Well 'Becks' is going out of MLS football on top ...

http://www.cbc.ca/sp...ham-dynamo.html

And it seems that the best player the US has ever produced, IMO, is contemplating retirement as well.

Say it isn't so Landon, at least not until you lead the States into Brazil in 2014. Please make a good showing at that WC and then retire, if you want.

=====

Two more goals for Messi ...

http://www.cbc.ca/sp...d-atletico.html

One more and the calendar year goal scoring record is tied.

Looks like only a matter of time until that record, which has stood since 1972, broken.

I'll take Dempsey over Donovan any day.

With the calendar goal scoring record within easy reach ...

Anyone else think that someone(s) doesn't(don't) want to see that record broken ... .

This, to me, seems to be akin to what a lot of NBA fans are like. They follow players, not teams; they follow the stars. There is, of course, nothing wrong with this, but it's just not "normal" to me.

Regarding whom I followed, as a soccer player myself, I always felt that I wanted to expose my eyes to the very best, because fine Soccer was so rare in my country (USA).

My feelings were that the US team were the excrement at the foot of Soccer Mountain. The were hoof and chase neanderthals in a Game that was supposed to be Beautiful. It didn't take a mathematician to figure that I had better watch the better players from elsewhere.

Alas, wanting to be good must be sustained and fostered and even nurtured, alas.

Well, Messi has done it, with 2 goals today ...

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2012/12/09/sp-soccer-la-liga-barcelona-lionel-messi-scoring-record.html

He has broken so many records this year it really is quite amazing.

IMO, we are watching the best ever. And, at only 25 years old, who knows what else he may achieve.

I'm calling it now ... he will lead Argentina to WC glory in 2014.

I absolutely hate this part of football ...

http://www.cbc.ca/sp...ter-united.html

The game is beautiful, IMO, but many of the *fans* are just plain ugly.

I'm really impressed that guy could hit Ferdinand with a coin. I know that's not the right message to take away from this but he hit him in the face from at LEAST 15 yards away. That's crazy

I think I read somewhere that it was essentially a buckshot approach.

Well, NS, looks like your Manchester City experience is going to get a lot closer to home:

http://www.bloomberg...ueens-team.html

This is silly, of course; until the level of play in MLS rises above what would be League One in England, no amount of money is going to help. Our best players will still prefer to compete in Europe against the world's best. (Except Landon Donovan, who prefers not to compete at all unless in an international match.)

No he won't.......Argentina has a terrible Defence and suspect midfield.......He didn't do anything in the last world cup, zip.......He doesn't play well with his national team, he holds the ball to much, because the team doesn't have the Barcelona approach or skill level.

This has got to be some kind of bad joke, right?

This billionaire owner of Man City has a lot of $ to through around. He basically bought the Premiership title last year after spending millions on player transfers.

The Premiership is a joke. The biggest teams can carry huge deficits, contrary to the rules and no one cares, so long as the $ keep flowing.

The losses at Man City are dropping so the owner probably wants to increase those in NYC. Wait until he realizes the level of play in MLS. Oh wait, he won't care.

In the end, if it does come about, Mansour will own the NYC FC, not Man C.

Three more! Norwich is now two points away from whatever they're calling the UEFA Cup this week, and one more away from a possible Champions League spot.

Six weeks ago, I was worried about relegation. Now, they've won six out of their last ten, and drew the other four.
