The players that players that could get the sabres back to the playoffs are players that are high variance types. The type that you honestly dont know what you're going to get season to season. To me, the three that could massively out perform expectations are quinn, upl, and norris (for injury reason). You get a good to great season from any or all of these guys... we should be talking about playoffs. Honorable mention to doan and levi

Trades are fun and the nhl can always use more fun. Get rid of the nmc & increase parity

I don't think it's hope in this case. I'd classify it as "expectation", not hope. In the case of older players repeating career years, yeah that's hope. You hope they can reach that level again. But for younger players, it's just expectation and the reality of how players progress. They usually don't peak with less than two seasons total played. I don't take issue with Adams expecting ("hoping") that these young players will improve.... because they should improve. You expect them to; they don't come in as a finished product. Where I do take issues with Adams and his attitude towards the younger players is him continuing to have such a large young core AND not sufficiently supplementing it with enough of the right veterans to show the kids how it's done. It's semantics, but I think it's an important distinction to make. Also, I'd prefer to never be put in a position of defending KA ever again 🤢

Tischke previously played for the amerks and was playing for the icemen last year. I would be surprised if he didnt play a handful with the amerks next year
-
underrated, for sure. he's got all the tools. fast, good shot, decent passer, alright on the powerplay. if i remember correctly, i think the amerks were even using him on the penalty kill as well. played well in the playoffs and seems to do pretty good when it matters the most. he's had a lot of game winning goals over the last 2 years. bunch of injury prone forwards, maybe he gets a real shot this year? him and/or Östlund will definitely be the first forward call ups

A lot of ranger fans seemed to like the guy 🤷♂️

Couple of the defenders i could see with the Sabres. Johnson, Novikov, and potentially Metsa. However, the glut of last pairing defenseman the sabres have will probably prevent any of them from getting a real look this year. As far as the forwards go, I dont think anyone is ready to be promoted (aside from occasional injury callups). Closest are rosen and Östlund. Edit: forgot kozak. Hes ready for a full time 4th line spot probably Goalie... levi

The offseason so far - Are the Sabres better?
Ctaeth replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Imo, they are marginally better after these moves. The big areas of improvement are coming from lyon and kesselring. Barring massive injury issues in our forwards, I think the scoring won't fall off precipitously. While defense and goaltending are improved with lyon and kesselring (with or without a bridge deal for byram). Even though they appear marginally improved on paper, it may be a paper tiger. The possibility of it blowing up in their face with a bunch of injury issues in the forward group though seems pretty high. Bunch of guys in our group that miss half the season yearly. Here's hoping those guys are all past it -
looks like a left handed puck mover/third pairing guy? the kevyn adams specialty

Sabres sign UFA Goaltender Alex Lyon to 2 year 1.5 million dollar contract
Ctaeth replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Glad to see it. Entering next year with just Levi and upl would have been a major mistake -
Radim Mrtka, 6'6" RHD drafted 9th overall by Sabres
Ctaeth replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Sign me up for that -
Who goes out for the season first? Quinn, Norris, Greenway, or Sammie?

Kesselring feels like the type of player that people have been clamoring for. He fills a need for the Sabres. It's likely his worth to the Sabres specifically is greater than JJ's to the Sabres. However, I still feel like this return is underwhelming unless Doan ends up sticking and not just being a fourth line plug

Chad D: expect a Byram trade at or around the draft
Ctaeth replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Im not going to overreact to this one until exact details of a trade become available. Byram for a late first is a bad trade. Hopefully they would be getting more for him than that -
I agree, I think they should trade Peterka. Given his ability on the powerplay is not great and his defense is also not great... I agree with @dudacek that there is a certain jeff skinner ish element to his game. Trading him now might be the best thing for both the team and player. If he goes somewhere with a coach that can get him to buy in on defense, he stands to improve a lot and make the sabres look silly. However, if he stays in buffalo and it is more of the same (likely with no change of coach), I'm not sure that's a player that you want to hitch yourself to long term with a massive contract. You should be getting a really good return for Peterka, so look for a trade that can either substantially improve our defense, our goalie situation, and/or our powerplay. If you can fix at least one of those things immediately with this trade, it should be a no brainer

Sabres announce Jarmo Kekalainen Hired as Senior Advisor
Ctaeth replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
not in love with the fact that he is reporting to KA instead of TP. but nevertheless happy they found someone willing to do all the thinking for KA -
Amerks had a good year. I know thats not what people want to hear because they have their issues with the Sabres. But that was a successful season I do have one thing to say regarding the playoffs though. The Noah Östlund disappearing act in the playoffs hurt them bad. After that first stretch where he was figuring out the north American game, he was roughly a point per game player. They needed this guy to show up and he didn't. I know he had less opportunities bc of kulich, but you have to do more than 2 assists in 8ish games

He would be a great fit on the Sabres. We have a lot of shooters and someone that can create some space would help support those guys. And he is great defensively. It just feels like a pipe dream. Hope they still try to get him though
