GDT: Rd.2 AHL best-of-5 playoffs: Amerks (2&0) @ Crunch, Gm3 5/1 7pm

I didn't realize they scratched Brannstrom. Wild to be scratching an NHL caliber player in the AHL... but I suppose I can't argue with the results -

really enjoyed the game on Sunday. it wasn't a full house. there was a crowd there, but maybe 2/3 capacity? those that did go definitely got treated to a pretty good game (if you're rooting for the amerks). summary of what i saw: the amerks came out buzzing at the start. initially, they were all over the crunch. the first goal (helenius) was partially a result of luck. the puck was knocked up into the air and landed right in front of helenius, who happened to be in front of the net. two things lead to this goal imo: they were initially controlling play and helenius went to the goal. good things happen when you go to the goal! after the goal was scored, the team seemed to settle down and the crunch started controlling the flow of play more. with that being said, the crunch didn't really threaten levi much despite the number of shots they took. the amount of high danger chances was pretty minimal. the crunch were controlling the flow of the game until the komarov fight. even though komarov got caved in, the fight did two things imo. he stopped the crunch's momentum and gave the amerks motivation (i forget who, but i saw an interview on twitter/x that said that they had to do it for komarov). was great timing for the fight (if the timing was intentional, good on him). honestly, i'm not sure if they win this without the fight. komarov definitely held his own, but i think he got too aggressive and left the other guy an opening. all it takes is one bad one getting through. hopefully this doesn't discourage him from fighting in the future. it got really chippy really quickly after that. the refs quickly called another penalty to try to retake control of the game, putting the amerks on the powerplay and kulich cashed it in. they needed that goal really badly and it set them up to win nicely. clague had a really nice day. great shot for the third goal and i think he assisted on one of the earlier goals too. on the empty net goal, it looked like it was going to be icing. i think the ref was about to blow it dead and then saw rosen flying down there. he can really fly. he beat the crunch player to puck cleanly and scored from a funny angle. as far as empty netters go, seemed like a pretty good one. after the eng and the amerks up 4-0, you could just feel the crunch were going to try to pull something. things got physical. my favorite was actually helenius in this situation. even after the game ended, he was surrounded by crunch players and was still barking at them with his helmet off. he's got some spunk for sure All in all, it was nice to see some playoff hockey. It really is just a different beast relative to the regular season. I never was able to experience a live Sabres playoff game when I was younger, so here's hoping that this happens in Buffalo soon -

nice win, keep it rolling. i'm headed to the game on sunday -
talk about being set up to fail. my inner pessimist is wondering if this is guelli putting someone (besides himself) in charge of the sabres sales so that he doesn't have to take full responsibility for the upcoming bloodbath link describing the hire from nhl.com: https://www.nhl.com/sabres/news/buffalo-sabres-name-jake-vernon-chief-commercial-officer

Ruff and Adams end-of-season press conference: Saturday, April 19, 4:30pm
Ctaeth replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
It's going to happen. Some reporter, probably Harrington as mentioned above, will ask those questions because they want to seem like the guy that "asks the hard questions" and is someone that can stick it to an ineffective management group. If they don't, fans will likely take the media to task and that's the last thing the BN wants right now. I agree that the reporter will primarily do it so he "can feel good about himself". It's self-serving when everyone and their mother knows KA is in over his head. However, there are reasons beyond the reporter's own ego. Public embarrassment could be a strong motivating factor for making a change. -

Adams is going to get hammered by the press & rightfully so. Get your popcorn ready! -
Sabres assign Goaltender Scott Ratzlaff to Rochester
Ctaeth replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Can Ratzlaff play in one of the Amerks remaining two regular season games? If they are already locked into the two seed, why not? -
Pretty interesting that he starts fighting as soon as he leaves Buffalo. I wonder what's the reasoning behind that. Was he coached not to? Was it his choice not to in Buffalo? Was he told by TB that he had to occasionally fight? Was it his decision to start fighting when he changed teams?

I would love to see Columbus make it in and Montreal miss! Need a Montreal regulation loss and a Columbus win Hurricanes vs Canadiens today Blue jackets vs Islanders Thursday

Same, and i think everyone is sick of it. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. The more you talk about why it's hard to get people to move to buffalo... the less they are going to want to come here. Focus on the positives instead of the negatives.

GDT- Buffalo Sabres @ Florida Panthers - Saturday 4/12- 6 PM ESPN+ and MSG
Ctaeth replied to HOUSE's topic in The Aud Club
I'm not a betting man, but if I was this one would probably be a Sabres bet. Florida is still favored here despite Bob/Tkachuk/Reinhart all not playing. Vanacek is 4-13 this year (in total). And, as we know, the Sabres are still trying to win. -

Could, Should, Will James Reimer Be Re-Signed For Next Year?

GDT: Carolina Hurricanes @ Buffalo Sabres 7pm Tues 4/8 ESPN+

The reason I ask is because I don't think they've won a game where he's been missing yet this year. Like 0 for 10 ish -

The most surprising thing is Krebs imo. Without Dahlin, would the Sabres be the worst team in the league? -
My understanding from following along with Kris Baker's tweets was Ratzlaff was seeing 40+ shots every game of the series. He was likely the only reason that they won any games.

Sabres recall Östlund from Rochester, April 4, 2025
Ctaeth replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
It wont matter for the Sabres this year, but it will matter for the player. They get a taste of action in the big leagues, get a nice pay check, are rewarded for their good year, and hopefully further motivated to make it full time. It's an early vote of confidence from the organization and a reward for their play -
Will Devon Levi Help Make This Team Better Next Year?
Ctaeth replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
Hes had 2 straight years of being a top 5 ahl goalie. I suspect he is a candidate for player of the year in the ahl. He leads the league in shutouts. The team is dominating with him in goal. Hes letting in like 2 per game. There's nothing left to prove at the ahl level. The only question left is how to integrate him -
Will Devon Levi Help Make This Team Better Next Year?
Ctaeth replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
At this point, he's proven it in the AHL and deserves a real shot next year. How the Sabres end up incorporating him into their plans though is the tough part: Does he start the year in the AHL and then is given a shot in the event of injury? Does he start off as the backup? Is he given a real chance to compete for the #1 spot in camp? I feel like all of these are definite possibilities and it really depends on how well the AHL has prepared him for this -
Feels relevant to bring up Quinn right now in the middle of his hot streak. 8 points in last 4 games. Maybe a glimmer of hope? The real reason I wanted to revive this thread was two fold: 1) Apparently Lance talked to Quinn at some point. The linked article (https://buffalonews.com/sports/professional/nhl/sabres/article_c728a2c0-c308-44cd-a221-49a5abe699d0.html) has a few quotes from Quinn with commentary from Lance. Obviously there's a paywall with the BN so I'm not going to post the whole thing, but here's a few snippets: So, in other words, the injury did affect him this season because it didn't allow him to train like he normally would and thus he was slower. The other thing relevant to Quinn is coming late to the morning meeting and getting benched because of it. It sounds like he was pretty embarassed about it. since missing that meeting and being scratched as a result, he's +5 with 8 points in 5 games. maybe jack's motivation for this recent spurt of good play is tied to him being embarrassed about the missing the meeting? 2) the infamous blue and gold insights regarding conditionining: https://x.com/TheSabreReport/status/1905042868437213435 Ruff blames the Sabres issues partially on conditioning coming into the year. Based on the above, seems likely Quinn is at the very least partially the reason behind this Let's hope our boy is on track. Based on Ruff's quotes from Blue and Gold insights, it seems likely that both him and Quinn will be back next year.
