  1. Uh, yeah, except that this significantly increases the chances of him making a crazy trade to save his ass. Desperate people generally don't make good decisions.
  2. I'm immortal so it's all the same to me.
  3. Wasn't that basically how we scored in the first period?
  4. Team is adding a bunch of young players starting next year. Could be fun to watch.
  5. It's mind-blowing that he's still around.
  6. I love how EVERY SEAT in the four rows behind the benches is empty. WTF, Toronto?
  7. You can build a team with an identity without drafting only one type of player. I don't think anyone wants the team to only draft one type of player. That said, the Sabres have never put a premium on size/strength/toughness and it shows on the ice.
  8. I don't have the photoshop skills, but it's such simple idea that I just use my imagination. Color in the white parts of the current road jersey with yellow. Also, what else is there to do with an alternate jersey? Just another blue jersey but with "BUFFALO" on the chest? Yellow would be completely new but would mesh perfectly with our current set and with the team's history.
  9. How long does it take to go from terrible to contender? In most sports, about 3 years or less. So what is a plausible Vanek trade that gets us closer to the Cup than just re-signing him and having him here for 6-7 more years? Keep in mind, the teams with the best prospects are building for the future (i.e. not trading for a veteran whose contract expires after next year) and the current contenders don't have a ton to offer in terms of future assets.
  10. Completely disagree. I like the way the Preds look in those. Also this:
  11. Basically, although we'd still have different striping than we used to (i.e. the big yellow stripe with thinner blue stripes around it). I'm also adamant that the B with a sword through it be on the shoulders since that would tie together elements from ALL the uniforms in our history. And a yellow alternate that is basically just the white jersey with yellow/white flipped is a no-brainer.
  12. THE problem with the Sabres is Regier, as far as I can tell. Another problem, though, is that the shade of blue we're using is way too dark. Navy blue is one thing but we're approaching the Yankees' midnight blue. I have a plasma TV and our uniforms basically look black until you get a close-up shot. Is there anyone who prefers this blue to the royal blue we used in the 40th anniversary uniforms? Fix the blue and drop all the silver/gray from the uniform (e.g. the weird, unnecessary silver piping; the gray armpit blobs; the silver outlines around EVERYTHING in the logo). The whole design process should take about 11 minutes and we'd have the best uniforms we've ever had. Oh, and put a yellow B (the same B from the 40th anniversary script) with a sword through it (same sword from the logo) on each shoulder. Should take like 8 more minutes. Done.
  13. Ask them in a couple years when that talent is in their prime. There's a horrible trade.
  14. It's not eagerness; it's recognition that he's an asset that could net us something valuable in return.
  15. Best player available becomes a tough strategy once you're past the top 5 or 10. After that point, everyone becomes something of a question mark and each team's idea of "best player available" is based on what they value. There's only one year (2009) where the team clearly put a premium on players with a combination of size, strength, and toughness.
  16. We need a Scott versus Orr rematch because that fight was a debacle for us.
  17. Tearing down a building is not the same thing as having a plan for a new building. The Sabres' biggest problem for years has been that Darcy Regier has no vision for what he wants his team to be or how he plans on winning a Stanley Cup. Are we building a fast team? A tough team? A big team? A team with a high powered offense? A team with a shut down defense? What? We drafted toughness in 2009. Then stopped. Then traded Kassign for Hodgson. Then decided we needed toughness again so we got Ott and Scott. The Sabres basically run around in circles and change what they're going for from year to year without any broader vision of how this is all supposed to win the Stanley Cup someday.
  18. It'd be more about finding out what he can do. He's played with the wrong linemates basically his entire time with the Sabres.
  19. It's also funny how flexible he is. His beliefs are pretty much whatever allow him to complain the most that week.
  20. I would do this, but the Sabres forgot to call me about being the new coach: Vanek-Coho-Pommer Grigo-Ennis-Stafford Ott-Porter-Foligno Gerbe-Hecht-Kaleta Grigorenko isn't a lock to be a good player or even an NHL player though. I have to keep reminding myself this. He could end up totally sucking. Maybe all those teams that passed on him thought something was amiss besides the mono.
  21. Yeah, but like I said earlier today, Vanek, Pominville, and Miller are all playing well anyway. Let's see how the rest of the team responds.
