The (fake) quote read to him was that Kaleta hoped the "players" would want him back, which completely changes the context and meaning and explains why Miller thought he was being "dramatic." I definitely think the big misquote had a role in this, especially given how frustrated Miller was after that loss.

You're right, I screwed that up. In any event, if we trade Pominville and Miller, are they the last ties to the 2006 team we all loved so much? Would that officially close the book on the most exciting year in Sabres history while I've been alive? Vanek was around but not really part of the team and I don't think of 2013 Hecht as the same person as 2006 Hecht. He's more machine now than man. Twisted and evil.

The point about Connolly, Roy, and Gaustad would have a lot more merit if Connolly wasn't in the AHL and Gaustad wasn't having an awful season with the Predators now looking to move him. I guess you could say we miss Roy, but he wasn't really a part of the runs where we were actually playing well the last few years. I miss Campbell but I don't think we were in a position to give him the contract he ended up getting (although Steve Bernier was definitely the wrong guy to acquire in that trade). Tallinder hasn't been awesome for NJ and Lydman is 35 now. I think lousy trades and missed opportunities are the culprit here. We didn't trade Connolly at the deadline when he had value and instead gave him a 2 year extension. Steve Bernier was a big swing and a miss in the Campbell trade. We should have sold high on Drew Stafford a couple years back. And maybe we should have thought about moving Tallinder or Lydman instead of just letting them walk. The part where we were stuck in mediocrity for years means we never did a full-blown rebuild.

I doubt he'd sign that. A two year deal similar to what O'Reilly got, and then he plays for the big 8 year contract.

The draft is a trip to the grocery store. Even if you buy all the right stuff, you aren't guaranteed a good meal. There are a lot more steps in the process. You basically draft BPA and construct your final product much later with separate moves.
