  1. Yeah - they’ll have clunkers. But, on balance - they’re looking like they could be special.
  2. If he's healthy (if) and if the terms don't hurt the team beyond this year, then getting ODB at OBD is a no-brainer. Setting aside what his production might be -- just having him on the field would further open things up for Diggs, Davis, Knox, and so on.
  3. 4.43 is what i read for shakir. certainly not slow, but not a burner either by nfl skill position standards. yet again otoh, it's not as though being a pure burner is crucial to being an excellent kick returner -- much better to have someone who, before they're a burner, is sure handed, has great vision, and is fearless. being adequately fast, along with those other 3 elements, is more than fine.
  4. His personality is off the charts, man. I'm not sure how else to say it.
  5. Let’s go, Buffalo! Does Chad Rhuwedel (sp) still play for the Penguins?
  6. Marlowe?! MARLOWE! I like that trade a lot. Hopefully he's got some gas left in the tank and wear left on his tread.
  7. This is, of course, the correct take. I was mostly clowning around upthread. OTOH, there's no disputing that STL hit an out of the park home run with that trade. That ball is still in flight. The Sabres and Thompson are a great story all on their own - one that is still being written. I have no need to go back and revisit the trade.
  8. Ha. Yeah. The need for the dog whistle is fading -- what with mainstream people saying the quiet parts out loud so much nowadays
  9. "Thugs" is a dog whistle. If you didn't know that before now - now you know.
  10. Nyheim Hines. Huh. The Bills have been after a veteran pass catching back for a while (which search seemed to end with the selection of James Cook). Pat McAfee *loves* it for the Bills.
  11. With the Poyer situation looming, safety would be an area to address. Other than that, o-line for sure.
  12. The hints were very necessary to get the last 2. The Jim Lorentz one is a real outlier. There's gotta be footage of him out there talking about it. I would have been hard-pressed to remember that the 5th player to notch 6 points in a game even played for the Sabres (or was a big deal in the NHL - I was a kid at the time and didn't follow NHL stuff super closely).
  13. I'll admit to not recognizing the first name. Cyr's not a bad guess, actually. Didn't he have a 4-goal game once?
  14. That's 3 of the 5. Good stuff. The other 2 surprised me. I would never have guessed them. Anyone guessing them correctly without help would need a very specific memory of having seen it happen or having previously read/heard about it having happened.
  15. I just overheard this at the coffee machine, and it's a fun bit of trivia. Maybe I can even get @PASabreFan to play. Thompson's 6-point game is one of - what is now - ten such games in franchise history. (The record is a 7-point game - done once.) WITHOUT LOOKING IT UP, can you name the other five players (excluding Thompson) who've had a 6-point game as a Sabre? (Including the 7-point game would not change the number of players to be identified in response to the question.)
  16. This take ignores what schemes the Bills were using and what techniques the front 4 were using once the ball was snapped. The Bills wanted the Packers to run the ball. I'm sure there are some things they want to clean up, but I don't think it's fair to say that the Bills D-line got bullied. I certainly don't think that Aaron Jones thinks that.
  17. Riffing off the thread title: The story appears to be that Thompson is a legitimate top-6 NHL centre. With a reasonable contract.
  18. It's a plausible theory. The point Weave raises below is also fair. There's also the possibility that Green Bay made adjustments at half time. Because, at the half and especially after the Bills surgically got a bonus 3 points right before the half (preceded by a throwaway that almost turned into a TD to Davis), I figured the Bills were gonna hang 40 on them. The one where he went out at the 1? That was scary.
  19. I don’t get the concern with Green Bay’s running numbers. On or around that GB drive where they made it 27-17 (might have been the one where they got stopped on 4th and 1), my son turned to me (we attended) and said “they’re basically running the clock out on themselves.” The corners - especially Taron - need to be stout tacklers in this scheme. @Doohickiemakes a valid point. There was a colour commentator for an away game (Rams? Collinsworth?) who made an ominous observation about how the opponent was running at Taron’s side. And it seemed to be an issue. Until it wasn’t. Had Allen taken better care of the ball last night, the game wouldn’t have been as close as it seemed. You have to pick your poison in this league. The Bills make a defensible choice in term of which poison they pick.
  20. Big Phil is a problem.
