Kesselring was averaging 17 minutes a game last year. If he can't average 4 more minutes a game than we have a problem. -

That non-certainty of it is a good take I hate the deal and I haven’t once said it can’t work or that these players won’t be good. It’s, for me, simply the principle. I know the deal was limited by $ concerns, I know the priority when making the deal wasn’t fully “winning”. The sabres being bad for this long don’t owe us winning. But they owe us doing their best to maximize winning, when they do or don’t make transactions. It’s as simple as that, for me. My stance is the sabres crest and their fans deserve a no stone unturned approach - I believe expecting nothing less on each and every move is very reasonable -

I wanted a bigger and tougher team. This trade helps. -
lol, I love the sudden bad mouthing of Peterka. I guess it’s human nature. All this kid did was work hard and improve every year he was in the organization. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wormtongue Adams spread the rumor JJP wanted out so he’d have an excuse not to pay him. Remember this is the genius GM who gave out long term deals one year wonders Cozens, Samuelsson, UPL and Power and didn’t give deals to players who earned new deals like Ullmark, Reinhart, Mitts and Peterka. The only brightside of this deal is that we have a top 4 RHD. The fact it’s 3-4 years too late to save this sinking ship is another issue. Can’t wait to see what his new deal will be when he gets traded because his contract demands will be to much for the incompetent Adams.

I don’t like the trade, but I would not say I hate it. I am a Sabre fan and by default I am finding things to like about Kesselring and Doan. Legit things to like. I don’t like the trade because I fear it portends what the next moves will be. There has been much speculation on an internal cap. A similar return for Byram and we pretty much have our confirmation. If Adams can move Byram and Quinn and extras for a veteran right shot D and a veteran middle-6 winger, both with playoff bonafides, and find a way to add a veteran goalie who can play 35-40 games as UPL’s partner, I may yet come around on our roster. -
They both did. It’s gospel for some on here that “nobody wants to come to Buffalo.” Here are 2 guys who very clearly are happy to be coming to Buffalo. “Closer to family, Tage is a cool guy, Dahlin and Power are great players” and most importantly “I’m going to get an opportunity to show people how good I can be.” It’s kinda like @thorny’s thing upthread about the Savoie trade: the truth is there are probably as many opinions about trades as there are internet accounts and none of them really mean much once the puck drops. I remember being real excited about getting Chris Gratton and really pissed off about flipping Alex Mogilny for skinny little Mike Peca. The original Hasek trade? It was a shrug. What the ***** do I know? Maybe we get lucky and these kids can make a difference: isn’t that what fandom is built on? At least they’re changing something.

Wouldn’t surprise me. Dahlin must be sick of losing and losers, no matter how talented. If the 23 yr old 4 yr vet Peterka wasn’t buying into the system and didn’t want to be a Sabre, I would like to believe the 25 yr old 7 yr vet and team Captain Dahlin would have told him goodbye and good luck after asking KA to trade him. Dahlin hasn't worn the C even a year yet. He will grow into the role and get more vocal, my bet. Not an Adams fan, but agree with him 100%. If a player doesn’t want to be in Buffalo, move him. Think Adams made the right decision about JJP. The Sabres need to build a roster of players who want to be here, who care about each other, play a hard game standing up for each other, and play with a passion for winning. Whether it’s hockey or ping pong in the locker room. The Passion for Winning Gene. Hasn’t gotten the attention from our scouting, analytics, and front office it requires to build a Panthers-like culture, imo. Don’t believe I’ve ever heard Adams emphasize it. Winning your shift, winning a puck battle on the boards, winning every game. A GM, Coach, or Player either has it or doesn’t.

We don't. But unlke Clifton who was (or should've been) a known quantity, this guy is still only, what, 23? He very well could and should be a better hockey player this coming season than he was last season (all other variables being unchanged, which absolutely isn't possible). Personally, can't vote in this poll because if this is the ONLY move Adams makes, then am very unhappy with it. If it's part of a grander package of revamping the roster (yeah, right, but for sake of discussion, let's say it is or at least might be) then even though Adams likely only got ~80% of what Peterka should be worth if the sum whole of the moves these next 2 weeks primarily and all summer end up netting the Sabres a team that can make the playoffs, then cool, the deal was fine. And that isn't looking back on it 10 years later; that's looking back on it 2 weeks to 3 months later. But in and of itself, no, there should have been a better deal out there and per reports there's a pretty decent likelihood there was. Plus, there was no NEED to trade him. He doesn't reach UFA status for 4 (well, now post new contract 5) more years. -
That’s completely un-true. Go back and read the articles about the McLeod trade, or every talent pool analysis or every discussion of a player’s career. The perception at the time of the Savoie trade was that we didn’t get enough for Savoie. Whether it matters on the ice is a second question, but it amazing how many opportunities former 1st rd picks seem to get such as Jeff Jillson for example. The truth is it does matter.

Chad D: expect a Byram trade at or around the draft
The Jokeman replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
The 2 1sts and 2 players feels like San Jose trying to pass on Timothy Liljegren maybe Ty Dellandrea and 30OA in 2025 and Edmonton's 1st in 2026. That or Rangers passing on crap. -

The problem is that we have another young, promising, drafted player asking for a trade out. Which lowers value in the trade market too, and thus return. That’s the problem with this trade and why I don’t like it whatsoever. Especially with so many other avenues they could’ve gone with JJ. -

I think that's fair. I guess the real heart of the question is, is Buffalo better with this Peterka trade than if they just kept Peterka. I'm not sure because part of me thinks Peterka isn't what we need but part also thinks we didn't get enough. In the end, I might bet well be wrong, in fact it's probably more likely the Sabres are worse off right now than with Peterka. But there's still this part of me that thinks they're better. -

At this point, we don't even know if Kesselring can handle top 4 minutes. And that's why this deal kind-of sucks. It's a production vs projection deal, and Adams was on the wrong side of it (because he claims he's in win now mode). If Kesselring craps out of a top 4 role (like Clifton did), we're looking at a giant bust of a deal. -

I suppose I’d understand the distinction more if a trade was strictly necessary - was just struggling with the idea the option of making the deal could be construed as good when the option to keep what we’ve deemed as better remains viable I do think there’s some trickiness in the poll options as they aren’t equal from centre - “hate” is further one way than “good” -

Yea, that's pretty accurate. This thread asked for a hard decision and I decided to lean yes and answer yes. This trade could very very easily blow up in buffalo's face. I wanted the sure fire win, hence Robertson. So I'm both disappointed and still ok with the return. Yes, I recognize the juxtaposition of it. -

But then don’t trade him - you reiterated multiple times leading up to today “we simply don’t have to trade him”. And then said you would not do it for less than Robertson so we did it for less than Robertson, and we didn’t have to do it - those are your stated suppositions. We did the trade for less than you said you’d be willing to, but are saying it’s a good trade when you specifically said it’s less value than you’d be willing to do the trade for Correct? You would have said no to the deal, but you like the deal for our team cause, it’s not “well I want more but I do like it” - at least I don’t see how a deal you’ve stated you wouldn’t make falls under the category of a trade you like when there’s no requirement to make the deal
