X. Benedict
Geez, it seems like yesterday. The 82-83 Sabres are still one of my favorite teams all-time. Bowman tipped his hand to the future of the game with active d-men in the offensive zone. And Mike Ramsey, Phil Housley, Virta, all started peppering goal Pete Peters through mobs of traffic. And Lindy switched between wing and point with a broken hand. They were just outfoxed by opportunistic Bruins Veterans. The only team left at the time that would occasionally still have 5 skaters out w/o helmets.

The irony of it all that Bren Petersen, one of the best face off specialists of his era and a guy that would later spend a lot of his coaching career teaching the art of face offs, would be beaten so cleanly. That Aud Smell
i cried like a baby following that goal. what can i say: it was the right sort of stomach punch hitting me in the right spot, at the right age (i was a kid). i can recall the goal in excruciating detail -- ramsay's tip -- sauve's recovery and save turning into a fall -- a third sabre (who?) scrambled to push the puck back under sauve -- but somehow sent it back to park -- game, series over. it was because of that game, that memory, that i (unexpectedly and uncharacteristically) got up and danced on the god*amn bar of a sports tavern on boston's comm ave. in 1993 -- i was still hooting with delight as the proprietor tossed me out through the front door. in the pictures that were taken at my graduation a couple of weeks later, you can see faint traces of the scabs that formed over the nasty scrape that i took on the left side of my face. good, no - the best times. It's crazy ... doesn't it seem like so many of the OT series-deciding goals against the Sabres have been odd plays/scrambles? Not often can we just tip our caps and say "That was just a great play." ... Brad Park, George Ferguson, Joe Juneau, Brett Hull, Brind'Amour (not OT, but still), Kasparaitis (not a scramble but ... how many times does he beat Hasek from there?) ... I guess Alfredsson last year was a good shot but that series was over either way... the sudden ending of the others was just killer. I guess every franchise has a list like this but ... man does it suck.

You are mistaken, I'm sure that game was like two weeks ago...maybe last season, not anywhere near 25 years ago. That can't be. It just can't. It was my first frozen time moment in hockey. Park scored and I was frozen in my seat staring at the tv for 10 solid minutes in disbelief. It just didn't compute the game was actually over and the Sabres had lost. And ya know who the guy between the pipes was for Buffalo, right? He had two shutouts against Montreal in the series before. Game six: And yes Virginia there will be a seventh game! Oh damn, where does life go?

Chief Enabler
I was 7 years old at the time, so that's a very fuzzy memory... My Bills memories of Joe Ferguson & Jerry Butler were prevalent to me, as well the Buffalo Stallions!
ExiledInIllinois
I was 15 and everytime I hear (they played right after... What was the cable tv in Buffalo at that time?) this song, I think of that team: That team would summarily be broken up... Not unlike what has just happened, but in a more dramatic 7 game OT series ender! I don't think "No Goal" was as painful! If somebody can find that James Ingram Sabres montage... That would be so cool!

deluca67
This topic has brought back a flood of Sabre memories. God, I love this team. The Sabres shutting out Montreal twice in a row in the forum. Wasn't that Sauve? Tuckers penalty shot. The f**king Nordiques. Brad Park? That was a great series. I do miss the Adams Division. Every team hated every other team.

Like SDS said about the "othe shoe" a few years back... It always seems to drop!
