Agreed. Some GM probably wants to see him at the NHL level and Murray feels a trade is likely enough that he called him up. That said, I expect him to get a regular shift with some top players and power play time.

They promoted their AHL affiliate HC, Todd Nelson, however the GM MacTavish will be behind the bench for a few weeks to help "transition" Todd Nelson into the role. Strange if you ask me... stinks like a rusty old tank.

Myers, Stewart, Hodgson and a 1st? I'd pull the trigger, but they'd probably also ask for one of Girgensons, Zadorov or Ristolainen.

Disagree about Carolina. I expect Edmonton and Arizona to be there at the end (along w/ Buffalo) but Carolina will be well out of the basement. They have the 10th best CorsiFor% in the league, and have just been incredibly unlucky through the first third of the season (3-12 or so in one goal games). Cam Ward is heating up and they'll be getting Jordan Staal back next month. They could make a run for a playoff spot. -

Still not worried btw. In 36 hours they'll be back within striking distance of EDM.. Who just fired their head coach.

I'm 100% pro-tank. Buffalo is now 9-6 in 1 goal games. All but 2 of all their wins have been by 1 goal. EDM is 4-12 in 1 goal games, and CAR is 3-12. A bounce here, a bounce there, and Buffalo is atop the CHL. Things will even out as we move along. That said, I expect a 3-way fight between BUF, EDM, and ARI for the Shart. Both EDM and ARI have more talent and better Corsi%'s but they struggle to score goals. The difference right now is goaltending. If their GM's decide to go all in on the tank, then BUF could be in trouble.

Does anyone really expect Enorth to maintain his .936 SV% (at even strength) for the entire season? Hasek's career SV% is .922. Anybody watch the end of the Cane's game last night vs TB? They lost 2-1 with TB "scoring" the winning goal in the final 30s. Both TB's goals were handed to them by the hockey gods.... first on a dump in that took a bad hop off the glass, the second an own goal off the d-man's skate. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/?id=2014020426-444-h http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/?id=2014020426-575-h They outshot TB 30-27 and have now lost 7 of their last 10 games by 1 goal.... amazing. Their CorsiFor% is 10th best in the league. With the way Ward played last night, I expect them to go on a run here soon.

Good point. If Enroth can play like he has over the past month for the next 6-7 years, then you have to keep him.... he's putting up Hasek like numbers.... but can he sustain that level of play? As a Sabres fan, I would like to think that, but is it realistic? Watching him play, it just seems like a lot of pucks are just hitting him, perhaps that's a product of being in good position, or luck, or a little of both. I remember in one of the recent games, there were something like 4 or 5 shots that rang off the post/bar against him. Don't get me wrong, he's in the zone right now, but I certainly don't expect him to continue he recent level of play... and I don't think he's the long term solution in net.

Enroth is playing out of his mind, eventually he'll cool off and things will get back to normal. However, if I'm Murray, I'm all over the phones trying to move him (he's a pending UFA) while his stock is high. It looks like an obvious tank move, but in reality he's stated that he likes bigger goalies and he's an UFA at the end of the season, so it makes sense to move him in his contract year while he's hot.

The frustrating thing is Buffalo is playing worse than EDM and CAR, yet those two teams keep finding ways to win... If you look at the stats, Buffalo is far and away the worst (best CHL) team in the league. http://www.puckalyti.../teamstats.html CAR has the 6th best Corsi% in the entire league, EDM 16th. Both teams are, on average, outshooting their opponents. BUF is dead last, 8 percentage points worse than the next worse team. Getting outshot almost 2-1 on a nightly basis. In games decided by 1 goal, BUF is 8-6, CAR is 3-11, and EDM is 3-10. Jhonas Enroth is single handedly driving the tank off the road. His stock is as high as it will every be and he's a pending UFA. He needs to go sooner than later.

Sabres getting thoroughly dominated in shots/Corsi yet still finding a way to lose by one goal... EDM and CAR out shooting their opponents on a regular basis yet finding ways to get one goal wins. Things have to start evening out... Right? Right!?

PHI @ CBJ tonight, hoping for a 1 point game. other CHL matchups include EDM @ SJ and NSH @ COL. An EDM loss or tie combined with a BUF win, would put BUF back atop the CHL.

You are correct. Sabres goaltending is coming back down to earth as I predicted a couple losses in a row and everybody is back on the tankwagon.

I still think the Sabres are worse than the Oilers. The Oilers are not playing that bad, I would argue the Sabres are playing worse. EDM's Corsi (50.6%) ranks 18th, Buffalo is deal last (37.1%)..... 7 percentage points worse than the next worst team (CAL). 5 on 5, the OIlers are standing toe to toe with their opponents. Their problem right now is goaltending.... Scrivens with his 0.888 sv% is killing them. His career sv% is 0.911 (0.916 last season). Once he gets back on track, the Oilers will start winning games and I expect them to quickly drop down the CHL standings when that happens. Buffalo, on the other hand, has been winning due to a hot goaltender... as in white hot. Once Enroth comes back down to earth, the Sabres will start aggressively climbing the CHL standings. During any other NHL season I would expect them to have the Shart wrapped up by mid-Feb, but this is not a typical NHL season. The CHL crown will come down to the wire...... BUF plays both CAR and CBJ during the last week of the season. EDM has a 6 game homestand to finish out the month of March against the likes of CBJ, PHI, and COL... with 3 of their last 4 on home ice to close out the season.

The Oilers are actually not playing that bad, 7 one goal loses on their current 11 game winless streak. However, they could use a goaltender and stud D-man, but they are playing hard on a consistent basis... defintely not tanking on purpose. Watched their game last night, they had a couple glorious chances to put the game away in regulation... Nugent-Hopkins hits a post, and Eberle gets robbed. On the Jet's tying goal, I would argue that Scrivens was out of position. So yeah, they need a goalie and a D-man, and they'll be much better.

I'll say it again, hockey is a streaky sport. Teams ride a hot goalie for a few wins and then they cool off... I'm not the least bit concerned. Buffalo is still far and away the worst team in the league and by the end of the season the standings will reflect that. EDM and COL win 2 in a row, and Buffalo loses 2 in a row, suddenly they're back on track. Unbelievable that so many are suddenly jumping off the tank wagon.

The tank is stil moving forward folks. Hockey is a streaky sport. A fee wins in a row can just as easily be followed by a 10 game winless streak... Especially if you're consistently getting outshot and have by far the leagues worst corsi percentage. Worst case scenario is they are somewhere in the bottom 5 come the trade deadline then sink like a rock after Stewart, Stafford, Enroth and Gorges are launched.

Buffalo is due to go on a tear. Team corsi %'s for EDM, CBS, and CAR are much worse than you would think by looking at the standings. I expect those 3 teams to drop in the standings over the next 4-6 weeks, with COL and ARI climbing their way up.

Still the worst team in the league. They continue to get out shot by a wide margin on a nightly basis. Hot goaltending and a few fortunate bounces won them a couple games here. It won't continue.
