I doubt that. If they were planning on buying him out, why not just complete whatever trade (trades?) they were close to with him today and drop him that way? They'd have saved money and gotten something in return. I think they're hoping he turns it around. And based on Leopold's comments about the morose nature of the locker room, I'm thinking Stafford is someone we should have moved ASAP just to have him gone. I doubt he's helping things behind the scenes.

If they really traded Forsberg, why the hell weren't we in on that?

If we were trading them Miller, I had visions of Filip Forsberg in my head. If it was Stafford, a draft pick would be just fine.

Now it's sounding like it was just the Pominville deal. Pretty depressing if we're not involved with Washington on something.

Sabres traded up to land Girgensons at 14th overall. They almost certainly think he has Top 6 potential. Foligno is either a 2nd or 3rd liner. I'm really hoping for big things from Girgensons. I don't think I would have traded up for him. We could have sat at no.21 overall and scooped up Samuelsson or Matteau (both of whom have similar potential and went a few picks later). I did like the Sabres being proactive about getting the guy they really wanted though.

He doesn't have a NTC. He submitted a list of 8 teams he wouldn't go to. There's no telling if Columbus was one of those.

I'd be more interested if we were keeping our third round pick, but I like this better than the Eller idea from yesterday. Johansen would be another Hodgson-like pick-up, just on the cusp of being ready to be a solid NHL player. It's tough though because I know so little about him. Would love to know about intangibles like work ethic, leadership, etc.
