Game Discussion Thread GDT: New Jersey @ Buffalo 3PM 3/2/13

LOL @ Henrique U mad bro? -
February 2006: Thomas Vanek does his patented "'Round the World" move on Dominik Hasek in the shootout and completely freezes him. Note to Tom: You can bust this move out again sometime. It's still completely rad.
-
Seriously, NO. Bringing back Briere will not magically bring back 2006. It's time to move on.

Their GM is actually Darcy Regier's little brother, Larcy. -

I'm wondering if Colorado wouldn't prefer some (most?) of the trades proposed in this thread to that, honestly. -

Can't decide if I want to comment on the anthem singer or the empty arena. -

Also, how pumped up are you if you're a Calgary player right now? You might have ROR on the way to help you and management basically just said that the team is so good that they aren't worried about the 1st round pick this summer (because it's going to be late in the first round anyway). -

Robviously replied to CallawaySabres's topic in Archive
Because we'd be losing a top ten draft pick, possibly a top five pick if we really tank. Given the choice, I'd probably rather have a top five pick than ROR. But who knows? If we end up drafting 12th overall, I'm going to wish we signed ROR. -

The Sabres' handling of Grigorenko has been moronic from the start. They apparently kept him because they needed a forward to help them win now but never really thought about who should be playing with as an 18 year old in the NHL. Now they're keeping him around so that he can work with their skating coach. -

Awesome move for Calgary. If you're drafting in the teens in the first round, why not get ROR? -

Wow, awesome burn, bro. This from the guy demanding that we acknowledge that Gerbe is a good NHL player in spite of what his career stats say. Silly me for thinking you relying on wishful thinking and not hard logic. I also like that your argument rests on what you think other people "would say" in the event of a 1-0 loss with Enroth in net. Both that you dreamed up a very specific imaginary scenario and that you know exactly what everyone else would say in the event of that scenario. (We'd all blame Gerbe, Hecht, and Enroth for the loss. Obviously.) Can you give us any other details about this imaginary game that is apparently critical to your Paul Hamilton Syndrome thesis? Also, given your clairvoyance that allows you to know in advance what everyone "would say" in any scenario, why even bother reading the board? -

No, you definitely weren't using my logic. Gerbe was struggling last year before he got hurt. And why are you talking about the "last two weeks" when I just posted his career numbers? At this point you're just wish-casting that Gerbe is going to be a special player in the NHL. He's not good enough to be a Top 6 forward and he's too small to be effective on any type of two-way checking line. So where is he supposed to fit in on a contender? -

I don't even like Stafford but he scored goals as soon as he showed up in the NHL -- 13 goals in 41 games his first year in the league and more goals/season every year since. Then there's Gerbe. He's 25 years old (meaning he's about as good as he's going to be) and has 62 points in 164 games. He's a completely one-dimensional player whose one dimension -- scoring -- isn't happening in the NHL. Grigorenko is 18 and Foligno is 21 so I have no idea why you're dragging them into this. -

...WHAT? Gerbe has't succeeded because Lindy wouldn't let him? Ruff played Gerbe when Gerbe was producing (i.e. the two months where that applied) and played him less when that stopped. He was struggled last year and then got hurt. So far this year, he's accomplished almost nothing. Everyone loves Gerbe for having heart and being the little guy trying to make it in the NHL, but it isn't working. -

Gerbe might be the most ineffective forward on the team right now so I guess I'm not seeing all the amazing opportunities he's been generating lately. Hecht isn't a defensive liability but he's not exactly shutting down the other team's best players either. Has Hecht actually impressed you on the ice this year? He's just sort of there. -

Robviously replied to CallawaySabres's topic in Archive
I wouldn't laugh at that one. Adam is basically worthless to us, so why not throw him in? OK, so now we're trading Stafford and Sekera for O'Reilly and a 2nd round pick. ROR is the best player involved in that trade and we're getting a top 50 draft pick. I'm fine with that one. I'd probably ask for a 4th rounder too since we don't have one there this year. -

I don't even know what Hecht's game is anymore. Bringing him back was pretty clearly a mistake at this point. As for Foligno, yeah, he's not exactly playing his game but he's still at the age where he's supposed to be finding his game. And people are making it out like he's been awful this year when he's still been one of our better forwards. How many points would he (and Ennis) have if Stafford had buried some of those chances they've been setting him up for all year? -

Robviously replied to JJFIVEOH's topic in Archive
Yeah, well, except for the part that he has more points and hits than both of those two players combined. And that he's younger, bigger, and stronger than both of them. Sixth on the team in points at the ripe old age of 21 and with 34 NHL games under his belt. Are people really down on Foligno already? -

Paul Hamilton @pham1717 Looks like Foligno and Brennan are the healthy scratches. Scott is playing Foligno is a healthy scratch but Scott is playing. This is the point where I wonder if I'm going to actually watch the game. (Also, please tell me this doesn't mean they're finalizing a Foligno trade.) -

+1. Solid, succinct analysis of what tonight means. -
Yeah, but Armia suffered two concussions this season in Finland about a month apart. With that in mind, I'd rather he finished out his season with Assat and then enjoyed his summer rather than zoom over to North America for his first taste of professional hockey here. He could be a huge part of our future and I'd rather play it safe with him than hope he could come over as a 19 year old and do something for us at the very end of the season. Plus, I think the Sabres are already guilty of rushing Grigorenko. I'm not psyched about rushing the other super talented forward in our system too.
