    This year the predominant strain in circulation was a H3N2, and yes the vaccine was not a good antigenic match. Still, although the vaccine was less effective at preventing infection as in previous years, having received the vaccine will diminish the duration and severity of symptoms. The CDC and doctors I feel do a poor job of delivering this message.

    I already have a bet they will be bottom 10 next year no matter who they get, but I wouldn't bet on them being bottom 2 without McEichel for two reasons: 1.) They won't be trying to finish DFL from game 1 next year. 2.) We are seeing right now how hard it is to be last / 2nd last even when you're trying to.

    There undoubtedly will be, and they're wrong too. When I read your post I took it to mean you too think that its always been about McEichel or bust even though I know you don't agree with the concept.

    It never has been about a single player and we are assembling a cast whether we win the shart or not. The worry of injury, which can happen to any player(s) who are key to our rebuild at any time is therefore not a good reason to forgo a tank.

    This is the CHL thread so I'll lay it out why you're wrong, again. Of course the goal this season is to finish DFL/McEichel. So what? The goal for every other season was a Stanley Cup and nobody ever promised us that either. In other words 2006 was a huge disappointment, but it can hardly be characterized as a complete failure or waste of a season. A true and complete failure when setting out to tank would be ending up with the tenth pick with a team that had zero chance of going to the playoffs regardless. You know like the movie we've seen all too often already as Sabres fans. We may not end up adding a generational talent in the draft this year, which would be disappointing, but we are in position to add another elite talent to the one we acquired last year due to tanking.

    I still refuse to take a pessimistic stance in this thread...so here's some glass half full thoughts for today.. As of today for all intents and purposes the Sabres are one of only three teams left with a real shot at the shart. 27 other teams eliminated from the McEichel derby. 12 games left and in the lead, I'll take it. If the Sabres end up picking third, they will have the opportunity to grab two of the top four offensive prospects from the last two drafts if they so choose. Hardly the end of the world.

    Equivalent low is no goal or 2006 ECF, akin to a punch to the gut or kick to the nads. Anyone who gets too engrossed in a tank season, from either side of the argument, probably also would enjoy any of the plethora of slow torture techniques used throughout human history.
