I like him. Now -
No stat is perfect, but if I had to pick my favorite stat to evaluate goalies, its not gaa, its not save percentage, but I'd lean toward goals saved above average. So far this year in Goals saved above average: Lyon: +0.91 Ellis: +1.24 UPL: -2.15 (all of last season he was a -2.53) Small sample size. Not a 'perfect' stat. But at this point, if there were any 'takers' for UPL, I'd move him.

The "hate", at least from me, was just because of how bad last year was. I say this with all honesty ...I think he may have been the very worst forward in the league last year that got regular minutes. When you have a year like that, you have a LOT to prove going forward. This year I think he's been better than last year, but he's still not 'good'. As a matter of fact, he has had some good games but those are the exception. This year I'd say he's had 3-4 actual good games, another 2-3 where you really didn't notice him at all, and the rest have been bad just like last year (little offense generation, bad mistakes in the defensive zone/neutra zone, etc.) Again, for me hes not at the 'you got to get him out of the lineup, he's killing you!' place that he was last year...so thats good, but I still need to see more.

I got to see about 2/3 of the game on the Oilers broadcast (but somehow missed most of the Sabres goals - lol). I’m delighted with the win and strength of the team’s play. I couldn’t shake or escape the sense that Edmonton mostly looked like dog sh1t out there. Just not a lot of juice or jump. Even if that’s accurate, the fact is that the Sabres put a whoopin’ on a team having a bad night. Which is good! Ellis looked great. Absorbent! Call him ShamWow. -

That's what I said in the game thread. Time to end the nonsense with too many goalies and just get rid of UPL. It's Ellis Lyon until it's Ellis Levi. I've also been saying we need to pick up waiver guys now and again in all positions. There have been some decent gambles out there in the last few years and we could have easily built a decent bottom 6 without making trades.

Woke up, checked the score, misread the score, got angry, went back to sleep, got up checked score again, oh we won. Yay. Morning everyone.

This was about as predictable a win as it gets for the Sabres. I saw the line and told my wife - we will win this game. It’s the Sabres MO for the last half decade. We look horrible for several games and beat a superior team unexpectedly. May win the next 1-2 games or 4 out of 5, and then lose 7 of 8. It’s baked into the culture of the team. -

Wow, Quinn still has your ire? That surprises me just a bit. Too many turnovers and goals scored not what you might expect, but he is a half point per game forward with a huge ceiling and needs games played. Especially when you have Josh Dunne still in the lineup. Where does he rank for you? Dunne out —->Zucker in Krebs out —> Benson In Beck out —> Kulich in Greenway out —> Norris in Tage/Norris/Tuch Benson/McLeod/Doan Kulich/Kozak/Zucker Rosen/Östlund/Quinn Edit- still agree Ruff sends down Rosen and Östlund, cause….Sabres -

I missed the game. Watched the replay. Best 60 minutes I’ve seen the Sabres play this season, start to finish. No let up in the final period. Took the Oilers out of any chance of coming back. Ellis was supported by great D and made big saves when challenged. Easy to see the team has confidence in him. He earned the next start. Let’s see if he can handle it. Östlund, Rosen, and Kozak bring great energy to the team. Will hate to see any one of them sent down, but expect it. The future is brighter after their visit.

Well played

At 4.75, I don't see it, unless we eat approx. half.

KA gives chances out like Halloween candy.

For myself, I have not come to a conclusion on Quinn. No hate, but no Benson-esque adoration. I saw him finish a check nicely tonight. He plays well with the skilled kids. Unlike Tommy Dangles, he shoots when he should shoot, passes when he should pass. He's not an overrated disaster like Power. I'm still willing to give him a chance to put it all together.

Correct call Coach! Good game by boys in Blue. Still. Fire. Kevyn. He doesn’t deserve this success, he has been an unbelievable failure as GM (in name only). TP needs an intervention. Dude, you came in w ‘CUP!’ You obviously made it in oil & gas. Hire talent to bring you the cup! Sabres fans will love (like NHL Commish) you after all this. Put KA in charge as Palm tree& taxes CZAR. Trade him w UPL for future considerations. Whatever.

Also interesting that comparing GAA, he is just behind our friend Eric Comrie, and he's also played virtually the same amount of minutes. Rank Name Team GP W L SA Sv GA Sv% GAA TOI 30 Eric Comrie WPG 4 3 1 119 108 11 .908 2.75 239:56 31 Colten Ellis BUF 4 3 1 128 117 11 .914 2.76 238:46

I don’t understand the Jack Quinn hate, truly Last year was a disaster, the year before that was promising, and this year is building on that season from 2 years ago. He’s fast and skilled, he’s done more than enough to not be the first suggested guy to be taken out of the lineup.

He's 3-1 in his short career, with a .914 Sv%. Sounds good, but he also has a 2.76 GAA which tells me that the Sabres are still giving up too many shots, but are mostly able to overcome that with him in net (more confident with him, leading to more goals?) His one loss against Utah was a game that the Sabres totally played like doo-doo.

Are Blues pi$$ed enough that we should expect an offer sheet?
-
Intelligent too. Makes smart hockey plays, especially when handling the puck. UPL typically rims it around the boards to the opposing team while Ellis actually passes it to a teammate more often than not.
-
Okay @Spoonman, let's get you back to bed.

Didn't really surprise me that they won this one. They have a habit of winning these type of games. I really don't think it means anything but you never know, they might get on a roll. Kozak very impressive checking McJesus. That's the biggest encouraging takeaway I have from this one. If he can become a solid 2 way checker and not just a 4th liner we might just have filled a big hole. Ellis was also very solid. It's way past time for KA to make the move and ditch UPL one way or another. It should be Ellis and Lyon until it's Ellis and Levi and that's it. Get it done you piece of crap moron GM. While he's at it he can ditch Greenway as well. Absolute rubbish hockey player. Power still giving the puck away too much but when you win it doesn't matter.
