Game discussion thread GDT: Penguins at Sabres 12:30PM 2-17-13

###### you, PA. I'm not going to be the whiney ###### during postgame. It's always ###### you ###### this team ###### the GM ###### the coach ###### the owner ###### the fans ###### the arena ###### the scouts for not drafting Orpik ###### the end boards for being too bouncy ###### pucks for being made of rubber and bouncing off of sticks ###### the zamboni driver ###### that. This team will get better and it will leave you behind. I'm an optimist and I'll enjoy watching it get better. Edit: And Miller's still looking good, but he needs better support off of rebounds. -

Back to back solid games. Even with the mistakes today, we're still in better shape than a week ago. Myers played better again. Ehrhoff played great. Gerbe got a little better. Hodgson scored a big one. Ott turned in a perfect performance. Kaleta demonstrated a lot of growth as a PKer against some of the league's best. I thought Ennis was great with the puck at both ends, but still needs some work away from the puck in the D zone. Moving in the right direction. I want to murder Leo for not picking up Dupuis on the 3-3 tying goal. -

It's the source of his puck handling abilities, which are also figuratively getting out of control. -

McCabe's stock has gone up a lot in the last year. I'd like to see him finish at Wisconsin, maybe play a year in the A, and go from there. That's not to say I couldn't trade him, but he wouldn't be first on the list of youngins to go. -

Again, for what it sounds like they're asking, I'm not sure why we're not offer-sheeting with a 1,2,3 pick. The players we'd give up (for example Stafford and Brennan, or something) could easily get the 1,2,3 pick returned from somewhere else if we wanted it. I wouldn't put it past Regier to fetch at least a 2nd rounder at the deadline for Leopold. Maybe Colorado has indicated they'd match at that level, but then they would have to be ok with a potentially unhappy marriage for a year. -

Looking for Myers to build off of his strong, confident Bruins game. -

I get the sense that both Darcy and Colorado want to get something done, but Colorado may be asking too much or for the wrong parts for Regier's liking. It seems like Colorado could be trying to set a seller's market and their prices have been too high so far for most of the interested parties. If they were being more reasonable, you'd think there'd have been a deal by now between Colorado and some team. The longer this goes on, the more it's feasible that the market cools, and some team ends up with a reasonable exchange for O'Reilly. Del Zotto's been looking good for NYR, led D with 41 points last year, 3rd in minutes, 2nd in +/-. Seeing as NYR has very little forward depth and a good pool of young defensemen, I could see why this was being discussed. -

Craig Button and Darryl Sutter weren't exactly model GMs and Jay Feaster is probably the worst of the three.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Sekera, the defense corps need him intact and skating well.

Credit to Ruff for his work with Myers this week. Ruff identified Myers' problem with confidence, executed a plan to improve the situation, and if the last game is any indication (1G, 2A), it seems to be working. I hope Myers continues to build off of this personal victory. In before "does not fit narrative."

I've observed the same differences in feed choice that you have (DirecTV > Dish Network > better digital cable > worse digital cable ~ FiOS). Not sure why.

Ryan O'Reilly - Get Him At All Costs - Who Do You Trade
IKnowPhysics replied to CallawaySabres's topic in Archive
These prophecies sound strangely self fulfilling- if you think a player's good enough to keep, then you must trade him. If you find it desirable to trade a player, then no one will accept him in trade. This assumes that other hockey organizations value what we value, possibly a poor assumption, let alone the idea that we think we know what the Sabres value. Would YOU have traded Regehr, Kotalik, and a 2nd away for Paul Byron and Chris Butler? I wouldn't have, but I'm not Jay Feaster (thank Christ), and I wasn't in salary cap jail. I can't begin to imagine what Colorado is looking for in what reports are calling a "top six forward and a top prospect." -
Ryan O'Reilly - Get Him At All Costs - Who Do You Trade
IKnowPhysics replied to CallawaySabres's topic in Archive
At this current juncture, I value Ennis' contributions and potential moreso than O'Reilly's. Not necessarily at center because it's too early to make the call on Ennis at that role, but as a top six forward, I prefer Ennis. Ennis (a former 1st round pick) and a top prospect (another 1st round pick) for O'reilly (a former 1st round pick) is too much to me. Tack on what O'Reilly's camp is indicating for salary requirements (more than Stafford money) AND the fact he's had only one decent year, and we're getting pretty risky. Then throw on the fact that he's not under contract and that you lose your traded players to COL regardless of whether he signs and only (maybe) gain back conditional picks if he doesn't, and this thing is sheer lunacy. If you really want this guy, you go the offer sheet route and make it under $5.05M to use the 1,2,3 picks. That way, if COL matches, no tangible loss to your club. If they don't, you're only out 1,2,3 picks, which are both recoupable in other actions AND worth a lot less than a well-developing Ennis and a top prospect. -
Badgers have used Enter Sandman for years; it's a good way to be. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wgOb_8no5c I always thought Kickstart My Heart would work well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4aob4zlhIk&t=00m28s

Game Discussion Thread GDT: Boston at Sabres 7PM 2-15-13

Sabres are 7-5 against Boston at home in the 2010's, 2-1 last year. -
Yes, because we should assume Colorado may not know what the ###### they're doing.

This all jives. There's other players on the roster we should sell out before Ennis. He's 4th on the team in scoring, was 6th last year (with only 48GP!), and 5th in his rookie year. Ennis has proven that he's at minimum a top six forward and I can think he would have a long, productive career with Buffalo. I don't like the idea of selling off an offensive piece that could end up being a better compliment to whom our centers will likely be in three years (Hodgson, Grigorenko, Girensens, [O'Reilly?]) than our current wingers, Vanek and Pominville excluded.
