  1. Tonight if skies clear it possible to see northern lights in southwestern Ontario western New York best in dark area around midnight
  2. bread just out of the oven, fresh and hot, butter just melts on spreading , wonderful taste sensation, along with first corn on the cob, going out to field picking some , popping it into pot of boiling water a few minutes, slathering it with butter and a bit of salt, sitting in the farmyard on the benches , family together munching away each with corn and butter all over the mouth but not caring a bit , as the taste each year something to look forward to... awesome
  3. Mother is 102, is afflicted with dementia, but has a great deal still of lucid moments. Her physicality is still excellent , she a working farm lady who never drank or smoked , like many anonymous people simple has lived her life doing the best she could, I marvel looking over the dinner table at her and the privilege of being able to have access to over a century of experience. This to me is awesome. of note Ottawa beats Galt Ontario 7-3 in Stanley Cup... on March 13, 1911
  4. Because of street lights ect in cities the northern lights not as likely to be as visible Living on a farm where it is dark have seen them a number of times there are sites devoted to this which will give you dates and times in your area as to when it be possible to view them one recommendation given always is to view in the darkest area possible
  5. took a few photo's of people shoveling a hockey rink, skating patch on Avon River in Stratford today, snow falling down. I just awesomely beautiful. It cool to watch older folks creep down to river, those who have not skated in years, giving it a go. Moms and Dads, taking children out regaled in Christmas hockey gear and skates. Such is some of the most precious memories of life. Our school in Millbank, is a self sustained Mennonite school, we have built it and pay for it in all ways. The field that surrounds school serves as ball field in season, the boards are put up for rink to be flooded. As a group of people I believe we have a wonderful time each year skating and playing hockey, everyone included, young , old, men , women, boys, girls. The beaming looks of those participating is awesome , is special
  6. skating / playing hockey outdoors, fifteen -twenty per side, men, women , boys, and girls until it get so cold have to take refuge in the hothouse and stand by potbellied wood burning stove with a cup of steaming hot chocolate cupped in hands to warm them. its great..
  7. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=440282#YourCallTop U.S GM Poile apologizes to Ryan....
  8. comment regarding Kessel, as young player in league a guy with much talent that was not a team guy not coach able to conflicted with his own notions as to who and what he should be, traded to Leafs his is slowing growing into a more team oriented player with very high skills, at this time he certainly a guy any team would want as a core guy. He is growing and submit will show this as member of U.S Olympic team. If he be capable of being great or just good player open to debate , but he with better team oriented mindset a guy most teams would envy to have on roster. imo
  9. no doubt it preferable to have a great quarterback, Manning has shown that in Denver, who is to argue had he been a Bill , Bills a playoff team. But in the reality of todays NFL the crap shoot is to choose which you are great at defense, average at offense, or middling at both, teams that have won over the past few years excell at one either defense or offense, more often than not it the defense that makes the offense good, not the offense that makes the defense. Bills at this time to have the nucleus of a good defense with some tweeks good be very good if not great , my opinion is this the road to success at this time. To long we look for another Jim Kelly, lets not miss a Bruce Smith in a futile search to another Kelly . imo
  10. keep building and strengthening the strength, if all others wanting to be build on offense , all the better for Bills thdir pick at nine is a premium defensive pick. Can't be everything, if the future for a winning Bills team be it a defensive one so be it. Clearly the sexy is a great quarterback and great offense, but over the years success more often build by strong and great defense. imo
  11. homemade bread and cinnamon butter and because it the Christmas season Heiniken tall boys instead of Canadian.
  12. was at the crossroads, a few farmers sausage, a couple nice slices of roast beef, sour ######. horseradish, a few big spoons of stuffing, some white turkey meat, a nice big helping of mashed potatoes, a few pieces of marble rye bread, slathered with garlic spread, grabbed some baby corn, pickles. a few nice big chicken legs. Went back and got some apple pan dowdy with heated caramel sauce, few scoops of ice, cream , some darda, pieces of rhubarb pie, mud pie, a few brownie squares, .... and case of beer... as evening was so stressful
  13. Watching Leafs -Hawks snuck into kitchen cut a few big chunks o tonight's roast beef , cut off hunk of cheddar 4 slices of bread ladies just made in barn watching eating a few great sandwiches and a few Milano Canadians Holy Milano Canadians what are those eh "Molson canadian tall boys "
  14. no doubt many out of patience years ago, do think though the bar has to be raised next season, it cannot be just another losing year, rebuilding , youth gaining experience ect. Having said that , it is not like I will not follow the team win or lose, but the passion , excitement for the team does turn into apathy, me choosing to do other things. Imagine there are many more who do the same these days.
  15. home made bread and butter, with old cheddar from the cheese factory , toasted and melted, with some sliced dill pickles and a Molson Canadian Tall Boy... this in barn office this being only place to watch football game as ladies have wrested control of house tv....
  16. this team in spite of their record had been in every game this season and got to think last weeks lost was extremely deflating. Personally had not great illusions for greatest from this team but as disappointing as many of the close loses have been that they were competitive with a rookie quarterback, then with backups at best when he was injured. A first year coach, a first year young quarterback, who as mentioned lost valuable time due to injury. This team is not a bad one, this a different Bills, who true enough will end with same result this season, but the Bills will be a playoff contending team much sooner than naysayers believe. It is hard as heck, given the years of waiting, for many it has turned to apathy, resignation they will never succeed, but better days are as close as next year... :)
  17. this is only end of November a long way to go this season before declaring anything. Best to take the win and be humble else karma has a way of biting you
  18. Sportsnet saying Crosby contract will be $104 million over 12 years......cannot be announced until July 1
  19. I follow the Toronto Blue Jays... Last week on three consecutive days three of their top starters went down to injury, one will not be able to return to late August/September at best, the other two will have Tommy John surgery and will be lost until 2014, and at that who to say potential their career holds for them. Year began with such optimism of finally being able to at least compete, no matter how they wish to put the best face on it, this year in terms of competing a tall order to start with is now not a reality, season in terms of competing over and it is only mid June. Good God root for Leafs, Sabres , Bills, even just getting my pants on in the morning and they get caught at times, can anybody win around here.... in some century.... lifetime (noted above post, the trials of following sports teams pale by comparison, most sincerely wish a solution best for all can be the ultimate resolution as all involved work through this in what would have to be painful process. )
  20. i am old and takes longer to shoot, would likely get muscled out by big defense or penalty for delay of game. two minutes shooting out of play.... :bag:
  21. speaking of awesome things... How awesome it would be to be a young man\lady and tomorrow night being standing on the stage putting on a NHL team sweater realizing a life dream for many.... can conceive of just how great that must feel. This along with driving into the park lot of this team, walking through the front doors, into the dressing room, getting your stall, skating on the ice for first practice , then making team and the buzz of skating on ice first game as NHL player. This would be awesome
