inkman Posted yesterday at 06:31 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:31 PM So when Entercom changed its name to Audacy, I didn’t think much of it. As we’ve gotten used to the change I still can’t get past the fact that the people they hire for the ads pronounce it “Odyssey”. Come to find out with the Google, it’s meant to be pronounced like Odyssey. Outside of the central Pennsylvania, does anyone actually pronounce it that way. It sure looks like it should be pronounced aw-da-see. Is it a WNY thing? I know the nasally Rochester accent can impact these things. I just feel like I’m going crazy every time I hear their commercials. Quote
Eleven Posted yesterday at 06:35 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:35 PM They wanted it to be similar to "Odyssey" but they weren't going to be able to trademark that. And "Audacy" has similarities to "audio." Smart branding, IMO, even if they're annoying. All of the ads I hear have the AWD rather than the ODD sound on the first syllable. Quote

You made the point that stuck in my craw. It sounds like audio, but not spelled like audio. Kind of sounded like they were saying Audicy…but maybe that’s a Rochester problem. Quote
shrader Posted yesterday at 06:46 PM Report Posted yesterday at 06:46 PM I always enjoy awful company names. Here's a few I see all the time: - Some big bank merger down here has created a bank named Truist. I don' have much to say about it, but it's a stupid name. - A bank up in Boston near my mother-in-law's is called Salem Five Bank. Each time I see it, I always think it sounds more like the group of people robbing the bank. Why is it always the banks with dumb names? - We have two garbage removal companies down here named Junk Doctors and Backwoods Junk Removal. The jokes write themselves with these names. 1 Quote
BuffRaleigh Posted yesterday at 07:25 PM Report Posted yesterday at 07:25 PM When they first switched, I couldn't stop calling it Audacity, LOL. Still AUD though! 1 Quote

PASabreFan Posted yesterday at 07:50 PM Report Posted yesterday at 07:50 PM So in "The Aud was an odd building," Aud and odd are not, in WNY, pronounced the same? 1 Quote

The second a in the name is, indeed, mispronounced to sound like a short i. 1 hour ago, shrader said: Truist This would instantly breed distrust in me. Quote

If that’s your family name, you probably shouldn’t use it in th company name. Quote
