence that this info leaks just when Musk and Trump have their big fight. Talk about a smoke screen! They are all in on it. You think a franchise can really go fourteen years without making playoffs, in this league?? They want the Sabres to lose! Just follow the money. Galisano did his job, passed it off to the natural gas guy, Haskey pretending to rail again Russian players, tariffs on Buffalo’s close neighbor Canada and how many illegal immigrants play for Buffalo? Ya, like none! Now they want us to believe Lindy wanted this coaching staff? It’s so obvious, just so obvious. He’s being set up as the patsy! They shoved all this analytics at us to confuse us. Hey look at these neat charts no one can understand, and oh ya, Lindy Ruff is the real reason the Sabres are inept! Well, ya, for them it is. Ever notice how none of the charts look like grassy knolls? No? Well I did! We have never been told how many Sabres were on Jeffry Epstein’s list. You know why? They don’t want us to know! And why did the beautiful memorial auditorium have to go? Had to bury Saddam’s WMD somewhere! But sure, blame Lindy. You are all a bunch of sheep!
  17. That rule change will happen the first year that the Sabres are a true cup contender. Bank on it.
  18. Pretty on the nose to be honest, both are genuine freaks of nature who seem blocked from true glory by a small number of opponents. As for being a historically great player, Allen has 65 rushing TDs so far in his career. He is 3rd in Active Players behind Ezekiel Elliott with 74 and Derrick Henry with 106. 35 more in his career and he'd be only 1 of 10 NFL players to ever score 100 Rushing TDs.
  19. The larger issue, to me, is how complicit is Ruff? At this point I think the answer is: entirely. Either Ruff accepted the take it or leave it offer, or he has the power to make change and for some reason has chosen not to. Either way, Ruff is not the adult in the room who is going to set the organization straight.
  20. I find it bizarre when fans gate keep contract valuation. Dude is going to get paid what he’s worth. I don’t need Skip from Cheektowaga to tell me he doesn’t think Cook is worth more than $10 mill. The market is the market. He’ll get what he’s worth. Hopefully the Bills can afford it but if not 🤷‍♂️.
  21. Following the Oilers' OT win to start the series, one of my group chats was going on and on (and on) about what a freakish alien McDavid is on the ice. Eventually, that led to the chat reflecting on how fans of Buffalo sports have their own alien to support and enjoy. That, in turn, led to some half-baked takes on likening McDavid to Allen on some level. For my part, I think McDavid is a notch above Allen in terms of being superior to his peers and being an historic great in his sport. But there's something to it. Both players just do sh1t on the ice/field that seems impossible. And they're both joys to watch. EDIT: And both players have been bumping up against a ceiling that is short of ultimate glory.
  22. Really good takes/insights here.
  23. I still do not trust what Adams said in the video to be the complete story. Adams "talked" to an NHL Assistant Coach recently, but nothing really happened and no offer was made, so he ended up in Chicago.
  24. I think we all know what is going to happen... Adams will make plays for players that can help the organization, they will not want to come here because this organiation is the worst in professional sports with no relief in sight... Adams will blame palm trees and then use our existing players and prospects and over pay to bring on middling players at best (Malynstien, Laugherty, etc... ) who wont move the needle devoid us of potentially some premium talent (who would have left us anyways) and we will be in an out of last place in the conference again all year. Nothing changes until Pegula sells or drastically changes the organizational structure to include a legitimate person to steer the ship and cede control to that person. Until then we are on the hamster wheel...
