Which current Sabres is part of the solution? Who is part of the problem?

Agree with "compete for a playoff spot", maybe not get there, but they should be in the hunt.  

Since they came home from the Cali trip they have completely fallen apart.  Its like they need the routine that travel provides. Lots of their off ice time is planned out.  They get home and they lose focus.  They cant get a good start,  they cant play 60 minutes, they panic and cant finish - what is distracting them?  Most teams thrive on home ice, even average teams.  Bring in a team psychologist.  

Losing close games and blowing leads says something about the players. Words like leadership and accountability are still just slogans to many payers on this team.  Something has to change and it has to come from within the players.

It’s all well and good to say this but historical president doesn’t render it realistic 

again, 2 teams spending in bottom 10 have made playoffs in last 10 years. This is a ridiculously compelling statistical trend that suggest “buck up and play better” isn’t realistic

once you add the handcuff of youth, when the youngest team ALSO statistically doesn’t make the playoffs, and I think it’s clear we need to look to construction

There are only 2 players on the current roster that can not be part of the solution.  Jokiharju and Bryson, neither should be on an NHL roster for anyone except bottom feeders 

all others can be part of the solution - the reality is that this team is average with a healthy Dahlin in the lineup   I have to wonder if he has the highest value to his team in the entire league   I know that sounds crazy but with him they are average, without him - the Sharks look like juggernauts in comparison

he leaves with injury up 4-1 vs the Avs and 20 mins without him they get outscored 4-0    Then go onto lose 8 in a row without him   He'll, maybe he is underplayed at $11 million 

so, you become avg again once he returns   If they can add another top 4 partner to pair with Power, I think they could be a top 12 team in the league   BUT you have to rid yourself of Jokiharju and probably trade away a forward off the roster (plus prospects / picks) to get that top 4 dman 

The biggest question then becomes , is Adams capable of making such a trade ?

Dahlin might be the most underrated player the Sabres have by many on this board.  As you said, the difference between this team with him and without him is very noticable.

When you listen to broadcasts that aren't Buffalo based, such as the out of town feed or the national feed....or listen to out of town hockey shows (the National stuff out of Toronto/590...even though it still is Leaf's biased), there is one thing that i notice. When they talk about the Sabres, a lot of it centers around how good Dahlin and Thompson are...and why the rest of the 'young' guys around them haven't stepped up. Almost to the point where many fans/reporters around the league think the Sabres are 'wasting' Dahlin and Thompson.

Now we know Thompson is the best scorer on this team. I like him a lot, but even I will admit his overall game isn't stellar.  I don't think he's a liability without the puck like others day, but he does make mistakes. Dahlin on the other hand, I wonder how many of his mistakes this year are a result of him playing hurt, covering for someone else's mistake, or pushing too hard/taking too many chances becuase SOMETHING has to happen?

I'm not saying Dahlin is perfect. But he just may be a top 10-20 player in the league who looks like a 50-100th best player in the league because of what he does on this roster.

You can’t know who will be part of the solution until you have the right people in place above the team.

1) Terry needs to F the Hell off. He needs to realize he has no clue what he’s doing and FINALLY realize he needs vet NHL people in here to guide the ship and make the decision. A Ken Holland type at the top. And they don’t need Terry’s input everyday. Back off and let them cook.

2) Let him hire a competent vet GM, someone respected that can attract quality assistant GMs. Then hire a quality coach who is respected and can attract quality assistant coaches.

3) Let them figure out a vision and path forward. Once that is completed then you can start deciding who among this group can be part of the solution.

4) All of this is only possible if Terry opens up the purse strings to allow it to happen.

Kinda like Samson and Jack.  Hopefully, Dahlin doesn't get run out of town too
