Ryan O'Reilly - Get Him At All Costs - Who Do You Trade
Robviously replied to CallawaySabres's topic in Archive
He's 35 years old. Going after him now would be so pathetic and sad. It would actually make Black Sunday even worse somehow. -
Fine with me. I don't want him playing for the Amerks or the Sabres until this Fall.

I'm pretty sure once a guy's CHL season is over, the age rule for the AHL doesn't matter and he can play there. Every now and then you see CHL players joining AHL teams as teenagers for their playoff runs.

Ryan O'Reilly - Get Him At All Costs - Who Do You Trade

No, if anyone here believes in magic, it's you. Just trade Miller/Vanek/Pominville for prospects and picks and we're sure to turn around, right? Most of the guys you mentioned are too old to really be considered prospects, and the prospects aren't all that spectacular either. These trades won't help unless we get the right players in return. Otherwise we're just trading Campbell for Steve Bernier again. I don't want to get younger if the younger players we're getting suck. If I'm looking to trade Pominville, I'm probably looking at New Jersey. They were in the Finals last year and are trying to win right now with a 40 year old Martin Brodeur. So their window of opportunity is closing and they're 20th in goals/game. Pominville for Adam Larsson and Stefan Matteau. They get a lot better this year and we get a lot worse, but it should help us later. We get a new franchise defenseman in Larsson and a future power forward for our no.2/3 lines in Matteau (along with the risk that neither player pans out). With Larsson in the mix, we suddenly have a lot more flexibility if we're thinking about trading Myers (or another defenseive prospect) for someone like ROR. -

Anything is better than Connolly, but isn't George McFly too good for the non-avatar people? -

I wouldn't sign up to attend a 7-1 loss, but I'd sign up to watch a 7-1 game where it's a coin flip which team is going to win. Plus, even if we were down 5-0 after one period, at least they'd finally have no excuse not to put Grigorenko in there for a ton of ice time. -

1. Complaining is more fun than praising. 2. Also, last night's game was horribly boring. It was 2-1. In most GDTs, every time the Sabres score there's a page of celebratory posts. Check out the 6-3 win over the Bruins. I'd sign up for a 7-1 game right now. Win or lose, it'll be fun to watch. -

So what are the actual trades? Do you want one player back for each of these guys? Two? And do you think any of these prospects have ceilings anywhere close to what Pominville, Vanek, and Miller are right now? Brendan Smith from Detriot? Matt Read from Philly? Marc Staal from NYR? These guys are 24, 26, and 26, respectively. Closer to finished products than prospects and not nearly as good as what we're trading. Couterier and JT Miller are what we'd want but neither guy is nearly good enough to be the centerpiece to one of these deals. (Seriously how fast would the Flyers take Miller for Couterier and a draft pick? Same goes for Vanek or Pominville.) -

No, you've just been advocating it relentlessly for a few weeks. Huge difference there. <_< -

No, I think there could be one or two possibilities for trading Pominville, Vanek, or Miller that would make us better in the long run AND make sense for the team we're trading with. I just want to see if any of the posters demanding that we move these players for "prospects and picks" can identify any of them or if they're just thoughtlessly demanding that we trade our best players BECAUSE. I asked for realistic proposals a few days ago and, predictably, I haven't seen one yet. So you have no idea who we could or should acquire for these players but are demanding that we trade them anyway to help the team? Yeah, makes sense. <_< -

Sekera's intermission interview. On who got the team pumped up after TB went up 1-0: "Everyone on the team is a leader." I know athlete-speak is a special language designed to tell us absolutely nothing, but that's insane even for athlete-speak. -

That would help us from a draft standpoint at least. -

Stamkos gets on the board less than two minutes in. Does anyone still want to argue with me that having top draft picks is good for your team? -

So propose a realistic trade involving Pominville, Vanek, or Miller that will make the Sabres better in the long term. -

I'm thinking the Sabres finally win tonight, but who the hell knows? -
To put this in perspective, Ray Emory is 8-0-0 for them this year. They're good enough to make Ray Emory look like a star.
-
I assume they wanted this tweet to sound reassuring, but it just sounds horrifying. Head injuries are really making me wonder if I'll be able to enjoy sports all that much in the future.
-
Jim Nill. He sounds pretty good based on that (small) write-up. I also like the sound of the Toronto guy they mentioned (Claude Loiselle). Basically I want someone smart from outside the organization who has a vision and the guts to make it a reality. This should be a desirable job given the market and the owner. Nice screen name, BTW. ("Wildcard, ######!")
-
Oh, I agree that they're better set up for the future than we are. No doubt in my mind. But right now, on the ice, they're still worse than we are.
-
The trade deadline is April 3rd. It's unclear who our GM will be at that point.
-
The worst part is watching the guys who DO care get frustrated and start making dumb mistakes.
-
1. We're not going to finish last. Columbus is even worse than we are. 2. Even if we did finish last and then lost the draft lottery, the 2nd overall pick will still be a great player this year. There still isn't even a consensus between Jones and MacKinnon.
