Anyone else surprised....

at what a good job the Sens did responding to the Leafs Thursday night? They hit Tucker everytime he touched the puck. A couple of heavy shots were thrown. I doubt Tucker had any trouble sleeping last night. They wore his a$$ out. That's what teams like the Sens and Sabres have to do. Team toughness with a gang mentality. "You come after us? We'll send 20 after you".

I think with the Sens, Habs and Leafs the Northeast will start to look like the old 'Adams Division'. Four teams that can't stand each other. They should all be playoff teams which will make it even better. ;)

To bad the Sabres don't have 20 guys that can come out and go after someone like that.

This coming from the guy that can't stand the fact Peters even gets the chance to dress for a game.

Being a goon has nothing to do with toughness. There are plenty of tough guys who play in this league who can actually play hockey. Peters is not one of them. :wallbash:

Well, you seem to be the only one who doesn't think he can play cause his teammates like him and Ruff is giving him ice time and kept him on the team this year

So what did he do to you that makes you hate him so much? Did he kick your puppy when you were walking down the street? Did you groupp and go to school with him in St. Catharines and he stole your lunch money and called you names daily? Was you Dad named Andrew, or Peter and he touched you when you were young? Was your mom named Andrew or Peter and she touched you when you were a kid?

I just don't see how someone can have so much hatred for a player on what is supposed a team he is a fan of that is playing so well and he has been playing well on.

He's playing now because he's cheap. He's also playing now because the younger guys would get more valuable ice time and experience in Rochester. There's a reason for his lack of ice time in the playoffs last year.

He may be a great guy to hang around with. Great. Make him a stick boy.

He gets 2-3 minutes a game. If it's a one goal game in the third period he may as well take a shower, not that he would need it.

And why do I dislike him? If I must rehash.

1) Keeping him on the roster almost cost this team Pominville.

2) Keeping on the roster did cost us Thorburn.

3) He's an admitted juicer. It may not have been banned but it's the same stuff that may keep Big Mac out of the baseball HOF.

4) He sucks as an "enforcer". Hecht, Connolly and others have taken cheap shots. What has Peters done? Nothing.

5) The Sabres are too close to the Cup to waste a roster spot. They should have as many bodies ready for the playoffs as possible. We all learned that last season. You or I wil see the ice for the Sabres in the playoffs before Peters does.

I have more. How many do you need.

I dislike him so much. That on 'NHL07' I created a player named Bag O'Pucks. Put him on the Blackhawks. Then traded Peters for him.

All right, DeLuca. You've said your piece. Now STFU about Andrew Peters and get off his back!

Yeah DeLuca, quit supporting your opinion with facts ... what do you think this is, an actual discussion? Who told you you could speak.

Come on guys, you push DeLuca's buttons about Peters and then try to tell him he can't have his opinion?

Well since he has to "STFU," I guess I will take my turn.

Like it or not, he is 100% correct when he says Peters will never see the ice in the playoffs ... yeah, Ray rarely saw the ice in the playoffs either, but on a team where the playoffs are all that matters and that is up against the cap, at some point he is going to become obselete. If Connolly was healthy, that time may have already come. Doesn't make him a bad guy or mean that he doesn't try hard ... you can still love him. But don't try to sell us on his merits as anything other than an enforcer. I don't care how much weight he lost or how much better his skating is (and it's still BRUTAL compared to the rest of the team), you can't make a case that he brings more to the table than Paille or Stafford or whoever ... he brings ONE thing to the table, and it is becoming less and less important every day.

BTP, it's one thing when DeLuca makes his point negatively against Peters. It's quite another when he constantly rants against the guy -- and he does so incessantly. Granted, I understand that Peters is about as slow as Stu Grimson. However, the way he constantly trashes the guy makes me wonder if he's better suited for socialist Democratic political apologetics vs. sports.

Lest I forget, every team has its stooge -- no matter how good they are. There is no denying this. I can imagine that Peter LaViolette sat at least one or two of his guys during the 'Canes Stanley Cup run, and Mac T probably did the same with the Oilers.

I just wish DeLuca would enjoy the game instead of getting on his hockey soapbox. After all, who died and made him the Hockey God?

