Petersson? I really like him (or should I say liked). I pushed for him as a top 10 player in the league 2 years ago, but its hard to not see that SOMETHING has happened to him. I don't know what it is, some say it was him signing the contract. Someone on a Vancouver board says he got hurt during a late February game last year vs Minnesota. I'm not sure. But he's been a different player than early in his career and its been like that for a while now. Since last Feb of 2024 in that game vs the wild (1.5 seasons ago), including the playoffs, he has played 102 games, has 21g and 46a. Thats a 16g, 37 assist, 53 point pace per 82, and that is over a full season and a half plus a playoff run, not a short term sample size. For $11.7 million per year, long term, with a no movement clause? To acquire him, it would probably be a massive mistake given his contract, unless he miraculously finds his game, or heals a big time injury here. For that money, I need a center to be giving me either 40 goals, 100 points, (maybe both?) over a full season, and for the last...going on almost 2 seasons, hes doing teens in goals and barely 50 points.

I agree but we had to make changes imo. I hate losing JJP but it definitely feels he wanted it out or Adams didn't want to point up the money for him. Either way I like the compensation of players vs picks that might have been all we got if somebody signed him up an offer sheet.

My recollection is that the story was Ehlers was willing to accept a trade to Buffalo but declined to extend. He wants to go to UFA and see what he can get.

And even if a guy rejects a trade, his opinion can very easily change if that one team is suddenly offering a lot more than anyone else. I’m not trying to suggest anything about Ehlers when I say it, it’s just meant to be more generic of a statement.

One of the best and greatest values is that when you have a player drafted first overall they provide such a value to their pair you can expend assets elsewhere. What we did however is trade our best left winger and most valuable trade asset to supplement that pick’s pair

Well the bottom line is we are now slightly better on D and substantially weaker at wing. If they trade Byram we are no longer better on D but maybe the D is slightly different. If we trade Byram for a winger said winger puts up 25-30 goals we are exactly the same with more shuffled deck chairs and an internal cap.

Ekblad and Hedman got paired with veteran savvy players when they were young players. This is common practice. Myers got Tallinder (for only one season). When Schaefer goes to the Islanders this season, he's going to skate with Pulock (30 RHD) or Mayfield (32 RHD) both of whom are on long-term contracts. He's going to be able to learn from them for years before he's expected to just carry a pairing on his own. The Isles aren't going to trade those two guys away and pair him with Jesse Pulkinen in their top-4 and say, "have fun."

To be fair, he was a 20-21 kid this season on a Stanley Cup-contending favorite roster (from the West, at least) from day one of the season. They were the oldest/most veteran team in the league (again - a GM Holland specialty), and even if it disappointed them in the playoffs, they had veteran depth. They had experienced former top-6 guys in Arvidsson and Skinner, they had undisciplined depth scoring in Kane, and they capable veteran 3/4 guys in Connor Brown and Kapanen. Not good enough to beat Florida, but solid. Savoie wasn't going to displace those guys without being a stud -- which, he's a good prospect -- not another McDavid. Now, it'll get brought up again once he's in the NHL. One season on Draisaitl's wing and all the folks can point and laugh at Adams all over again. (It's still a good trade for the Sabres.)

Had Kevyn not prepaid Power and/or Muel I have to think JPP may still be here. Thing is Kesselring has size shown to a consistent .33 point per game producer which ain't bad for a 2nd pairing Dman. I'm hoping he's a Mike Ramsey type but might be lofty expectations at the very least Richard Shmelik.

Wrong on Cozens. Ehlers reportedly was okay with a trade to Buffalo but would not negotiate an extension at the time. Probably to walk him to the much more lucrative, higher cap Summer of '25.
