  1. Past hour
  2. Thanks to everyone that is explaining the difference between revenue and profit. You all must work for the government or an accounting firm because I can’t imagine anyone else cares about profit. You all need to look up an old WKRP episode where Doctor Johnny Fever explained the myth of profit. These guys are all making money. Very rich, very smart people are doing something normally foreign to them; they are begging for inclusion. They wouldn’t be doing that for the privilege of losing money.
  3. I liked the pairing of #4 and 6 back in its day. The boards in the Aud were loud
  4. Ok, I'm gonna say it one more time. Owen Power is never ever gonna be up to the physical part. He wasn't in college and he's not in the NHL. He's a passive defender with a good stick and skating. He has good passing. He's always gonna get his ***** pushed in because he plays passive defense. So either we are good with a 6'6" offensive defender who isn't physical but takes up space and gets you 40pts or we should move him.
  5. Oh man the 2026 draft is nutz. Straight up, no joke, it's got some dudes.
  6. It's 8yrs x 5mil
  7. Yea I'm sure Jan in accounting is really making it hard for Terry to afford her 60k a year. Also as noted up thread, Terry is saving a penny to cost himself a dollar. This team would make far more money if they made the playoffs.
  8. I don't know. What other expenses are there? Teams have more employees than just players. What about rent, taxes, insurance? Are you aware that a salary is only about 60% of the cost of an employee?
  9. Eh. Those career scout guys tend to churn through several organizations in the course of a career. His perspective on Levi may well have been a consensus among the Florida's amateur scouting department. This is mostly a way of me re-remembering how much I fooking hate the return that the Sabres got for an NHL stud like Reinhart.
  10. Making small amounts of money by pinching every penny possible like many NHL teams do versus making crap loads of money while spending money like it's free as they do in the NFL are completely different things. Also "revenue" is not profit.
  11. Are the Sabres in the red or black when the revenues/costs are tabulated? Just my opinion, but if the owner had a competitive team that made the playoffs, the generated revenue would be around 50% more. Save a penny and lose a dollar.
  12. Today
  13. Florida extends Mikkola to 5 x $8M for forty total. Second pair defensive defenseman. One more year on the current deal.
  14. Does 180 million pay all the bills for a team that only spends half that on the cap? I'd hope so.
  15. I am at the point where I really don't even care about new injury announcements. I genuinely think they are going to be a mess with the current lineup as it is, or with any of the call-ups. At the same time, I could not care less about the draft position because none of that has helped over the last 15 years either.
  16. Yes. He was both D and F. With yge Sabres he pretty much played D and paired with Schoeny.
  17. TSN has a story up saying that Carter Hart is very likely to sign with Vegas. Looking at their depth chart, that move makes a ton of sense. That's a very questionable lilneup right there, especially for a high end team. It makes you reflect on the Sabres goalies a bit and realize just how questionable the position is all over the league.
  18. I'm not in favor of funding Healthcare for illegal immigrants
  19. Clearly needed 2. He was not up to physical part of being an nhl defenseman. I hoping that this year he is.
  20. It's funny that you mention the well run organization piece because look who that scout doesn't work for anymore. (I want to include a laughing emoji here, but the choices suck).
  21. Without Winnipeg, that's a whole lot of playoff drought on that lowest revenue list (I know, Ottawa). That whole thing feels like a big chicken or the egg thing on what is coming first. I'll hold off on Utah for now because who the hell knows what they have there yet.
  22. I was just thinking this today after seeing so many headlines about injuries. 🤣
  23. There is a difference between franchise values and operating in the red. Does $180MM/yr pay the bills? I don't know all the Sabres expenses.
  24. It’s only shocking if people have believed the long held myth that these franchises lose money.
  25. Don't let Adams hear that. I still thought for sure that the Rosén pick was going to be Wallstedt (and Cossa available, too), so as to land high pick to pair with Levi's recent Canada junior heroics. But general consensus is he's still a legitimate goalie prospect, just maybe not as good as Wolf.
  26. On the one hand: This is one scout's opinion. There were likely other scouts in that organization (or any organization) who would go to bat for Levi. On the other hand: The Sabres dealt with the Panthers in acquiring Levi. One of the worst-run franchises in the league dealing with one of the best-run franchises in the league. The Panthers had whoever the f**k they had on their side of the deal -- seasoned, competent people working with a cohesive vision of the team they wanted to create. The Sabres had Kevyn Adams and f**king Jerry Forton as their chief scout of amateur players. Karmanos would have been there in the mix but I can't imagine him having much of a voice in that deal. I can't adequately explain how much I dislike the JerryFortonication of Sabres hockey. That dude is straight up cosplaying as an NHL executive. Michael Scott from The Office type sh1t. Or maybe Adams is Michael Scott and Jerry Forton is Dwight Schrute? Idk.