Who are these guys? I can't think of a guy on Carolina or Edmonton who is the equivilent of Peters, last year or this year. I could be wrong, but give me a name, I honestly can't picture that guy.

He's not. He and I are part of the Holy Trinity, along with Herb Brooks. :nana:

I'M KIDDING! Totally kidding. Relax. I shouldn't speak for DeLuca, but I don't think that's his attitude at all. Just because he (and i) can be long-winded and disagree with the majority sometimes doesn't mean we are condescending. It's just frustrating because most of the time we explain ourselves and the response comes back as "Shut up! You're no fun."

Thats 5 games out of 10 where he's gotten at least 5 minutes of ice time, with the most being over 10 minutes. He's playing a bit under 10% of every game with the highest being around 18% of the game.

He's had 7 shots on goal in 10 games, compared to 6 shots in 28 games last year.

Yeah, he's situational, but he is also generating some chances. His game has improved some since last year, and I think Lindy realizes that. He's done a good job of creating energy on the ice, much better then he has in the past.

And why do I dislike him? If I must rehash.

1) Keeping him on the roster almost cost this team Pominville.

2) Keeping on the roster did cost us Thorburn.

Don't blame that on Peters, it isn't his fault that he was on the roster. Blame Lindy/Regier

3) He's an admitted juicer. It may not have been banned but it's the same stuff that may keep Big Mac out of the baseball HOF.

I'm not going to argue this with you, as its a personal ethics thing. I personally feel that its a non-issue as it wasn't illegal by NHL ruesl or FDA rules at the time he used andro.

4) He sucks as an "enforcer". Hecht, Connolly and others have taken cheap shots. What has Peters done? Nothing.

You say that he hasn't done anything as an enforcer, and blame him for this, yet according to you he only gets 2-3 minutes a game. The chances that he's going to play against that exact line are low - the coaches are smart enough to know when the Sabres might use meters and keep their players from going out there.

5) The Sabres are too close to the Cup to waste a roster spot. They should have as many bodies ready for the playoffs as possible. We all learned that last season. You or I wil see the ice for the Sabres in the playoffs before Peters does.

Part of the process of getting bodies ready for the playoffs is getting them ice time, y'know. Peters still will be trusted by Lindy more then a lot of the Rochester players just because he's been up in Buffalo for so long.

I do think that in the playoffs he'll be hard pressed to find playing time - on that point I don't disagree. However, a guy like him who can give you energy when you come out flat is important for the season-long grind.

I have more. How many do you need.

I dislike him so much. That on 'NHL07' I created a player named Bag O'Pucks. Put him on the Blackhawks. Then traded Peters for him.

Most of it so far has been personal preference. Thats fine, but no reason to hate a Sabre. Lindy just happens to see value in him, while you don't.

Yeah but all of that extra time he was on the ice is "Garbage Time", so is apparently any other time he steps on the ice according to Deluca

Lindy Ruff sees something in him and continues to play him. Deluca and others here think he sucks. Obviously the coach of the year from last season is wrong, and a couple guys posting on a Sabres message board no more.

First of all, no one is saying we "no" more than Lindy. Don't put words in our mouth.

Second, Lindy really doesn't have much choice, does he? They have 12 forwards. If he's your 12th guy, and he's not really hurting anything in October, fine, play him. But playing him 5 minutes a game and him being a good player are two different things. If he was a good player, he'd take a regular shift. Instead, he gets replaced for 2/3 of the shifts by a guy that brings a more complete game. So Lindy apparently thinks he is lacking something also.

So again, I'm not saying he serves NO purpose. He CAN indeed bring a spark if they are flat here and there. But it's a small role that much of the time is not needed at all. He is still the worst player on the team and just because he tries hard and is a nice guy doesn't mean we have to pretend he is something he is not and kiss his butt.

First, Chris Neil wanted to put the whole Tucker issue to bed on the opening faceoff last night:

Rugged Senators winger Chris Neil did look for a fight at the opening faceoff as he lined up opposite Tucker and chirped in his ear, but the Leafs winger didn't accept the invitation.

"Kudos to him, he did what he needed to do," Tucker said of Neil. "It doesn't make sense to me to fight a 225-pound guy. I'm going to get walloped and everybody is going to get a good cheer out of it."

