I have no idea if Mrtka is good pick at that slot other than it roughly aligns with where most of the usual outlets expect him to be taken. I think it is funny and predictable that after reading for months about the Sabres not paying enough attention to size, handedness and defensive acumen that the idea of them taking a 6'6" RHD with probably the best "shutdown D" resume in the draft class gets a "woof".

There were alot of rumors swirling about Russian mafia shaking down NHL players. I recall Bure being linked to the Russian mob. I always assumed that Mogilny’s fear of flying was related to threats on his life. I know there was speculation it was related to him not wanting to be a Sabre, or not wanting to be under Bowman. I thought fear of the Russian mob was the more likely circumstance.

Congratulations Alex. That WJHC line of Mogilny, Fedorov and Bure was my introduction to him and I couldn’t believe the Sabres got him out of Russia. I am looking forward to this induction.

It's ridiculous because he kept his job despite the failure of last season. By not being fired you'd think there'd be a new sense of urgency. An on the clock or one last chance kind of thing but he seems to be moving along like he has this job for life.
