  1. In my experience, the specific term at issue is still pretty commonplace, yes. I have coached middle school rec teams since 2012 — the term has continued to crop up in various settings.
  2. Fair enough. I'd actually thought they were some sort of nonprofit venture -- not a silo of SB Nation. Even so - it's a cause nobler than most sites looking for clicks. I can see your point. I was unaware that this was a pattern in which they've engaged. It's too bad if they're going about a laudable objective in a bad way. Even at that, though, I thought they were pretty careful about saying it wasn't about Eichel, then or now. That it was about the culture in which those kinds of terms are still commonplace, which seemed fair to me.
  3. He's coming on, I tell ya. Where's that thread where he was chirped for being a poor man's Thomas Vanek?
  4. I agree that he is really struggling. But, as others have stated, I just don't care. The sound of that voice can so easily evoke memories of staying up late in bed, with my wood-paneled clock radio playing the game, listening to a late game out west, hearing that a LES storm was coming in, feeling assured that there'd be a snow day tomorrow.
  5. I read it closely for the first several paragraphs. Then glossed it. My sense is that Out Sports wants to use this as an opportunity to improve the lives and experiences of LGBT athletes. What did you find objectionable about it such that you think Eichel should tell them to go pound sand?
  6. well, the guy can hit it hard - that much we knew. terrible goal to give up, though, absent a deflection.
  7. Was Risto's shot deflected by their d-man? I didn't see a good replay of it, and am not gonna go search now.
  8. It was one of the most fun games in recent memory, and certainly among the more meaningful games the team's had in an age. I was grinding on my stationary bike this morning, reading through pages of a wide variety of fun-embracing posts. And then I read your post, and it popped as unduly negative. Looking at it again, I can see some of the context to which you're pointing. But, even so. C'mon, man. In a sure marker of how casual my NHL fandom is (or has become during the Sabres woes): I was wholly unprepared for Carey Price being not good.
  9. Bad take. Worse one.
  10. Takes me back to around when I joined. And even at that: It would’ve been post black Sunday. (Edit: I actually joined post 2006 season. Huh.) My guess was that it had something to do with Fortnite. That’s usually my guess when a young person does something I don’t understand. But I was very happy to see this. Risto:Selanne::Michael Thomas:Joe Horn. I guess I’d still pine for Adam Oates+. And I think that’ll happen. Rodrigues isn’t a fast player and Risto was merely trying to dump it in. Dude. Maybe make that next workout a tough one. You got something that needs exorcising.
  11. I reckon lotsa agents provide PR services.
  12. The counterclaim would be significant. Guy hasn’t done much tonight.
  13. Fun game. But it’s hard to contemplate getting 4 past Price and not taking 2 regulation points.
  14. Not to worry. I’ll mail you your L.
  15. ^ was unaware of this scene. thanks for it.
  16. ftfy nor did my wife's super charming, even courtly, grandmother intend to demean people with african ancestry when she referred to brazil nuts as "ni**er toes." truly! she didn't. she would use that phrase with a clear mind and a pure heart. i first heard it at thanksgiving. "pass me a few of those ni**er toes and the nut cracker, wouldya? oh, they're just delicious."
  17. And if I may: The Tweet isn't controversial. Like, it would have been controversial if, say, Eichel at age 14 had Tweeted "yo, obama's record with drone killings is worse than bush the second!!!" This Tweet was -- what? I'll go with bigoted.
  18. It's a subject worthy of conversation. And it's a banner idea to eliminate the use of hurtful, hateful slurs. As far as Eichel goes, though, I see it pretty much as a non-story. It also amazes me that wealthy athletes don't all have PR flacks who sanitize their social media histories.
  19. So what's the deal with Olofsson? (Hurt?)
  20. It's true!