I'm on the fence here - I would like to see Paille or Ryan in that roster spot, but I know it's not due to Lindy seeing something in him that we don't. We've already discussed this in the recent past - due to the salary cap, TC's injury and the salaries of Paille and Peters, Andrew was really the only option to keep on the roster. Right now the club is around $50,000 under the cap, and Paille makes more than Peters, has a two-way contract, and could go to the minors without clearing waivers, so Peters stays and Paille goes.

So Ruff's options are: dress Peters (12 forwards & 6 D); dress seven defenseman (and 11 forwards); or scratch Peters outright and leave his team shorthanded. For right now, the team is stuck with him, until they LT-IR Connolly and maybe make another move to free up some cap room. And once the Sabres do free up some room under the cap, someone like Paille or Ryan will likely be back up, and Peters will probably find himself in the press box more often than not.

Unless we are out of players and right at the salary cap, I doubt Peters will see much ice time during the stretch run and in the playoffs this year, so I hope the team can get guys like Paille and Ryan (or whoever) up here so they can get their feet wet before the playoffs...

I am stealing this. But, "I call BullZhit".

The ROC has 20 players. So yes. A lot of those players would not catch Lindy's eye. But last year in the playoffs every player available palyed except Peters.

I can say without doubt that Ruff would rather have Paille in the lineup rather than Peters. If Connolly was healthy I doubt Peters would even be a part of the franchise at this point.

If I may say.

Thanks to those like BTP and others who at least take time to read my posts and try to understand them. I do consider myself a "fact person". If Peters turns into an NHL hockey player I will be in line to pat him on the back. I think I have proved that with Regier. Don't tell me Peters is a hockey player. Peters has to prove it. At this time Peters has done nothing to prove it. I really hate seeing others misssing out in their NHL dreams while a player who does not have the talent holds a spot.

I am not a "feel good story" person. I am not a Rob Ray fan. I like hockey players who are tough but can also play hockey. I was a huge Mike Hartman fan. He could have his 300+ minutes in penalties but chip in 10 goals a year. Brad May, the Sabres greatest heavyweight has 123 NHL goals including the "May Day" goal.

Sorry if my standards are too high. But Peters does not measure up. ;)

Demanding an enforcer to get "Brad May" like production doesn't seem like too much to ask. (Too bad May never lived up to his billing, but that's a different story for another day)

I dislike him so much. That on 'NHL07' I created a player named Bag O'Pucks. Put him on the Blackhawks. Then traded Peters for him.

That was the funniest thing I've seen you write since the "unleashing wolverines at intermission" comment.

You know this one:

Let's all buy Sabre tickets out of spite? That way they won't finish in the bottom eight in revenue and collect revenue sharing.

Do you think if ticket sales are too high they would do something to discourage fans? Maybe release wolverines into the crowd in between periods?

4) He sucks as an "enforcer". Hecht, Connolly and others have taken cheap shots. What has Peters done? Nothing.

Definitely some merit here. Although I'm sure Lindy keeps the reigns pretty tight with Anjuice, I have to wonder when is he going to blast some fool in the dome for all the BS that we see on a regular basis. Especially, the likes of Ottawa, Toronto, Philly and the like. All throughout the playoffs last year, I was counting the days until this season where we could get some old fashion retribution but it seems like I'm the only one who gives a rats ass about teams taking liberties with our players.

Peters. 2006 playoff shift total : 0

More proof will come when the Sabres decide to put Connolly on IR and free up money to add Paille onto the roster.

Maybe you are right. Why would Ruff want a player on the roster who would give him four solid lines he can roll. A player that can kill penalties play on the power play and can score? A player he doesn't have to bench in the third period of close games. Why would Lindy want a multi-talented player on his roster when he has a player like Peters who does so many things. None of which I can think of at the moment.

I can see it now: If Tom Golisano were to sell the team, DeLuca would buy the Sabres in a heartbeat and have Peters put on waivers immediately. That's how deep his hatred is for Andrew Peters.

Having said all that, I'm going to do my best to ignore DeLuca's anti-Peters rants from now on.

Once again, my apologies for saying "STFU". Cursing goes against my beliefs, and it was way more unprofessional than Peters' golf swing back in April against the Leafs.
